[Guide] Political Parties

A Political Party is a way for players to organise and coordinate their votes in Congress and Country President elections. There is only one feature which joining a Party opens up for you, this is being able to run for Congress.
You can see the list of Parties by pressing Community -> Rankings -> Parties.
Many players choose not to join a Political Party as there are no guaranteed benefits to doing so unless you can win Congress every month. You do not need to be a Party one to vote for one. However you joining a Political Party does benefit the Party, as only the Top 5 Parties ranked by membership can run candidates for Congress. So just by joining you can make a difference to how the UK is governed.
Keep an eye out for Newspaper Articles from each Political Party and if you do join one, send a mail to the Party President so that they can tell you about which Forums, Channels and Newspapers to join.
Most Political Parties are just different cliques of players with different personalities/atmosphere. The Government is a coalition headed by a President supported by several Parties and unlike real life could have Ministers from all Parties. Parties are much looser groups in eRepublik.
The Orientation listed on the Party page tends to be what the majority of the members belive in real life, "Left Wing" and "Right Wing" do not translate well to the game. Some Parties just put "Centre" so show that it isn't relevant to them and some put joke Orientations. Basically ignore these unless you think that you can't play along side Conservative voters!
For example we have two "Centre-Right, Libertarian" Parties in the UK at the moment who believe completely different things about how the game version of the UK should be run. I would like to make some sense of the actual in game political differences between parties for you, so I think that an eRepublik version of the real life Orientations is needed.
I propose the following; this is my own interpretation and understanding, but I am interested to know what other players think about this in the comments:
Economical Orientation
How satisfied a Party is with the current Government system and how militant they are in defending/attacking it. For example they may want radical changes and are quite vocal about it.
Far-Left - Totally dissatisfied, very militant in opposition.
Center-Left - Somewhat dissatisfied, active and vocal in opposition
Center - Tries to work with everyone and is open to ideas from either side.
Center-Right - Somewhat satisfied. Active and vocal in support.
Far-Right - Totally resistant to change.
Social Orientation
How many rules and regulations a Party has and how strict their enforcement is. For example they may tell you who to vote/fight for or how to use your Citizenship passes if in Congress.
Totalitarian - Lots of rules and harsh enforcement.
Authoritarian - Many rules and strict enforcement.
Libertarian - Some rules and light enforcement.
Anarchist - No rules at all.
This is a list of the Top 6 Political Parties in the UK at the moment ordered by the amount of members they have in reverse to try and avoid bias.
Some of you may be interested in joining a Political Party but don't know which to choose. Some of you may choose not to join one or not be in a Top 5 Party and are wondering who to vote for in the Congress election tomorrow.
I am just going to present the informtion about each one and leave the decision to you, choose the Party which fits your in game beliefs and has players which you enjoy playing with. Also consider that smaller Parties may have more room for you to get your views heard or move up the rankings quickly.

This guide was written by Goku Jones, New Era Party Spokesman.

To quickly sum up what we are about, New Era is about exploring new options and methods for the future of the UK and not necessarily following the olds ways which have gone before.

What is this?
You are reading an article written by a citizen of eRepublik, an immersive multiplayer strategy game based on real life countries. Create your own character and help your country achieve its glory while establishing yourself as a war hero, renowned publisher or finance guru.
Again, PM corrections to me if you are a Party President and you feel that I got something wrong.
Game Orientations are my opinion and I did push some out slightly so that everyone had a different one.
If you have a better system please share it and I may just edit it in!

Please take everything Goku writes at face value : 3
Yeah it's in the comment right above the one you just posted. Are you a bat person?
Voted

