[MDP] And Rolo Nowhere In Sight

Day 1,850, 19:10 by Muglack

As some of you know there's been another theft in eCanada.

Recently the gold holdings in the Org that was used to fund our MUs have been stolen and no one knows who did it, or where they went. This of course leaves us with a great quandary. Not "who would do such a thing" but rather, "How did Rolo do it?".

Let me explain.

For the past 3 months we have been told by a certain group of political parties, for simplicity's sake let's call them the "Axis of Boredom", that the people of eCanada need to support them because it's the only way to keep us safe from the monsters that hide under our beds. They told us that if we didn't elect them they wouldn't be able to protect us from the evil Rolo and his dastardly Coalition who's only reason to exist was to steal the country's treasury and make off with all of our hard won gold. So people did just that.

They voted for the "approved candidate" of the Axis of Boredom for 3 months in a row. In those 3 months we saw our MPP stack wiped, we saw our treasury dwindle, and we saw ourselves completely removed from the map resulting in no Congress for the month of November.

Yet still they held up a picture of the boogieman and told you, "Vote for us, or the worst will happen!" and still the people of eCanada supported them.

They supported the PTO of independent parties under the pretense of removing a threat. They campaigned against and maligned players that were unwilling to bend to their pressure. They used rumors and assumptions to hand out labels that undermined the people who they accused of doing the very things they attacked others for not aiding them with. "It's ok that we do it, because we're not them" became a common sentiment.

All of this under the assumption that the eCanadian people needed to be protected, and saved. They did what they did because if they were in power we wouldn't be victim to the most base of trespasses that can happen in this game. With them in power we would never have to worry about a theft.

Well guess what. They were wrong.

4 days ago eCanada was robbed. 199 Gold has simple vanished. Reports are coming forward that people saw the gold offers on the monetary markets, but at the time didn't put the pieces together. I was approached today by 3 different people asking if I knew anything, and if Congress was already talking about it.

I told them it was the first I heard. No one has brought it up in Congress, and as far as I know no one has been given a single piece of information from the President.

But none of that really matters. The money is gone, we probably won't get it back. At this point it's fruitless to point at individuals or single players and demand retribution or answers.

A password was stolen, or went unchanged, and someone lacking the most basic of morals took advantage for their own gain. It happens. It's why all of our doors have locks on them. Sadly it's a fact of life.

But maybe that "Axis of Boredom" which promised so much and has delivered so little will finally be shown in the light some of us have seen it in for a long time.

Building your success and justifying your actions the way you did is not acceptable in the least. I hope that the general public will finally see you for what you are. Fallible, imperfect, and in many ways more guilty of the crimes you lay at the feet of your victims then they are.

This is what happens when someone steals gold. MDP being here or not here has nothing to do with it.

Did the "Axis of Boredom" steal the money? No, it was one person. The theft is not the party's fault.

But this loose form of government allowed it to happen.

Easy solution: Executive Order more Gold into the Org. Fill'er back up and problemo solved.

Now on to other things that save the day and whatnot, hi'ho silver and away!
(fun fact about thieves is that their presence anticipates the arrival of superheroes and whatnot...looks like MDP is posturing for that role ~ all the best with that, fellers)

Attempting to rewrite the past are you?

What stupid system did you guys put into place when I left offices in Canada? It used to be only one person had access, so why did that change?

Randall Flagg 1999
Randall Flagg 1999 Day 1,850, 20:48

Well, I agree with most of the this article, especially the part about us being fallible. I don't think I ever made the CPF out to be infallible.

As to the matter at hand, Foxfire has so far provided enough a good start in terms of information to get to the bottom.

While I believe that there is still suspicion on his part, I can understand his delay in informing congress to do some quick fact finding to avoid an unnecessary witch hunt.

Plugson
Plugson Day 1,850, 20:48

Ete ~ when Wally was able to contact the Admins to gain access to the Org and fake a theft...it seemed to indicate the Comptroller method had a flaw in it.

Besides, did they even reset the password after Mihai left? Which CP reset the password? As usual, there are too many keys to the vault....

Randall Flagg 1999
Randall Flagg 1999 Day 1,850, 20:49

That said, until we have all the facts, I find it hard to blame one person. But I will concede that the immediate three suspects are Mihai, EPD and Foxfire.

