April 28, 2016

Last article dealt with the basics of soldiering, and focused on developing your character as a fighter. This article will deal with the mechanics of war: campaigns and battles (rounds), offering guidance on how citizens should best fight in order to advance the interests of the Irish Republic.

In the Wars page, you'll see all campaigns taking place at the moment. First will appear campaigns fought directly by the country in which you are located (no matter what your citizenship is). Second, you'll see campaigns fought by that country's allies. Lastly, you'll see all the rest.

Every war between two sides is made up of a series of campaigns; in each campaign a country typically tries to conquer a single region from its enemy. The winner of a campaign conquers the region (or successfully defends the region) and wins the initiative. That means that the winner gets to attack next.

There are 4 types of campaigns:

War- The regular type of warfare, occurs whenever a country attack a neighboring country. It is important to remember that in order to fight in a campaign not involving your country of residence or its allies, you'll have to move (and that comes at a cost).

Airstrike (AS) - Same as above, this is still basically one country trying to take a region from an enemy. The difference is that airstrikes may be launched from anywhere to almost everywhere. The proximity condition is reversed, you can't AS a neighbor. If and when a country successfully "lands" in enemy territory it can open normal campaigns against bordering regions.

Resistance War (RW) - a country is trying to liberate an occupied region. You must be located in the occupying country to fight. Make sure you choose to fight for the right side (a question will pop up)

Dictatorship/Liberation - a special civil war scenario in which a faction in a country attempts to install or overthrow a dictator (not conquer regions). Be careful when getting involved in these, sometimes a dictatorship is sanctioned by the government itself as means of protection. Pay close attention to guidance from government officials and MU commanders. To fight you must relocate to the capital and join specific MUs which are participating.

Winning a Campaign

Each campaign is made up of 11-17 battles/rounds . As covered in the previous article, each of the 4 divisions fights its counterpart separately. Whenever a division wins a round, its country receives campaign points. The higher the division, the more points it's worth to the winning country.

So basically, the max number of campaign points a nation can win each round is 11. An exception to that are epic battles, which will be discussed in the next article. Rounds will continue until one country has reached 94 total points, it will then be declared winner of the campaign.

Winning a Battle

Battles last from anywhere between 1.5 to 2 hours. In the upper part of the combat view, you can see the control (or domination) bar, also known as "the wall".

Ireland's division 1 has 99% control 2:42 minutes into the round, giving it a 20 point lead.

This bar shows which division controls the battle, meaning mainly that the soldiers fighting on its side dealt more damage than their counterparts. Sometimes, there are other bonuses at play, but this is the gist of it. Whenever a division has control (More than 50😵 it will gain points for every minute passed according to the stage of the battle. To win a battle a division must reach 1800 points.

The next round will begin after all four divisional engagements have a winner.

So, How Do We Support the Irish War Effort?

1. Fight according to national priorities as published regularly by the Ministry of Defence. Not always does Ireland want to win the campaigns it's fighting, sometimes it is much more important to help an ally, and occasionally losing a region is essential to national security. Shout in your MU (Military Unit) feed if you want a more detailed explanation of the situation.

2. At the beginning of your e-life, stay available on Irish soil, don't spend money on moving, the army will provide you with moving tickets if the situation warrants it.

3. Controlling the first hour of the round may cause the other side to give up. However, The second hour hands out much more points, advantages could be lost fairly quickly, pay attention to all stages of each round.

4. Whenever a country reaches 55% control in battle it's not effective to "overkill the wall" by continuing to deal more and more damage. It's preferable to save energy and wait for a new round.

5. Whenever a campaign is in complete control by a single country (campaign lead is bigger than 40), it is best to fight elsewhere, according the the MoD secondary prios, if available.

6. "Guerilla Fights" is a mini-game of sorts which can be played during battles. You'll see a bouncing icon on the battlefield page, luring you in, sooner or later. It has "some" influence on the overall results of the primary battle but it is in no way cost effective for the Irish war effort. Indulge in it if you'd like, although doctors warn that it might cause permanent brain damage.

7. When all of the MoD prioritized campaigns are already decided, it is time to focus on personal ambitions. Our next article will discuss fighting for gold and glory.
