[UNI] Mutual Protection Pacts And You
eRepublik offers only one game mechanic for alliances: Mutual Protection Pacts (MPP), otherwise known in the New World as alliances. You might see something similar to this on your National Feeds: "Philippines signed an alliance with Malaysia." This means that the Philippines and Malaysia are now bound by a MPP.
So what is a MPP?
A MPP can be many things, like a deterrent from possible aggression, but the bare bones explanation of a MPP is that it provides an ally in times of war. If an original region of the Philippines were to be attacked, every current MPP will be activated, allowing the citizens of those countries to fight in defense of the Philippines region. MPP's are active for 30 days, at which time the Congress of each nation must accept/reject a continuance.
Example: A border nation wants the high oil region of Palawan, but they see that the Philippines has an alliance with Indonesia. The border nation backs down, not wanting to take on the Philippines AND Indonesia.
The price of security.
An alliance costs 30 Gold and is automatically withdrawn from the national treasury after it is proposed by the President. Congress must accept or reject the proposal, and if it is successfully rejected by a nations Congress, the 30 Gold is deposited back into the national treasury.
Example: President Ariel David Buena proposes an alliance with Indonesia and Malaysia. 60 Gold is automatically withdrawn from the Philippines treasury, 30 Gold for each proposal. Indonesia's Congress accepts the proposal and the alliance becomes active on the day it is approved. Malaysia rejects the proposal and 30 Gold is deposited back into the treasury.
Regions and why they matter.
Original regions are those that belong to the country and cannot be liberated through Resistance Wars. The Philippines have four original regions. If any of these regions were to be attacked, all of the Philippines' MPP's would be activated. If the Philippines were to conquer a foreign region and another nation attacked it, any MPP that was not already activated would not activate, as it is not an original Philippines region.
Example: Malaysia attacks Mindanao, Philippines. This activates all active alliances on the side of the Philippines. Despite the allied resistance, Malasyia conquers Mindanao. Indonesia steps in by attacking Mindanao. No Malaysian MPP's are activated by this action.
Hope this helps in your understanding of alliances and how they work.
