[UK CP] Democracy? Dictatorship? If dictatorship who?

This article is going to talk about the up coming UK referendum. In it I will look at the arguments for both democracy and dictatorship, as well as who should be the dictator and how the referendum should be conducted.
Democracy
If you are politically minded this will most likely be the option you immediately think of, however there are downsides to this as well as good points. For example it takes 200,000 CC plus the cost of Combat Orders to take over a country that is currently in democracy, where as with a dictatorship the cost is 400,000 CC plus CO's. With democracy potentially there could be one battle and your country could be taken over.
There are plenty of really big MU's in other countries that have the ability to take over nations against their will. For example Nemesis took control of Switzerland recently, emptying the country accounts of money in the process. With democracies any congress member can give any citizen from any country citizenship; this is a downside, but a relatively small one in the grand scheme of things. The real problem is a military take overs by either a hostile foreign force or an extremely well funded internal force (maybe even drawing in foreign fighters for support).
What can be done to protect a democracy without choosing to impose a dictator?
1.) Inform the citizens, the MoD and the MoFA to go into action as soon as an undemocratically agreed coup begins. Citizens would automatically fight for democracy. The MoD would automatically write an article explaining the situation/telling people to fight for democracy, set Combat orders and put out shouts. The MoD and MoFA teams would both begin PMing CP's/MoD's/MoFA's of allied nations that are online (and some offline) to ask for support.
2.) Empty the national account of all excess CC and Gold, by putting it in national organisation accounts. This stops raiders tempted to attack the UK solely to steal UK money. Firstly attackers won't be able to see how much money the UK has (unless the know every single organisation account the UK has). Secondly, once funds are in national orgs the money can put into Combat Orders (COs) to defend against the attack.
In national orgs the money can still be stolen if a dictator takes over as the admins have said a dictator has the right to all funds in the national account and national orgs. However if needed at the last minute before a dictator takes over we could send any remaining CC out of the national orgs to a trusted UK citizen. Leaving the attackers a grand total of 0.00 CC (before more taxes come in). If the money was left in the national account we would not be able to do a last minute denial of funds to an attacker as it takes 24 hours to move money out of the nation account.
3.) Ask the International Democracy Army for assistance. This is a large force of players from lots of nations, their one objective is preventing hostile coups anywhere in the world. I have already contacted them for support in the even of a hostile coup. They will only assist in foreign funded coups, so we will be on our own if a UK citizen had the ability to start a coup. Honestly a hostile coup from a UKer is a long shot, even if someone with the abilities of BigAnt wanted to. They would have to be willing to spend a huge amount of money and they would need to secure the support of vast fighters (more than just CO hunters, as CO alone would not defeat the UK plus allies).
*Sorry BigAnt for throwing you under the bus. I understand you have not acted in a way that would suggest you have the desire or ability to do this, but some people will argue you pose a threat.
4.) Other methods for protection of democracy:
- Inform allies in advance seeking protection deals
- Buy up MU's that are not active (where the Commander will happily sell)
- Use the 3 hours notice given to MU Commanders to make last minute preparations.
Dictatorship
There is one big benefit to this, it becomes very difficult to take over a country under dictatorship. A dictatorship will stop rogue congress members handing out citizenships all over the place, but we don't have any at the minute so this won't help in that regard.
With dictatorship there is one huge up side, but multiple downsides... The President (CP) loses all control of his abilities (bar the new citizen message) unless he is the Dictator, and congress lose all of their power to. Dictatorship focuses all of the power in the hands of one person, and if we don't like what the Dictator is doing or goes inactive it is 200,000 CC to remove them. 'Determination' builds up against a dictatorship and it means it will become impossible to defend a Dictator after a certain amount of time. Even a month becomes very difficult as determination adds power onto every fight against a Dictator in a revolution. This means we could lose Dictators who are protecting the UK easily after a month . Then we would have to try and re-appoint a Dictator at another 200,000 CC in cost.
To put 200,000 CC into perspective... The UK currently brings in 10,000 CC a day. Each MPP the UK has costs 10,000 CC to renew (the UK currently has 11 and this is a relatively small amount). The UK then has other costs such as training ground loans, training contract loans, renting our fruit regions from Norway (a large ongoing cost, but worth it), CO we may want to use to sustain activity and CO we may want to use to defend the UK.
Overall the UK has to weigh up the good points and bad ones and decide how we can make the best of our resources. I welcome the debate in the comments but remember to keep it objective and civil.

Being in a Dictatorship really does make us a lot safer, but what I really want to address is the IDA issue.
The IDA does have a bit of power, and you can ideologically admire what they're doing, but just because they get involved doesn't guarantee anything. There are plenty of foreign MU's out there that deal more damage than the whole of the UK in a week, and if one of them decided they wanted their own Island home we'd be screwed.

It should be mentioned that one problem with having CP as dictator is we have to revolution and THEN impeach to fully get rid of them if they turn out to be god awful. Whereas if the CP and dictator are separate people and one of them turns out to be bad it's less of an issue (Dictator can block bad CP from doing stuff, just a revolution gets rid of bad dictator as opposed to revolution and then impeachment).
Of course if both turn out to be terrible we've got the same problem but the chances of that aren't too high.
I'd wait for 48 hours before starting the vote, let this article 'expire' so to speak first.
Determination is a big point against dictatorship that was previously overlooked. It was already up to 2.09 against Wayne in the recent revolution - which is tough to to defend against (and only ever going to get worse).
Another point against dictatorship is that, even when the dictator allows the elected government to carry out all their normal tasks, game mechanics get in the way. Congress is dysfunctional at the best of times - having to manually count up votes over their already chaotic multiple PMs would be a truly crap job.

Dictatorship is 200,000 GBP to get a few days warning on a take over attempt. That's the only positive.
You forget the other resources needed as well, such as weapons and maybe CO's.

Actually no... You need millions in CO to defend against a serious MTO attempt and only 200k cc for the organised coup.
For all the good points raised, the 200 000 UKP (400 000 UKP if we manage determination) isn't worth the cost for dictatorship. Within 3 months, we could save up enough for Combat Orders crazy enough to make a revolution impossible to succeed.
There is a sense of nihilism that creeps into Congress even if the dictator is cooperating. Government feels even less direct. If anything, if we do go with a dictatorship, I would seriously consider just running the country by referendum to maximise involvement instead of layering it further.

Having a dictatorship is not as safe as you claim in your article. once a dictator is installed we have no control over when that person is replaced or who replaces them. even the "most trusted" of players can still run off with all the money or go inactive.

I for one would support Democracy having only started a month ago I witnessed the revolution.
My issues would be, a Country President has a term in office.. he was poor and lost a re-election.. is he likely to give up the dictatorship lightly or try and keep a hold on power? That would become a 400k mistake instead of a 'safe' 200k investment.
I do think if we are making 10k a day, shouldn't we be saving some of this for combat orders in case a dictator attempt is made from an outside party.
Also instead of wasting money, I would like to see a extension to support for new players!
Is the Dictatorship module nothing more than an engine invented by the game admins to increase consumption of money and resources?
From a purely financial perspective, the best way of remaining prosperous is to stay well away from Dictatorship power struggles, keep taxes relatively low - and make sure that profits are reinvested back into the static assets of the nation (factories/training facilities) where they are totally immune to takeover.
Ultimately to be successful in this world it is necessary to attract as many citizens with as much invested 'wealth' as possible - and from what I can see Dictatorship play reduces both the will to go on and the wealth available to invest in infrastructure.
In summary, Dictatorship is bollucks - let's not go there!