I find it sad that they are wrapped up in this, but until more information comes in, I would rather not presume guilt.

guilty and then innocent is how it seems to be done in these parts

Wilhelm Gunter
Wilhelm Gunter Day 1,850, 21:02

the truth is, the Comptroller position - insofar as the security it is suppose to provide against a potential presidential theft - is an illusion. The admins will always defer to the office of CP, to which all the national orgs belong. If the CP says the org is hacked or lost, the admins will resent the password for the CP.

Etemenanki
Etemenanki Day 1,850, 21:06

Plug: Not entirely true, there were only two options at the time, the comptroller or the CP. That's a prwtty shallow suspect pool I think. As to the changing of passwords, if your comptroller wasn't changing passwords often, then he should be replaced and it doesn't speak well on them.

So what system has been in use, and what has the admins said so far?

crisfire
crisfire Day 1,850, 21:55

thats what happens when shit sits there

an org should be a revolving door and everything else should sit in the treasury

Plugson

Crisfire, spoken like a former herd member you are (meant with respect):

Second, stop maintaining pots of wealth in orgs that get robbed. Maintain the nation’s treasury in the Treasury. The only way to get the money out of the treasury is by a successful motion voted on my congress.

crisfire
crisfire Day 1,850, 22:11

who the heck is Mihai anyway?

why would a virtually unknown be given keys to the cadillac.

and now a 4 month old is the new comptroller...no offense Bryan but I wouldnt approve a comptroller unless they have been at this game for at least a year or even two and been above board

anyone remember Matthew Gallagher and his charasmatic multi's that win you over

"Second, stop maintaining pots of wealth in orgs that get robbed. Maintain the nation’s treasury in the Treasury. "

Gold can't get donated back to the treasury once it's out, it's out and there's nothing you can do about it.

Exalted Druid
Exalted Druid Day 1,851, 02:07

If only 2 people could have seen the org. How come everyone in the MDP knows about this?

Exalted Druid
Exalted Druid Day 1,851, 02:55

"Reports are coming forward that people saw the gold offers on the monetary markets, but at the time didn't put the pieces together."

What does this mean? Anyone can see gold offers, It is not that hard, there are 1000's of them. I made some. Are you saying that one of the persons with access made a 199 gold offer? That is what you are insinuating. Say what you mean. You write 200 words of MDP propaganda and leave out any actual facts.

Zappie
Zappie Day 1,851, 03:31

I can answer the last question:

Saw the listing from our org "Canadian Ministry of Finance":

http://www.erepublik.com/en/economy/citizen-accounts/1393239

It was around 02:00 eRep time, apparently on day 1842 (according to eCan forums).

I assumed it was in preparation for trading gold to try make some money for our treasury, or possibly to accumulate CC for MU funding, but apparently it wasn't.

Leo Balzac
Leo Balzac Day 1,851, 04:51

Hilarious.

Leo Balzac
Leo Balzac Day 1,851, 06:28

also @ Rigour and Pimp:
to say that this theft has a direct correlation to the pardoning of Rolo requires a massive leap in logic. Could be those butthurt coloured glasses you guys are wearing? anyway, you're not in eCan anymore. so there's nothing for you to worry about. enjoy your irrelevance in the eUS.

Venerable
Venerable Day 1,851, 08:12

Exalted Druid: Lol. What? We aren't blaming anyone for stealing it. We're saying that thefts aren't something that you guy can "avoid." The point is that the "good and friendly" CPs are elected on the premise of a "safer" place for eCanada. This incident should prove to the masses that MDP isn't a bad guy either. Thefts happen on anyone's watch. Sure, a certain CP not changing the password didn't help, but we don't know who "stole" it.

Venerable
Venerable Day 1,851, 08:15

Exalted Druid: as for seeing the gold, it's simple. If you go to the Monetary Market, you can see people selling gold. This includes their name. This name shows up even when being sold from a National Org, our treasury included.

As for how we know about it, we were all on IRC because Rylde was hosting a times strike, when someone happened to look at the funds and remark.

Venerable
Venerable Day 1,851, 08:17

The reason the article isn't naming people, is because we aren't playing a blame game. It's possible that someone else stole the money. We don't know how, but its possible.

It's only 199 gold. Not enough for a legit witch hunt.

EtzeL the Hun
EtzeL the Hun Day 1,851, 08:33

vote+sub good job

@Zappie, the gold was transferred I believe for a "merc" fund that was never used

Leo Balzac
Leo Balzac Day 1,851, 09:19

Not sure Addy. Maybe he was still a little hurt after you stabbed him in the back over the Romanian (I believe it was romanian) PTO affair.
