What step are you on Gnilraps?

I stopped buying packs, but I am self-sufficient anyway so I can buy them whenever it suits my needs. I do that sometimes.

You need roughly around 30 days to break from a habit (pretty much same amount you need to be hooked) , so better have very little gaps between steps.

Also it may help to substitute your dopamin gain from eRep ( if any , I have great respect for people managing to enjoy playing eRep ) with something not plain stupid ( emotional eating, increased sugar consumption, another ridiculous game, smoking, sedatives etc )

After seven years I've gone through a multitude of STEP programs. Still here. Still clicking. No parole.

I unplugged years ago. I just do my W-T-F (Work, Train, Fights) everyday, maybe check out an article or two if I happen to be waiting for a battle to end.

Does buying packs with cc (vs my RL money) count for step 1?

If so been on step 2 for a few months now.

What if my addition is only when I am on the game does that matter? I mean come on, I go to work, I go to the gym, I do things around the house, I entertain at the house, can not leave because then I would not have a computer to check in and see if I need to click something. I do not use my smart phone with unlimited data come on I got pride (shows I am not that addictive) I only use the computer. I use a budget to only spend so much per day I mean per month. I am sure I do not need this 12 step program there is no problem in my RL.

At some point my clicks will become so strong that my final click should destroy the game anyway.

I have been stuck on Step 7 for some time. The chief activator of my personal defects is self-activated fear. Fear that I would lose something already possessed or fear that I will lose something I think I have demanded or "deserve". Playing on the basis of unsatisfied demands, I am in a state of continual disturbance and frustration. Therefore it is likely that no peace can be found until I abandon those demands. Abandoning all forms of "Meta" -- not only those I already "dislike", that's easy, but also those I "like" because they are alined to my "desires" -- will likely force a change in attitude, and with humility as a guiding principle, that would allow me to reach out the others....

...but probably just on Facebook, so f*** it... 🙂

I think it took me years to be addicted to this game, and as my activity/interest in other games decreased I slowly made my way into the buying of packs and shit here. Reading this article helped me realize where I am at, and where I once was with the game. Not sure what entertainment value I even get out of things other than my standard need to witness drama, and with as stagnant this game is I don't even know where this game feeds that.

Perhaps I should be done with this place despite my desire to go up the ranking ladder for some unimaginable reason. I think at least some of my fascination is what western culture defers to as ADD, and my lack of interest in my job IRL so I am constantly looking for reasons to be distracted at work. I think ADD personally is a cop out for people who don't want to focus, which I have always been this way.

For now I will stumble into my daily activities in Erep considering why I even bother for the next month or so when my next congress term is up, and my packs expire. But I feel almost compelled to just throw in the towel and completely resist the urge to even sign on anymore despite my small monetary contribution to the game and my "relationships" within the game. There will never be a place for me in this game which will have any significance, and I just can't see what real value I get from this other than appeasing my lack of ability to stay focused on what I should in real life.

Rant mode off, back to real life for now

Walking away and never looking back is the ideal route. Yet addictions rarely operate under ideal conditions.

An alternative option not explored in this well thought out article (great read!) would be poisoning the well. I don't think that has to mean ruining one's political party and MU (few would be heartless enough to shit on all that good work and camaraderie) but it can entail focusing only on what makes you dislike the game so that your attention isn't drawn to what's good about it.

Now, in eCanada taking the poison pill happened quite easily because the community essentially betrayed itself when it pardoned it's biggest thief and political troll, which in turn degraded its meta community (the Constitution and forum process). A great many people were liberated from eRepublik and now there is little reason to get hooked on the game as a spectating former eCanadian. I'm sure there's good stuff/people still left but it's barely discernible beneath all that bitter disappointment.

I'm sure you'll find your point of departure someday, gnilraps.
