[IRC&Forums]Community IRC OPs

Day 2,375, 07:30 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Butjam

Afternoon ladies and gents, luckily for you all I’m using up some of my valuable birthday time to faff about with this article to address some short issues about general community stuff. Expect this to be a mercifully short article.

Forum cleaning and changes
Not much to be said here at all really. Currently the forums look like a bit of a state and are even difficult for me to navigate at the moment. With that in mind we’re hopefully going to reduce the number of main boards that ordinary members see down to three or four, some outdated board moderators will be reduced and overall we should have a nice sparkly layout. To go along with this, once exams are finished, I plan to shift into gear and write up a small tutorial on how to get the best out of your forum experience including how to hide boards that you don’t care about from your unread posts, so goodbye to constant Minecraft updates for most of you!
In slightly grumpier news, I’d just like to point out that the “Access Requests” subforum is going to be more stringently moderated, every time someone prats about we get half a dozen reports which we then have to clean up and we’re a little bored, so you’ll be given moderated postings straightaway. If you’re concerned about us being pricks with punishment, feel free to check our Public Ban Log where we list the who’s and why’s of bans that we (rarely) distribute.

Community IRC OPs
Here’s the biggie and the reason I’m putting this out. As most regular users of IRC must surely know, the forums also have a counterpart ‘official’ UK IRC channel at #euk on the Rizon server. We’ve had some reports of people being less than mature with their access powers on there and the list itself is terribly odd anyway so I’ve decided to clean it up sensibly, despite the protests from certain Scottish elements <_> The access list for #euk will rea😛

1.Kumnaa-9999 (I can’t change this obviously, plus Kumnaa is glorious emperor so it’s only reasonable)
2. Butjam-9900 (Gotta’ keep up my big pimpin’ rep, innit)
3. Forum moderators-999 (The usual ragtag bunch of global moderators, a bunch of guys I trust and who couldn’t care less about getting in the middle of petty little fights thankfully)
4. Country President-10 (Keeping the President with admin access is a necessity)
5. CP’s representatives-9 (A couple people available to speak on the CP’s behalf, e.g. MoD, MoFa, vCP. Chosen at CP’s discretion although I’d ask for no more than 2 or 3, please)
6. Community IRC Ops x3-5

As such, the list will reflect the totalitarian nature of the forums for the purposes of administration and getting rid of tosspots with access but from the CP down should theoretically be people the majority of the community is happy with. A fairly long list but only 3/4 should need to be changed each term, which means that we have consistent and fair moderation. The Community IRC OPs (Christ that takes ages to type, from now on they are CIRCOPs) are going to be elected by the citizens of the UK so if they mess up I can shrug my shoulders and blame you lot instead. I was initially going to go with 5, but I’ve been advised 3 is sufficient. The responsibilities are simply to watch the channel, ban spambots, annoying users and ne’erdowells. Pretty easy stuff. Anyway, the way that we’ll get them sorted out is nominations in the comments (feel free to nominate yourself) and in a day or two I’ll open up a vote in a forum thread. Everybody will get three votes, provided that there’s not too many nominees one round of voting should be enough. CIRCOPs will have level 5 access, so are at the bottom of the rung, but will hopefully be doing the majority of policing in there.

The forum staff reserve the right to veto and/or remove and replace any CIRCOP at any time, for any reason including but not limited to; being a tosser, being a twazzock, mucking about, getting on our nerves or an excuse to drag people over to the forums for another vote to make us all feel important.

Right, that should be about done, especially seeing as I am keen to go and enjoy the rest of my birthday that wasn’t stolen away by a 4 hour long training session on ‘Social Compliance’. Christ. Anyway, come join in on the IRC network, #euk on the Rizon server or come signup at the forums http://forums.erepublik.co.uk/. We’ve often been accused of being a hidey-hole for the elites, if you want to change that then signup is available to all. Please note, for the purpose of spam protection you will need to solve a CAPTCHA for your first 5 posts but after that you’re all square and squeaky clean. It’d be our pleasure to have more people come and join in. Please leave CIRCOP nominations in the comments and keep an eye out for the voting thread.

Hugs and kisses
Benovelent and mildly competent forum vice-overlord,
