[WYD] The Military of Opportunity MU (Day 2174)

Day 2,174, 10:02 Published in Canada Canada by Addy Lawrence

FORWARD

This is the flagship article establishing the Military of Opportunity (MOO) as a Military Unit in eCanada. It will be linked to the MU description. It is my hope that this is the beginning of something special.

What differentiates the Military of Opportunity from other MUs?

The Military of Opportunity is an MU focused on the development of Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 soldiers through Combat Orders and Mentorship.

Why is a focus on Combat Orders relevant to the purpose of the MU?

Clicking the work button earns a citizen 2 XP. This applies to both your owner-worker clicks and your employee-worker clicks. It is your XP that drives your levelling up to the next Division. Advanced game strategy dictates that a citizen stay in the lower divisions as long as possible while ranking up your strength to create a competitive advantage in Division 1, 2 and 3.

A soldier's time spent in Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 is limited and the purpose of MOO is to help take advantage of that limited opportunity. This provides eCanada with a distinct advantage and on an individual level, there are plenty of BH and CH medals to win in these divisions by employing this sound rank up strategy.

What about MOO's offering to Division 4?

To be candid, Division 4 is not on the radar of the Military of Opportunity.

There is an abundance of players in Division 4, as this is where you spend the balance of your eLife. MOO will not be providing supply drops nor combat orders of any kind to Division 4 members.

That said, Division 4 players, like myself, are desired in MOO to mentor new players as a sort of "Big Brother". In addition, MOO is looking for Division 4 players interested in a "Pay It Forward" exercise where they can give back to a new player what was provided to them.

How will MOO realize its goal?

The Military of Opportunity is going to employ a handful of strategies to achieve this.

First, my portfolio of companies are going to be leased to the MU for free and all profits derived from the operation will be donated to the MU each day.

Second, the MU is going to issue Combat Orders exclusively for its Division 1 and Division 2 soldiers. This will provide funding to our active soldiers in low divisions so they don't have to work for a wage to get by.

MOO will provide them the means to earn money without accumulating XP for working. The goal is to make the Combat Orders as attractive as possible to reduce the need to even self-supply with worker clicks. The Combat Orders will be funded by donations to the MOO MU and will be split proportionately between Division 1 and Division 2 based on the number of MU members in each Division.

Third, Division 1 and Division 2 citizens will be required to accept a job with the MU for $5 a day. These employees will not be expected to work as it will generate XP. If they do work, the profits of their work click will be donated to the MU and used for Combat Orders. By accepting a job with me, I will be able to confirm that they are not working.

Fourth, Division 3 and Division 4 citizens will have the option to work for a market wage. The profits from their work clicks will be donated to the MU fund. They will be encouraged to donate to the MU fund from time to time but there is no obligation. They will also be encouraged to interact with the MU members and help develop the Division 1 and Division 2 soldiers as well as build up morale in MU tournaments. At the moment, the market wage for MOO MU members is $30 per day. Division 3 and Division 4 members can elect to work for a lower wage of their choice. Any profits generated by electing to work for a reduced wage will be donated to the MU for Combat Orders. The option to work for a full market wage is limited to 10 members only which is how many spots I have in my Q7 food factory.

Fifth, each day, I will personally donate 2 Q7 weapons (20 hits) to the 10 lowest ranking members who are below Division 3. Any prizes that can't be awarded due to limited membership will be sold off and the proceeds donated to the MU account for Combat Orders.

What is expected of a new recruit in Division 1?

Division 1 recruits will be expected to liquidate their initial companies and upgrade their Training Grounds. This ensures they avoid those work clicks and focus on ranking up their strength and accelerating their Super Soldier rank up curve. I will personally donate 16 Q7 food (320 health) each day to each recruit who proves that they have done his. This is the estimate of the health they give up each day with the divestiture of those companies. I will maintain this donation until they earn their first SS medal.

Where would a recruit work in a commune if they wanted a supply drop?

There will be no commune option available for people looking for a supply drop. All work clicks go toward funding the MU account for Combat Orders.

What is the expectation of activity for members of this MU?

If you aren't active, you will be booted. Space will be limited to one regiment of active soldiers.

Will the MU have open membership?

The Military of Opportunity will have a closed membership and will be limited in size to a single regiment of 30 members. The max size of a group pm in-game is 30 members. I want to keep a real tight family feel to this MU and I believe this approach will achieve this. I want to maintain a family atmosphere and high levels of activity which should sniff out the multies.

Are you sure this will work?

The Military of Opportunity has limited experience running a Combat Order based development MU so I expect there to be some unanticipated problems. I do not believe that these will be so problematic that they cannot be worked through as we encounter them. The fundamental goal is to keep new players from accumulating XP while leveling up their strength and rank. This goal will influence how the problems are worked through.

Military of Opportunity sounds like a knock-off of Ministry of Opportunity, what gives?

Despite the obvious parallel between Military of Opportunity (MilOO) and Ministry of Opportunity (MinOO), there is no political motif embedded in MilOO nor any attachment of MilOO to any political party. Anyone is welcome.

Since I founded the Ministry of Opportunity, I have no problems with ripping off the MOO acronym. Just as I was the architect of MinOO, I will be the architect of MilOO and as the team grows, the success of the group will grow as well.

Is there a border or symbol that is required to be used?

At the moment, there is no border or symbol. I would prefer that there was one but I want to leave that to "the family" to develop as the culture, values and identity of the MU takes shape. It is important to me that the fingerprints of the members be on this part of the MOO brand.

How are you going to keep multis out?

Multis will be a problem. As a matter of fact, I was mentoring Lily Amber Whyte as a test case for the format and it was working well until her account was banned for multi. References will be preferred.

What about players who take advantage of your generosity while they are in Division 1 and Division 2 and then take off when they hit Division 3?

It will be disappointing to see them leave but I expect them to be tempted to leave for a better or more relevant supply drop once they rank up. I prefer to look at this as them "graduating" as opposed to them abandoning MOO.

That said, by using the Combat Order approach, these people will have focused their development in battle priorities set by the MU which will be aligned with eCanada's military objectives. Their rank-up will have been to the nation's benefit and they will have provided eCan with a competitive advantage in Division 1 and Division 2.

I'm hoping that people refer solid new players to MOO as a sort of incubation. I will be totally okay with mentoring soldiers referred to us from another MU who end up returning to that MU after they level up.

Who are the charter members of the Military of Opportunity?

Well, I thought it was just going to be me but Ralph Kline and Acacia Mason have joined the MU just based on the notion that I was starting an MU project. I thank them for their faith in the mystery and I hope they continue their support as charter members of the MU now that the proverbial cat is out of the bag.

How do I join the Military of Opportunity?

If you want to join the herd, pm me and I'll send you the invite to pursue this opportunity.

If you just want to join the MU as a Division 4 player interested in a $30 per day job, that is fine too.

SHAMELESS PLUG, SON

As a Division 4 player, I cannot deliver damage in lower divisions, but I can help lower division players to excel in those divisions and I see this as a kind of extension of my ability to deliver Division 4 damage into lower divisions. I hope that other Division 4 players see it this way as well and join me in mentoring these new players.

Remember TFD, the epitome of swagger in this game.

Remember Plugson, the epitome of good in this game.
