[The President] To Canada

Day 1,396, 17:22 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Talon Karrde

Greetings Canada,

It may appear odd that the President of your most recent, and arguably, most 'hated' enemies would speak to you publically. The latest development has prompted me to comment on your long-standing and quite bitter social fractures. However I do so not as an enemy. I'm not here to troll, incite, belittle or really pass comment. Those of you that know me will know that I don’t get my kicks from that anyway- banter, sure, but by and large I’m an honest and, I’d like to think, good natured fella. Please keep that in mind while you’re reading.

I realise also that it’s highly hypocritical of me to accept the help of Rylde, Fritz and others and then turn around and say this, but while I respect those players and their contributions I feel I have to write here, as I can see in Canada symptoms of problems that have plagued my own country for a very long time indeed.

The problems you have experienced are ones that we too as a country have felt. We've been through them in the past few years too, and quite frankly, it’s shocking that every time we gaze over the pond, something else has kicked up a storm. The frequency and intensity of these skirmishes, as I’m sure you would agree, have reached their peak recently.

What I would say, is that the events which lead to these arguments, the Political take overs, Bank thefts, bitter trolling matches, storms of the brown variety- We've had them all too, and the one thing which our community has always agreed upon during these dark events, are that they're a fate that damages eRepublik, not solely the country. It is somewhat reassuring that our historical 'cracks' have not resulted in the amount of poisonous damage which yours has, but this is not a reason to gloat. Rather, it is a reason for us to sympathise and work towards a better tomorrow for all of eRepublik.

To be blunt, over the past 12-18 months, you've been stolen from. Repeatedly. We know that pain; our entire military was stolen. We got some back, but the harrowing effect that had upon our national psyche left the scars which fan the furore over there. No longer do we hold people at their merit; if there is an inch of suspicion, there is no access. The first day of any new government is spent changing the locks on our property; the extent of our assets is so that there are 3-4 people who must spend hours completing this task. Newer players are left dismayed when cabinets are announced and they haven’t gotten near the sensitive positions, left to resent the very government they are then asked to support. Harrowing indeed.

Having your top parties continuously pillaged is also a pain we know, and understand. The pain of having your nations existence threatened by anyone or anything is not one that I think any citizen would wish upon you.

It is because of our somewhat similar 'baggage' that I write to you today. The UK has had awful spats on a scale similar to this one; I have experienced them myself, and quite frankly when things like this happen it's impossible for anyone to really 'win'. The whole situation you find yourself is not one we would wish for; yes it means we can beat you in wars occasionally now, but it is a heavy price to pay to see the destruction that you continue to tolerate, exacerbate and then instigate upon yourselves.

I guess the point I am making, in admittedly far too many words, is that whilst you find yourselves witnessing a blood bath; you have the my sympathies, my governments sympathies and most probably, most of our citizens sympathies too. Ultimately eRepublik is just a game. There is no real honour or victory in beating a country which is beating itself so viciously. You have my respect for your banter, your approach to fun and lulz and your ability to keep us engaged and interested in the war module. Without our wars, I probably wouldn't still be playing. So thank you for basically being pretty cool opponents, thank you for constantly pushing us to strive to improve, and most importantly, thank you for voting for the name 'Terra' as opposed to 'Mastercard Empire' in the PANAM naming vote last year. To have spent time in such an alliance would be a mortal blow to any nations sense of decency.

Signed with respect, and a strong hope for a swift and amicable end to your problems,

Talon Karrde,
Dirty redcoat dictator hell bent on eating your hamster.
