Good Day and welcome to issue #3 of the New UK Today!

Nominations for the new Speaker of the House of Commons were started on the 26th with the vote being confirmed today with a new speaker being elected. The two candidates who were put forward were Aidizzle and Darkmantle. The vote started yesterday and ended today with the votes 9 for Aidizzle, 8 for Darkmantle while 8 MP's abstained. This meant that Aidizzle has been elected as the new Speaker of the House with Darkmantle as his Deputy. Good luck to them!
Attracting your attention to Public Discussion there has been a few rather big things happening that will affect the UK in a fairly large way. The first we'll look at is the discussion over whether a 50 member Non-Political Military Unit should be given citizenship to the UK as they are looking to move over here, there has been a mix of feelings towards this, however the vote is up now. Another rather important thing the repeal of the Strasbourg Treaty proposed. The Strasbourg Treaty is a document signed by the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Portugal where we all basically look after each other. Lately there has been much discussion over where we should stand on Foreign Policy with there being a very split feeling on what should happen to the Strasbourg Treaty.

We don't want you to get upset, but we do have some bad news for you today I'm afraid, we wont be giving out any newspaper or article awards. I know, I know, it's the best part of the article but sometimes there's nothing that catches the eye of the Awards team with this being one of those times. Don't worry though, there's always next time!