You forgot crackerjack. Stu Francis is not happy!
der ner ner ner ner ner ner ner ner ner, QUIET BAT PEOPLE
Please stop buying 100 votes for all of your artices q_q
Snugz, we should elect Goku as a fourth sector pathfinder
Voted and enjoyed, Great article. And if people want to comment on brought votes for articles can they do it on ALL articles with brought votes and not just one persons \o/
voted, and agreed, buying votes as a positive side for many of you: I don't publish any article
Inquiry into vote buying!
Hugh/Alphabethis - it's nice to see New Era supports elitist practices in the media xD
'And if people want to comment on brought votes for articles can they do it on ALL articles with brought votes and not just one persons'
If only I had the time.
Funny how it seems to be the same handful of people every time however...
>Call TUP a nazi party
>Work with people who are genuine RL BNP members
Nice try Goku, but people see through your crap. Buying 200 votes for an article essentially calling your opponents Nazis to try and do slightly better at congress is particularly low, even for you.
Try making some positive article about what YOUR party has to offer, instead of just attacking others all the time. P pathetic.
1) I am denied a voice on the eUK Forums because the elite do not like what I have to say, therefore I take extra steps in game to be heard.
2) I am showing that a forum government is not adequate and is powerless to act in some situations. This prompts the government to move off the forum to confront me.
3) Stop starting flame wars in guides aimed at new players. Make your own article about vote buying and we can discuss there.
Iain:
I don't belive that I have called any party "nazis" and I am fairly sure that there are none in New Era, the reason I am not in UKPP may just be because it is led by a IRL BNP member.
I just spent alot of time writing part of a positive article about New Era which will be published soon.
You are denied for breaking the game rules- multi-accounting and theft of property
No I was banned before that as you know.
> Far-Right - Totally resistant to change.
Unless your counting the Nazis as Ultra-Right this is wrong as they definitely changed the government system in 1930s Germany. And they are only on the Far-Right by dint of being vehemently opposed to Communism, which is termed Far-Left, whereas both are Totalitarian & Militant in equal measure, and both took private enterprises under state-control.
And I certainly hope the UKPP are not Centre-Left as I'm a RL Conservative [Thatcherite] and left the Left-leaning TUP Family MU on May 1st
Read the 1/3rd of the article where I explain that please.
"New Era... Far-Left - Totally dissatisfied, very militant in opposition."
I lol'd... Apart from that pretty accurate I would say.
Vote New Era Tomorrow
I'll ignore all that^ and try something that is relevant.
UKPP is defined as Centre-right. This position is selected as its our belief the eRep necessatates a socialist agenda in order to be able to thrive in the game.
All parties offer varying levels of support, guidance and social programs we take the view that on the far-left you have the pure communes where its minimum wage and your development is directed from above.
On the far-right you have a freer system where only the basic tools are the citizen must rise or fall on his decisions and abilities.
The UKPP provides the commune infrastructure but with a freer wage base and all products are delivered as 'earnt' and 'collectivism ends here and the Player is then free to develop their citizen in whichever manner they then see fit to suit their own agenda.
Therefore we consider ourselves to the right of the centre.
It seems that Alfagrem knows the true meaning of left and right.
When I look at his definition TUP is centre left. TUP is not totalitarian at all. Our party is organised democratically and we believe that CP elections and congress elections is the base of the system we want.
We support some rules, but we do not support strict rules. So we are libertarian.
TUP is Topped up , that is, elitism by definition.
Alfagrem has interesting ideas, I may have a chat with him and use his version in future.
TUP is still Authoritarian though, sorry.
You'd have to ask the TUP members "Who makes the rules and the policy/vague goals?" to know if they are 'authoritarian' an oligarcy, elites, etc...etc...usual stuff.
I hear mention of some conference they had - Was it inclusive, how was it organised, how were invites to attend made, was there any option for non-attendees to be heard as well as can policy be changed, how, how oftern do they canvas for opinion?
^Applies to all parties
I also disagree with your congress call;
Based on previous election each party should be guaranteed;
Unity - 11
Progress - 8
New Era - 5
ESO - 5
Reform - 3
The remaining 7 seats are decided by the players outside the Top5 parties (PCP accounting for half that total).
Unity have been PMing other parties for votes and PCP are likely to split for TUP or New Era and with the #1 Factor TUP have...
Unity - 14*
Progress - 8*
New Era - 7
ESO - 6
Reform - 3
Possible extra seat on %
Unity/Reform+ESO to control congress (aside from Impeachment proposals)
Bit more in depth than mine, we will see tomorrow
eScience!
TUP are also mass PMing Top 5 Parties. They entrusted this task to MagicHereos who tried to recruit myself and King Hannibal.
Sidebar: I'm glad to see they've moved away from the old "you're not allowed to PM members in other parties" approach.
If your party is top-notch then you have no worries and if another group can offer one of your members a happier place to be then we all get a happy, productive, clicking eUKer.
Agreed with Alfagrem.
Keers...it was only a few days ago one of your TUP senior figures was accusing us of being facists
Pot, kettle, black my good man
'Far-Left - Totally dissatisfied, very militant in opposition.' Rock on!
We started PMing others when our members were PMed by Don Dapper, as Goku's screenshot referred to.
I think it's ok to PM people in your MU lol
Not if the MU is meant to be open to all, and the PM says otherwise.
Not looking to blame anyone or figure out 'who started it' as I think its a good thing that this is now happening.
