To the Brazilian Readers and Editors of the Wiki
Q J Lincoln
Hello to everyone!
I have a question - is there a big difference between Portuguese & Brazilian Portuguese?
You see we have a small discussion in wiki about it, but we would like to hear your opinion also. http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Bar#Portuguese_.26_Brazilian_Portuguese
Thank you for your answers,

Sim, são línguas completamente diferentes.
Yes... but there is ONE version for the game. We are trying to align the wiki to the game. Is the written language similar enough where these articles could be combined to serve all Portuguese speakers?
Sim ... mas há uma versão para The Game. Estamos tentando alinhar o wiki de The Game. É a linguagem escrita suficientemente semelhantes onde estes artigos podem ser combinados para atender todos os falantes de Português?
there is huge diference, the game version isnt very good, and have some expressions that we dont use in Brasil, and some they dont use at portugal. Let us have our own language at least at wikipedia, thank you.
btw: i still prefer using the english version of the game.
Agreed with everything he said...the english version is WAY better.
Our languages are very different, the expressions, some words, lots of things. We can read the portuguese, but is kind of different.
Just the same difference between American Spanish and Spanish of Spain. I think with the same criterion, can separate the african portuguese, brazilian portuguese, and european portuguese, argentinian spanish, paraguayan spanish, uruguayan spanish, european spanish, USA's english, australian english, new zeland english, UK english, etc etc ... not practical.
there are differences in vocabulary, pronunciation and syntax, but in the papers, just equals.
I hope the Brazilians don't hate me 😛, but is the most practical.
Bye.
Yep..
different!
Its different in the papers too... Believe us.
Hi QJ 🙂
Yes, there are some major written differences (use of verbs in continuous form (gerúndio) comes to mind, for instance).
Is there a very big advantage to unifying it in Wiki? Because I guess while both Brazilians and Portuguese can read both types of portuguese, we would have difficult writing.
Frankly, I'm not sure I would correctly write Portugal's portuguese - my text would probably become either artificial or just plain wrong. So the wiki would rapidly become mixed with both types and that would be inconsistent and a little disturbing, in my opinion.

About merging pages in the erepwiki... A brazilian can understand european portuguese without problem and vice-versa, however it's like Assato sai😛 "the wiki would rapidly become mixed with both types and that would be inconsistent and a little disturbing".

About wikipedia (which have only one portuguese version):
"The wikipedia in the Portuguese language, also called the Lusophone Wikipedia, is for all speakers of Portuguese, whatever variant they use. Consequently, change the variant 'A' to 'B' is not welcome, because it means a lack of respect for the former editors."

About the portuguese version of erepublik:
The problem relies on the fact that the admins didn't allow us to have two versions, brazilian and portuguese, so we had to "merge" both languages in a way that both can understand. The result is: some sentences sound awkward for brazilians and some sentences sound awkward for portuguese.
Não são completamente diferentes, mas são diferentes em alguns aspectos.
Um cidadão do Brasil compreende perfeitamente outro cidadão seja de Portugal, Angola ou Moçambique e vice-versa.
