Eris Caelestis: A welcome change of scenery

An open letter from Andreas Stassivik to the citizens of eNorway
Eris is a kind and considerate person who genuinely cares about Norway. After she first joined eRepublik, she quickly became active on the eNorway Forums, IRC channels, and Congress, dedicating much of her time outside of the game to learn about Norway's people, culture, and language. Without any formal language instruction she was quickly able to learn Norwegian, exhibiting her drive for initiative, intelligence, affinity for learning, and most importantly, her dedication.
Eris is one of the most dedicated people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She sees ideas as opportunities and doesn't like to let them go to waste. She fights strongly for her beliefs, and fortunately for all of us she is a strong believer in our nation's prosperity and always has been. This determination is an important key in what makes her unique and highly dependable. That being said, I can proudly attest to knowing her for seven years of my life. Long before she entered the New World I witnessed the traits she exhibits with you today.
Thanks to my own knowledge of the New World improving alongside Eris, I feel now I can properly justify my full support for a presidential candidate such as Eris. However, if you as a Norwegian citizen haven't had the opportunity to learn about what she offers us this December 2009 presidential election, allow me to explain!
In her valgtale article, Eris objectively presented her campaign goals, summarized as follows:
- Improve national security through reorganizing military intelligence, structure, and recruitment
- Improve citizen well-being by expanding healthcare
- Improve foreign policy through support of new ambassador program
- Increase citizen participation in government by encouraging public voting
- Increase population through immigration campaigns

Eris has proven her qualifications for the presidency. She is full of talent and determination and is backed by the party statistically shown to have the most experience in Norway's government: Teknokratene. Even though Teknokratene has some incredibly experienced players, they still understand the importance of bestowing leadership responsibilities on young candidates as full of potential as Eris, which is precisely why they elected her as party leader. Her political experience includes being a third-term Congress member, Minister of Immigration, Teknokratene Party President, and a member of the prestigious Forsvarets Spesialkommando.
I do not at all blame the members of the Binary Party for supporting Cirno. He has been a good president several times in our history, but like every man he has flaws. One of these flaws--which I have observed by working alongside him in Congress--is that he has shown inflexibility and apprehension towards trying new ideas. He has indeed adapted to changing situations like military treaties and building hospitals, but these are things which all informed politicians are capable of understanding and supporting, and good presidents like him listen to experienced advisors.
The world is a constantly changing environment, and both eNorge and the New World are no exceptions. What we truly need right now is a fresh, unique approach to running our country, and Eris best fits this criteria. Cirno contributed his efforts to Norway twice, and now he seeks to run for a third term in place of a young politician who has proven she has much to offer all of us. With respect to what he has helped us achieve, I sincerely believe it is time for Cirno to use his wisdom and experience to advise Eris Caelestis instead of lingering for yet another term, essentially putting the needs of Norway ahead of his own.
These principles of fairness are based on real-world governments that utilize term limits. It is not that they disrespect people with experience, but rather organize their political system to encourage flexibility that is otherwise diminished. Even the newly-formed Binary Party's recent success is owed to efforts of young politicians full of new ideas!
It is time to give Eris the chance she deserves to prove her dedication to Norway.

I do honestly feel you are very unfair towards me here.

How can you say I dont like changes, when all I've done is changes? I reformed our military, creating the FSK unit, that has a goal of being a totally mobile unit. I also suggested building more hospitals while EDEN and other norwegian politicians advised that we only needed one. And my government has recently established the ambassador law, something entirely new in Norway.

You make it sound like I've had two terms in a row, but my last term was when we restored our country after a hostile PTO in May. The reason I ran then was that there was a common agreement about running with me as the norwegian candidate. While this last period that I've been President, I've done everything that Eris and TT says they will do the next month.
So all in all, with Eris saying she'll just follow up what i started, I do sincerely think this is a unfair presentation of me and my performance as president.
Slightly off message - but honestly, what is the point in building hospitals in every region?
All this will do is spread our population out making our core regions cheaper and easier to attack.
Plus Admins have mentioned looking at making hospitals wear out over time. Does buying a hospital for the 30 people in Svalbard look like such a good purchase now? So shouldn't we spend our money on other things? Like MPPs so our troops can fight every day and level up?
I don't think this article is very fair to Cirno. Like he is saying himself, most of the things listed, are things Cirno and BP has already started. And how can taking the same issues Binary Party and Cirno stand for, be characterized as change?
And for Cirno being inflexibel and apprehensive towards trying new ideas, it is simply not true. Again - like he mentions, he has been the key man behind many great ideas.
Aside from Eris flirting with Demokratene about the citizen voting, most of her program is a copy of what Cirno has already started. Claiming this to be new, and a change, I frankly find a bit rude...
So - why vote for a president who will only be taking over the same tasks as the previous president are already doing - quite successfully as well, I might add.

How can this be rude? This has never been an issue you have mentioned before, untill now, when conveniently Demokratene, who has issued this at least three times in a month, doesn't have a candidate to vote for...

Last, but not least;

I'm impressed, (video). BP and TT has very similar policies but we need new people I think, into eNorwegian politics, so for the first time I will vote for a TT candidate to😇

If you read my speech, I never claimed those things to be my achivements, I say 'we', as in me and my party, Damien is a BP man, and part of my team that made the changes. I never tried to hide that fact.

For the time beeing I see that Eris is much more bold, resolute, inventive, purposeful.
So my vote goes to her.

I usually like to focus my campaign on myself, and not the opponent, but when people come after me with false accusations I won't hesitate to reply, even though that might fall out of my ordinary approach to not comment on the opponent.
Cirno, you have stated before that you feel that this is article is unfair to you (or you were victimized, misrepresented, etc/osv). I have presented my case from personal experience about you overlooking new ideas from non-BP members, and I have help defend against BP comments and attack ads that claim Eris is a so-called "copycat" because the bilateral vision of a strong Norway "can only belong to BP," just because it was under Cirno's watch that Norway became stronger, etc.
I lived in the United States for most of George W. Bush's years in office, and when he was re-elected in 2004 he claimed that he had kept America safe from terrorist attacks since Sept. 11, 2001. He claimed that just because he was in charge during the time (even though he is only one man, flawed like you and me), the people are "safer" without letting someone else take office.
The citizens will realize that despite your undoubtedly positive achievements, innovation will not be stifled because BP doesn't run the whole show by itself. It is our duty as public officials to represent what the citizens want, and I believe they want good ideas implemented from both Binary Party AND Teknokratene. If I am mistaken, my error will be prominently displayed at the end of the election at midnight, and I will humbly concede.
The attitude "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" shouldn't be synonymous with "if it isn't broken, ignore opportunities to improve it."
We are all fortunate, Cirno, because I believe Eris will make a very fair president who will try to cooperate with Binary Party in every way she can. Many BP members and TeK members are friends as far as I know, and we have similar visions with unique approaches as you have seen in this platform. Otherwise we'd all be in the same party, wouldn't we? 🙂
