[WRP] - A view from Parliament - Issue 46

Day 2,616, 14:46 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Huey George

Introduction

It has been 16 days since I last updated you my constituents about my time in Congress this term. In this time we've seen a Country President's term come to an end and a new Country President's term start. We have also seen 34 law proposals, this is more than 2 a day so a lot for me to consider and include in this article to allow you a chance to review my voting. The majority are as a result of a policy an expansion of the Mutual Protection Pacts we hold as a Country which I'm generally in favour of to support so as a bit of a spoiler expect lots of stright forward 'yes' votes.

Law Proposals

MPP
President of Estonia proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted Yes. Estonia have been a good long standing ally.

The vote ended;
35 YES votes to 2 NO votes in the UK
28 YES vote to 3 NO votes in Estonia

MPP
President of United Kingdom proposed a mutual protection pact with Spain

I voted Yes. While there was a little bit of a debate surrounding this one I sided with those who wanted to sign an MPP with Spain at the time as they are a long term ally, who have been respectful to us and diligent in support us in times of need. Some concerns raised about the potential impact if the need to reset determination or shift the position of Croatia became an issue however our friendship with Spain was worth a little financial risk.

The vote ended;
18 YES votes to 15 NO votes in the UK
1 YES vote to 0 NO votes in Spain

MPP
President of Lithuania proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted Yes. Lithuania are a fine ally to have.

The vote ended;
36 YES votes to 0 NO votes in the UK
34 YES vote to 1 NO votes in Lithuania

Message to New Citizens
Do you agree on the text used by the president to welcome new Citizens in your country?

I voted No. Once again, While I can somewhat appreciate the humour aspect of the message, I don't feel this is a suitable way to welcome new citizens to our country and infact could be counter productive in new citizen retention.

EDIT: I've been asked by a constituent to expand on with I feel this message would be counter productive to retaining new citizens. This specific message would have become quickly out of date due to it referring the the "past 4 weeks" and referred to a trivia challenge not vital in new world mechanics to complete. In addition it doesn't promote the benefits of the UK or useful information / links.

The vote ended
14 YES votes to 19 NO votes.

Trade Embargo
President of United-Kingdom proposes to stop the trade with Israel

I voted No. The case for the embargo was not presented strongly enough.

The vote ended
8 YES votes to 23 NO votes.

Natural enemy
France

I voted No. While a natural enemy set against France is always a strong temptation, I cast my vote against the law proposal as the timing and potential consequences outweighed any possible benefits.

The vote ended
10 YES votes to 26 NO votes

Declare War
Do you agree on declaring war to USA

I voted No. After considering the cost of a declaration of war (256 Gold), our reasonable relationship with the USA and that the case and more importantly plan for war (how we'd support our ally Lithuania) was not presented strongly enough.

The vote ended
15 YES votes to 21 NO votes

MPP
President of United Kingdom proposed a mutual protection pact with South Africa

I voted No. A MPP which would have not benefit us or South Africa due to our respective stacks of MPPs.

The vote ended;
13 YES votes to 18 NO votes in the UK
11 YES vote to 24 NO votes in South Africa

President Impeachment
Do you want the current president of United Kingdom to end this office?
Ser Fartsalot

I voted No. I'd only vote to impeach our democratically elected country president on grounds of gross incompetence, corruption, inactivity or strong will of the people. SerF was elected with 57.25% of the vote and had only just begun his term, the strongest indication he should remain in office.

The vote ended
14 YES votes to 17 NO votes

MPP

Message to New Citizens
Do you agree on the text used by the president to welcome new Citizens in your country?

I voted No. I don't feel this is a suitable way to welcome new citizens to our country and infact could be counter productive in new citizen retention.

EDIT: I've been asked by a constituent to expand on with I feel this message would be counter productive to retaining new citizens. This specific massage seems to infer we are either occultists, fans of Halloween or the UK is a graveyard or something else... Whatever the case as a new citizen I'd find it fairly off-putting. In addition it doesn't promote the benefits of the UK or useful information / links.

The vote ended
11 YES votes to 18 NO votes

Natural enemy
Argentina

I voted Yes. Once more to support the efforts of our CP, his MoD and our allies in South America.

The vote ended
29 YES votes to 2 NO votes

MPP
President of Paraguay proposed a mutual protection pact with United Kingdom

I voted Yes. Once again a chance to support having a new ally.

The vote ended;
27 YES votes to 3 NO votes in the UK
14 YES vote to 1 NO votes in Paraguay

Message to New Citizens
Do you agree on the text used by the president to welcome new Citizens in your country?

I voted No. Again I don't feel this is a suitable way to welcome new citizens to our country and infact is very likely to be counter productive in new citizen retention.

EDIT: I've been asked by a constituent to expand on with I feel this message would be counter productive to retaining new citizens. This specific massage is very misleading on how new world mechanics operate. It is a not a warm way to welcome free-thinking new citizens who would like a chance to influence their world (although the humorous presentation does suggest jest). In addition SerFartsalot received enormous public support to become CP via democratic elections. I'd much rather see a message focus on this positive aspect. Finally once again it doesn't promote the benefits of the UK or useful information / links.

The vote ended
11 YES votes to 19 NO votes

Natural enemy
Norway

I voted Yes. Once again I'm happy to support the efforts of our CP and his MoD.

The vote ended
25 YES votes to 7 NO votes

Message to New Citizens
Do you agree on the text used by the president to welcome new Citizens in your country?
MESSAGE FOR THE PUPPETS WHO ARE PREPARING AN ATTACK ON THE BANANA REPUBLIK:

Regards from a retarded Congress. '

I voted No. Probably not a surprise if you've made it this far however once more I don't feel this is a suitable way to welcome new citizens to our country and infact is very likely once again to be counter productive in new citizen retention.

EDIT: I've been asked by a constituent to expand on with I feel this message would be counter productive to retaining new citizens. This specific massage has numerous faults however foremost is the derogatory use of the word retarded, to refer Congress are as stupid as someone who is mentally handicapped. The implication is that the only characteristic of mentally handicapped individuals is their stupidity.

The vote stands as of 14:38 Day 2,616 of the New World
7 YES votes to 23 NO votes

MPP
President of United Kingdom proposed a mutual protection pact with Bulgaria

I voted Yes. I'm in favour of this MPP (like most MPPs law proposals raised) however there seems to be a little confusion surrounding it so it may have been more prudent to have held my vote. However my vote is cast.

The vote stands as of 14:38 Day 2,616 of the New World
19 YES votes to 3 NO votes in the UK
11 YES vote to 10 NO votes in Bulgaria
