[TAP] What's in a Name

Day 2,039, 15:38 Published in USA USA by stewy

A name is something that we as humans give to all things; animals, ourselves, things we eat, what we drink... hell, we even named the stuff under our feet. Everything everywhere in the world has a name for it, and if it doesn't, we find something to call it regardless of whether it needs one or not. We do this so that whatever it is we're looking at, thinking about, or whatever else you want to call it has an identity. Ah identity... that which is the way we perceive something to be, what it stands for, and what that may or may not mean to us. Identities are powerful things... they take long to cultivate, and longer still to get comfortable with being that which you are perceived to be. Finding your own identity is a scary thing, and one which should not be taken lightly.

As a new PP in my current party, we have been going through our own search of identity. We took name suggestions from our membership, and then proceeded to take a party vote on the matter to decide what we should call our little group. Some wished to remain the same as we are, others chose to take upon a new identity and see what happens next. As for myself, I just sat by the wayside and watched with great interest to see many members that were so quiet in the days before the PP elections voicing an opinion on the party's future. Now don't get me wrong, I wished to be involved as much as everyone else that participated, but I found myself wanting to not influence the process in any way to ensure the fairness of the proceedings. I know many people have been wondering just what if anything we have been up to the last 4 days since the election... well, we've been working on reforming our identity. Our gdoc vote on what to call ourselves ends with a 16% turnout and a final tally of 56 votes being (34-16-5-1). Without further preamble, I am pleased to announce that we have chosen to continue on as.....

That's right... we've chosen to rename ourselves the Team America Party. I have to admit, I'm definitely amused at the name choice, but hey, it's a game and with the goals and ideals that seem to be prevalent amongst at least the vocal part of our group, the name fits nicely. When you are taking aim at improving the nation and standing side by side with those of like minds, what else would be fitting but Team America...

We've also established #TeamAmerica (our party's irc channel on Rizon server) as well as the Team America forum, and although it's still under construction, the basic functionality is ready so we can fully start moving forward and getting back to work. I know many people dislike forums in general, but I would still encourage our members to stop by and take a look around... even though atm it's not much to look at. Hopefully you'll notice changes from some of the others you may have visited that will prove just how serious we are about this chance to make our party stand apart.

As a final aside to those that have been popping in to troll and lol on our shout feeds b/c we're not in the T5, I have only 1 response...

Being in or out of the T5 will not shake our passion for change, nor our resolve to see it through. We are are here for the long haul.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead.

For all Team America members wanting to know how to get more involved... get active. Hit the shout feeds, drum up discussion ingame and on the forum, speak your minds, get a party job here http://tinyurl.com/krttku5, and finally, challenge yourself and this party to make all our e-lives better.

I don't normally link to other articles, but when young guys get excited about the job they just started doing, how can I not get behind that effort: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-tap-recruiting--2279620/1/20
