Making the Most of Your Citizen Page

Day 771, 09:28 Published in USA USA by Q J Lincoln

This is the first in a series of articles on how to construct some of the most common pages in the wiki. In this article we will look at the citizen page. Future articles will cover organization, company, newspaper, and party pages.

==What is it?==
A user's citizen page can be accessed by clicking the wiki black book link on his or her citizen page.

The purpose of the citizen page is to provide a narrative of your citizen’s achievements and history in eRepublik. The profile page gives data, it doesn't say where or when you reached certain achievements or what activities you were involved.

==Tips==
1. Read the Citizen Page Tutorial (CPT). This takes you step by step through using the template, and other items. http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/eRepublik:Citizen_Page_Tutorial/English

2. Don’t edit the citizen template. Copy/Paste the template directly from CPT or Template:Citizen http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Template:Citizen . Then enter your information between the = and | on the lines. If a line doesn’t apply, do not remove it. It might apply in the future or you might remove some important coding. Do not add lines to the template, they simply won’t work.

3. Write in the 3rd person. Remember, the wiki is an encyclopedia. Even though you are writing about yourself, you should strive to be neutral and factual. Your citizen page is not a blog or a journal.

4. Use achievement templates dress up the page http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Category:Game_Icons

5. Use standard links, image formats, etc http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Help:Editing

6. Write about the past and the present. Because the wiki is an encyclopedia, citizen pages should have what has been done and what is being done by the citizen. For example “Lisa Simpson is a citizen of Argentina. She is in her third term in Congress.” Both of those sentences are factual and verifiable. "Lisa Simpson wants to combine all of South America into one mega country." Well, that is great... but can we verify this? A statement on wishes or desires must have references to newspaper articles or forum statements.

7. Don’t put information on your citizen page that changes often. For example, your strength, and skills are tracked and updated daily in the game. There is no reason to keep this information in the wiki. If a user wants to know this information, he or she can look at your profile page.

8. Ask for help. Thousands of citizen pages have been created. If you need feedback ask other editors if you have issues with templates or style or ideas for your page. You can talk to other editors on IRC, eRepublik chat, or in the Wiki Bar.

9. Update your page! Did you change rank? Party? Region? Did you win an election? Receive a new achievement? Your citizen page is only as good as you make it. Make a point to check your citizen page at least once a month to keep it updated.

==Not in English?==
There is one common question I get: “I want to create a citizen page, but my English isn’t so good. What do I do?”

The main language of the wiki is English, however, we support over 20 other languages. Below is a scenario of the advice I would give an editor. A citizen from Mexico, “Pancho Villa” wants to create a citizen page in Spanish.

1. Pancho will create a citizen page at “Pancho Villa.” This is ESSENTIAL for proper page linking. He will fill out the citizen template the best that he can.

2. On this page, he will write a simple description about himself “Pancho Villa is a citizen of Mexico. For more information, see his page in Spanish. “

3. He will add the “Language Menu” Template on the English page. See http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Help:Translating_Pages and then save the page

4. He will click the "more languages" link on the language bar and click the the Spanish flag. A new page will appear called Pancho Villa/Español. Here he will create his citizen page in detail in Spanish.

Example Pages:

==Remember==
Your citizen page is what you make it. Follow these guidelines and ask for help when you need it and you will create a great citizen page.
