In Greek mythology, Leto is a daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe and the sister of Asteria. The island of Kos is claimed as her birthplace. In the Olympian scheme, Zeus is the father of her twins, Apollo and Artemis, the Letoides, which Leto conceived after her hidden beauty accidentally, caught the eyes of Zeus. Classical Greek myths record little about Leto other than her pregnancy and her search for a place where she could give birth to Apollo and Artemis, since Hera in her jealousy had caused all lands to shun her.




Aurora, the goddess of dawn in Roman mythology and Eos in Greek mythology. Eos is the goddess of dawn and had a sister and a brother. Selene, goddess of the moon, and Helios, god of the sun. Eos is the daughter of Hyperion and Theia and sister of Helios the sun and Selene the moon. The generation of Titans preceded all the familiar deities of Olympus, who largely supplanted them.




Canis Major, is a constellation in the southern celestial hemisphere. Its name is Latin for "greater dog" in contrast to Canis Minor, the "lesser dog"; both figures are commonly represented as following the constellation of Orion the hunter. Canis Major contains Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, known as the 'dog star'. Orion's current name derives from Greek mythology, in which Orion was a gigantic, supernaturally strong hunter of ancient times, born to Euryale, a nymph, and Poseidon (Neptune), god of the sea in the Greco-Roman tradition. One myth recounts Gaia's rage at Orion, who dared to say that he would kill every animal on the planet. The angry goddess tried to dispatch Orion with a scorpion. This is given as the reason that the constellations of Scorpius and Orion are never in the sky at the same time.




In Greek mythology, Asteria was the daughter of the Titans Coeus and Phoebe and sister of Leto. According to Hesiod, by Perses she had a daughter Hecate. The Titan goddess of nocturnal oracles and falling stars, Asteria flung herself into the Aegean Sea in the form of a quail in order to escape the advances of Zeus. She became the "quail island" of Ortygia which became identified with Delos, which was the only piece of earth to give refuge to the fugitive Leto when, pregnant with Zeus's children, she was pursued by vengeful Hera.




In Norse religion, Asgard is one of the Nine Worlds and home to the Ases tribe of gods. It is surrounded by an incomplete wall attributed to a Hrimthurs riding the stallion Svaoilfari, according to Gylfaginning. Odin and his wife, Frigg, are the rulers of Asgard. One of Asgard's well known locations is Valhalla, in which Odin rules. Yggdrasill, is an immense tree that is central in Norse cosmology, in connection to which the nine worlds exist Asgard, Midgard, Helheim, Niflheim, Muspellheim, Svartalfheim, Alfheim, Vanaheim and Jötunheim.




Lupus is a constellation in the southern sky. Its name is Latin for wolf. In Greek mythology, Lycaon was a king of Arcadia, son of Pelasgus and Meliboea, who in the most popular version of the myth tested Zeus by serving him the roasted flesh of a guest from Epirus in order to see whether Zeus was truly omniscient. In return for these gruesome deeds Zeus transformed Lycaon into the form of a wolf, and killed Lycaon's fifty other sons with lightning bolts; the slaughtered child, Nyctimus, was restored to life.

En la mitología romana su equivalente, como madre de Febo y Diana, es Latona. Con su hermana Asteria, fue venerada como diosa de la noche y alternativamente de la luz del día. Zeus había intentado violar a la hermana de Leto, Asteria, que se había escapado transformándose en codorniz, arrojándose al mar y convirtiéndose en la isla flotante Ortigia




Aurora, un personaje de la mitología romana, equivalente a la griega Eos. En la mitología griega Eos era la diosa titánide de la aurora, que salía de su hogar al borde del océano que rodeaba el mundo para anunciar a su hermano Helios, el Sol. Eos es la hija de Hiperión y Tea (o Palas y Estigia) y hermana de Helios (el Sol) y Selene (la Luna), que brilla sobre todos los que están en la tierra y sobre los inmortales dioses que viven en el ancho cielo, según Hesíodo.




Sirio es el nombre que recibe, en la mitología griega, el perro de presa de Orión, personaje relacionado con la diosa Artemisa. Sirio es llamada Estrella Perro a raíz de la constelación Canis Maior, a la que pertenece. Orión, es una constelación prominente, quizás la más conocida del cielo. Sus estrellas brillantes y visibles desde ambos hemisferios hacen que esta constelación sea reconocida universalmente. Orión fue un gigante que, según algunas versiones, tiene orígenes de los dioses Zeus, Poseidón y Hermes. Orión había violado a Mérope, hija de Enopión, quien por ello, lo dejó ciego. Helios le devolvió la vista y a continuación Orión se convirtió en compañero de caza de Artemisa y Leto. Prometió aniquilar todo animal que hubiera sobre la tierra, por lo que Gea se enfadó e hizo nacer un escorpión enorme que picó a Orión y lo mató.




En la mitología griega, una titánide, hija de Ceo y Febe. Perseguida por Zeus, que intentaba tomarla, se arrojó al mar para escapar de él. Así se convirtió en la isla errante llamada por unos Asteria y por otros Ortigia. Más adelante se le cambió el nombre por el de Delos. En algunas tradiciones se cuenta que Asteria se transformó en codorniz para evitar a Zeus. Ortigia significa isla de las codornices. Algunos autores consideran a Asteria como la madre de Hécate, que sería fruto de su unión con el titán Perses.




En la mitología nórdica, Asgard es el mundo de los Ases, gobernado por Odín y su esposa Frigg y rodeado por una muralla incompleta, atribuida a un anónimo hrimthurs, amo del caballo semental Svaoilfari, de acuerdo a Gylfaginning. Dentro de Asgard, se encuentra el Valhalla. Forma parte de uno de los Nueve Reinos de Yggdrasil, un fresno perenne también llamado el árbol de la vida de la mitología nórdica. De las raíces y ramas del árbol, se mantienen unidos los mundos de Asgard, Midgard, Helheim, Niflheim, Muspellheim, Svartalfheim, Alfheim, Vanaheim y Jötunheim.




Lupus (el Lobo) es una constelación del hemisferio sur ubicada entre las constelaciones de Centaurus y Scorpius. Se encuentra entre las patas del escorpión y casi unida a centauro. Según la mitología griega se trata del rey de Arcadia, Licaón, que fue transformado en lobo como castigo por su extrema crueldad. Fundó la ciudad de Licosura, una de las más antiguas de Grecia, y en ella erigió un altar a Zeus Licio. Pero su apasionada religiosidad le llevó a realizar sacrificios humanos, lo que degeneró su posterior metamorfosis. Llegó al punto de sacrificar a todos los extranjeros que llegaban a su casa, violando así la sagrada ley de la bendita hospitalidad. Habiéndose enterado de tal aberración, Zeus se hizo pasar por un peregrino y se hospedó en el palacio de Licaón. Esté se preparó para matar al peregrino, pero, alertado por algunas señales divinas, quiso asegurarse antes de que no era un dios, como afirmaban los temerosos súbditos. Para ello hizo cocinar la carne de una de sus víctimas o de un esclavo, y se lo sirvió a Zeus. Éste montó en cólera y transformó a Licaón en lobo, e incendió después el palacio que había sido testigo de tanta crueldad.
