Patrick Bows Out

Day 758, 08:56 Published in Australia Australia by Patrick Reckitt

Well, I'm off into the great erepublik game in the sky, my Australian friends, and this is my goodbye.

Most of you will not know me, which is fair enough as I am one of those people who has never really quite made it big, and one of those players who never wanted to make it big. I just wanted to experience the stories that this game tells and the relationships that it builds. I wanted the experience and I got it, and more.

Ever since I joined Erepublik in November of last year, back at the dawn of 1.0, in the UK I have tried to do as much as possible, in terms of varied experiences. I think I succeeded, being a soldier, an officer, a diplomat, a politician and a spy in that time in four different countries, experiencing a wide spread of cultures and characters of the type that only the internet can create.

Of those four countries, the UK, USA, Philippines and Australia my unequivocal favourite has to be Australia. In my experience, it is filled with helpful and warm people each as interesting and as varied as one could wish. Finally, when I reached here, I felt settled and I felt like I was achieving something. I have watched this ecountry grow and loved every second. So, my love for the community that is Australia warrants a confession and an apology, just to get it off my chest - I was, when in the Senate and Cabinet, a spy for MI6 and the Filipino NICA. Granted, I doubt the information I passed did much, it wasn't exactly interesting, but I never really felt comfortable with betraying trust. Still, I did it and now I apologise.

Finally, some shoutouts for those epeople past and present that have made my experience so enjoyable.

The Movement for Democratic Unity of December 2008 - BBB, Tommy, Richard, Oexis and the rest. The best party I've ever been in, a genuine atmosphere of warmth.

HazzN, Ariel and Wolfie from the Philippines (and HazzN from before too)

The Australian Communist Party - Garven and Dean in particular

Ranger, Cerri, Cozza and the rest of the Aussie IRC dwellers.

There are others I haven't mentioned, probably because of my shoddy memory, but hopefully you know who you are.

Farewell!
