~The War Mod: Still Broken~
Before getting into this, I would like to say that from now on I am going to treat the admins with complete respect. Those who feel that the majority of the problems in erepublik are the admins’ fault do not consider the hard work that they are putting into this rapidly expanding website each and every day. That said, I am moving onto the topic of interest for this article. In Beta, the problem with the war mod was that every war last for one hour. In the beginning of V1, walls were too high. So, what’s the problem now?
The difficulty and expenses of war.
No, it is not too expensive. No, it is not too difficult. Quite the contrary. Many of you were amazed when you saw that there were 15 wars going on at once. I, for one, was not. Let's look at some comparisons to today and yesterday, in Beta.
Price of war in Beta, for the USA (7000 citizens): 7300 gold
Price of war in V1 for the USA (7000 citizens): 560 gold minimum, as well as 50 gold/region + 25% of the citizen population according to which region is being attacked.
War is simply far too inexpensive. Resistance wars across the world are jumping up, very randomly I might add. South Korea, Germany, Finland, India, China, and even in Switzerland have jumped on this opportunity to attempt to regain back their lost territory in Beta. No doubt, the territory lost in Beta was gained much more difficultly than how it was regained in V1.
But it doesn’t stop with the price of war. The biggest problem with resistance wars, along with the cost, is the fact that the smaller the region, the easier it is to win it back. This should be entirely opposite! Australia, a country much larger than any of those aforementioned, is going to have a tough time regaining their country fully. Am I the only one seeing the irony in this? Resistance wars don’t just spring up, they are supposed to resemble exactly what they say - a resistance. Te bigger the resistance, the easier the war. Conquest wars don’t just spring up either, but nonetheless we have three of them going on at once (if you count Brazil and Indonesia as two different factions, that is), just like how we had 10+ resistance wars at once, too.
The solution - make war more costly and change the structure of a resistance war. The formulas simply should not be the same. I think that the cost for a war should be the following:
Conquest war: 300 gold + 20% of the nation’s army + 25 gold for each enemy MPP.
Cost per region: 25 gold + 5% of the citizens in that region
After thinking about the formula for the resistance war cost for, seriously, over an hour straight of formula manipulation, I couldn’t come up with anything that produced reasonable and realistic prices. If anybody reading this is mathematical minded, I invite you to come up with a realistic formula that adds in these factors: Country citizen count, regional citizen count, and number of regions. The formula should produce higher prices for resistance wars with the best citizen to region to country ratio, meaning that the more citizens or the more regions in a country, the cheaper.
I ask the admins to please consider my feelings and act swiftly. Indonesia and Brazil’s wars combined cost less than 1000 gold, a ridiculous price. Not only will they be able to pick which regions they desire to obtain without wasting a lot of gold, but the resistance wars started in Argentina (that is, if they are conquered - fat chance) will be thwarted because a lot of citizens are in each region. Again, I beg of citizens to see this backwards logic.
Thank you to the admins and everybody who acknowledges this article. I have put much thought into coming up with the solutions to problems, rather than simply bickering about them.
In other news:
The US has been focusing on our economic and military make up over the past week. The top economic-minds in our great country are looking to create an “Economy University” so to speak, in which aspiring economists will have the opportunity to work with others on major issues in the US, learn about the vast mentalities of our economy, and even apply to be a part of the Economic Council, one of the most well-known and competitive positions in the country.
Militarily, we are on the verge of complete restructure. Before this month, we had three Generals, a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a National Security Guard, and a Secretary of Defense. Five of these six military high figures are resigning their spots, most to pursue a life abroad. It is going to be difficult to reform our military, but it is definitely possible. Announcements to follow.
The war with Brazil and Indonesia is apparently halted due to a bug. Whether or not this is true nobody can be sure. It might just be a bluff in order to stall. To every citizen reading this article, I know how you feel. I know how the anticipation of war is painful and desires much patience, but be ready for a strike at any time. Though this is nerve-wracking (especially to me and the country’s military higherups), there isn’t much we can do. Argentina is not going to be taken.

Very well said. Having more citizens behind a resistance should help not hinder. Great article Benn.
nice article, the admins should take notice of this. It is seemingly very easy for the small regions like regions in eJapan to be claimed back by the eKoreans when the eKoreans numbers are very small.
I also agree with you that we should put more respect towards the admins and don't just blame them for all the problems and bugs occuring. After all, they are just humans like us and they also have RL issues, not just merely working on erepublik alone. It's very unfair to blame the admins when we are playing this game for free.
hmm, good article Benn
Oh Benn oh Benn... its easier to say when you shouldnt regain your own lands... why wouldnt "we" think about it a little bit more?
lets say with the old formula- we needed 300 gold to start R.W. then more tons of gold to win it, now we dont have to spend so much gold, which help minoritys like us.
Btw aprove my invetation in the msn lol.
nice article, voted
Sadly true
hmm, I'd like to be a part of this "Economy University"
let me know after i get back
Don't agree with your view on the resistance wars but in the rest I totally agree it really needs to be changed the war cost and yes the admins work hard to bring out the best, which we should be thankful.
I'm sorry Benn but I completely disagree with this.
I feel that the module right now is going in the right direction.
Do not like the low "defence values"? If I invaded a small town it would be quick too. I am sure that the major cities in a country will take MUCH longer to take over. This emphasizes strategy as people have to move their populace around to keep borders secure.
I say keep the module as it is and perhaps introduce PvP into it for perhaps the Underground and No Mans Land sections.

Good stuff Benn. Voted.
@Banach: I can see what you mean. My thinking is that whenever there is a once-conquered region that has a high population, it is solely inhabited by the former countrymen of that conquered country, but that doesn't take into mind citizens from the conquerors moving to that region to secure border areas.
Maybe citizenship should be implemented?
great article mr. president

@ Banach and Benn
Perhaps the solution you're looking for is some type of Resistance Endorsement page, where users can sign up as pro- or anti-resistance, which will calculate the cost of the resistance based on participation, while giving local government the oportunity to prepare for the event.
we have 9gold in our account....
More war means a better flow of basic materials like iron and wood.
I don't really see a problem with people wanting war anyway, it keeps the economy moving.
sakarepmu lah!!
Rock'n Roll!!!

Agreed. Voted.
i don't agree with rising costs, but i agree with implementing citizenship
I agree with you. A 20 people region must be harder than a 4000 people region, because its supposed that people who want to liberate is people whi lives there. Sorry for my bad english
a terrible bug that involves companies owners

Very good. I support resistance wars, but they are too easy to start, and with such a low cost of war, the more aggressive nations will be launching wars against each other till the cows come home.
Any news on the nuclear war patch?
Very good
Very good. Voted.
Good Article, El Presidente.
What about something like this?

The more the population of the attackers and your home country, the cheaper it will be, and vice versa for the attacked's population.
FIGHT FOR RESSISTANCEEEE! TO WESTERN CAPE

Sorry, there's a space between the 5 and the 0 for some reason.
