1.7 Ludo for USWP

Day 2,060, 22:40 Published in USA USA by Ludonarr

It's that time again in the eUS. In a few short days we head to the polls to elect us some new Party Presidents. I'm excited. A look around the top parties reveals a bevy of fantastic candidates set to lead their parties for the next month.

Here in the USWP, we have benefited over the past couple months from the leadership of Othere, who is now the Vice President of the eUnited States. Othere took a large but stagnant party and breathed new life into it, laying the foundation for further development and success.

I'd like to be the one to continue building up this party.

In case that wasn't clear, I am announcing my candidacy for PP of the United States Workers Party.

My qualifications

Though relatively new to the party, in the few months I have been here I have dabbled in many things. Currently in my second month in Congress, I have served both terms as USWP Congressional Whip. I have contributed to USWP media, helped to organize the Zombie Defense Force, and served as both USWP Spokesman and Othere's Chief of Staff. In addition to my party responsibilities I have written for the DoD paper as a correspondent, served briefly as an Air Force XO, and am currently Paul's Deputy CoS.

Why Me?

The USWP has a long history of success going back to the beginnings of this game. Blah blah history yada yada. The point is, we have much as a party to take pride in. However, it often seems that we have been content to rest on our laurels, coasting on our legacy rather than striving to be worthy of it or, Dio forbid, surpass it.

Now is the time to get busy folks. Now is the time to swing for the fences and become the great party that I know the USWP is capable of being.

You may be wondering, how do we do this Ludo? Fantastic question reader, I will tell you:

Activity

A party is only as good as what it offers to its members, and outside of Brains 4 Zombies, we have not been offering our members much of substance.

Stealing an idea from Israel Stevens (thanks pal), we can do more to get folks talking on IRC. Too often our leadership carries on conversations in private channels or individual chats that, if placed in the public #uswpchat channel, could help to spark conversation and fun, making our members feel more at home and giving a welcoming impression to visitors.

Our leadership can also be more active and engaged with the rank and file of our party. During my term weekly party meetings would be established, with the minutes posted publicly on the forums. This would help to further keep our leaders on the same page and provide an easy avenue for the average party member to interact with our party leadership and make their voice heard.

We'll probably add more games and contests to boost the fun etc, but honestly I want our focus to turn away from mindless posting of profile links and towards legitimate two-way conversations and debates.

Media

Frankly, it just needs to be revived at this point. Due to a number of issues it fell by the wayside this month. I intend to pick it up.

Working with the many fine writers in our party, we will begin to push out more USWP articles, boosting awareness for our writing talent and showcasing what the USWP can offer. Some discussions have also been had regarding the old Empire News Network and how it can be utilized for a party podcast and other media. Long in the discussion phase, I hope to finally get the USWP Writer's Guild up off the ground as well.

Finally, the party brand. Owning the zombie motif is a nice way to subvert a popular criticism of the USWP. That being said, I feel it is time to put a bullet through the brain of this theme and craft a message that will capture the imagination of potential party members.

Recruitment and retention, leadership accountability, these are things that also need to be addressed. Together with excellent members both new and old, we will tackle this things head on in order to improve the USWP. It won't always be easy, we won't succeed at everything, but we will make our best effort, and challenge our rivals to do the same.

No middle finger, sorry everyone

So, if you are USWP, head on over to our Party President Primary and make your voice heard. There really are no bad options this month.

Thanks for your time,

-Ludo
