[MoE] - Use IRC!

Day 3,112, 08:50 Published in Ireland Ireland by University of Ireland

Hello Citizens,

IRC is used extensively by players of eRepublik as the best way to communicate with each other in real time (you have your ingame MU chat but sometimes it's just too exclusive). There are active IRC channels for most large organizations in eRepublik, especially governments. The Irish Army uses the #irisharmy channel to coordinate national strikes and special military operations.

Some players will tell you that you need to be active on IRC if you want to be fully immersed in eRepublik and get involved in strategy, government, and community. There are other ingame ways to communicate...some enjoy the game without ever using it, but we recommend you at least give it a try.

Let's cut to the chase. If you want to jump in and say hello or if your shout feed gets filled with "Ireland on IRC!" shouts. Do this:

STEP ONE:
Go to http://client01.chat.mibbit.com/

STEP TWO:
On the "Connect" dropdown menu, select Rizon.

STEP THREE:
Type your preferred nickname (consider something similar to your ingame name)

STEP FOUR:
type #irisharmy into the channel section

Isn't that nice?

Clearly the web interface is a bit clumsy, there are various desktop clients to choose from when you decide to cement your relationship with IRC.

Firefox Chatzilla (Here's Don Croata's user guide)
mIRC
IceChat
X-Chat2
Colloquy (for Mac users)

IRC's options and features are very extensive. You can see a detailed guide here. For starters, you should learn how to register your nickname, this is an important function which will protect your IRC identity.

Enjoy!
