[Drama] How I learned to stop worrying and love the game.

Day 1,787, 11:41 by Goku Jones

Q7 Factories. Q4 Training Centres. Q5 rockets. Let's all start to throw racial slurs about Romanians around and try and out do each other on how much we hate the game.

The eUK culture of bullying is at it's height when it's directed against the people running the game who can't respond. The truth is that this is just a mask for the lazy, the untalented and the troll to explain away why their character is so weak or poor.

Throughout this article I will post the relativly low stats of some "beloved" eUK elite players, most having join dates in 2009. See if you can guess who they are, some are easier and some are harder.

The first one is mine and I too used to be like them, but with one year following the philosphy I post in this and other articles I now have pretty respectable stats. If you find your profile looking like these travesties, it's not too late to change like I did!

Someone has to pay for this game.
The servers and staff needed to run eRepublik cost money, then a little profit is needed (like in any buisness) to make people want to continue doing it.

This is a fact and all the cries of "greedy <censored>" and "this game is crap" doesn't help pay for a single thing, infact it makes a bad atmosphere and causes the new players to leave and making matters worse.

Chill out and calm down.

You don't need that much gold anyway.
I actually only pay about 1g a day to do maximum Q4 training because I get a Super Soldier Medal once every 3 days from it. Wealth breeds Wealth. Once you get a lump sum of gold to set yourself up with some profit making companies you really don't need much to keep it going.

Only people wanting to solo turn the tide of battles on a regular basis have to buy gold in huge quantities regularily. A well organised country can compensate for them.

We all get free gold.
Everyone makes at least 10g a month naturally from medals. 15-25g isn't a big stretch if you pick up a few of the other easier medals too like Congressman, Patriot, Mercenary or Battle Hero.

Someone with a few years in the game should be over 500g just from playing the game. Newbies can be buying training centre upgrades or factories almost right away.

You don't have to buy Gold to get rich.
I see alot of you talking about your GCSE and A Level results every summer, so many of you reading this will be students. Spend some of your enormous quantities of free time recruiting other people to the game. You must have other interests or other games you play so get your refferal link out there.

It takes some effort and some smarts to place your link on the right forum but many of us have managed it. When I get snide comments from nasty and weak players I always like to think of how their intelligence and popularily which they bang on so much about can't match my 8 Society Builder Medals which I got from a weeks work back in 2009.

My refferals account for a fair few hundred gold invested in my character. I was able to get some Q5 companies back when they where the best without buying any Gold, just what I had from refferals and the normal free gold we all get.

Why not buy Gold anyway?
Last year I realised that I had spent 3 years and tons of time in eRepublik, I had gotten a great deal of fun and entertainment out of it.

A few hundred pounds had gone into my World of Warcraft account subscriptions and expansions. I dropped ~£40 on boxed games and a good indie game could cost £5-£20. A pint down the pub could cost £4 where I lived.

Some of you will not be students (like me) and not able to sink time into finding refferals. I had a well paid job so I put about £100 into eRepublik and I haven't had to buy gold since. If you have spent a significant amount of time here then why not pay for it and get a nice boost?

But this game is crap!
Some of my friends who PTOed North Korea and Japan in eRepublik a few years ago went to PTO South Korea in eSim2 last month. They won, I helped out and I was one of their congressmen. They have set up a great country and are doing very well.

I quit. I prefer eRepublik. I like THIS game.

I won't do a game review here but one of the reasons I like it is because it's the biggest MMOSSG so I want all of you reading this to stay and play it, but if you cry regularily that the game is crap... why don't you just leave?

If you like the people/community here then just stay on the forums with them. Don't drag the whole eUK into the forum with you though so that you can still feel important.

Let's get the optimistic forward thinking people in charge who enjoy the game and leave these weak complainers in the dust.

Talon Karrde
Talon Karrde Day 1,787, 11:49

Awww, I wanted you to do me : (

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 11:53

Hey fairs fair, some of the "elite" have quite good characters too. Even some of the especially horrible ones like Dan Moir.

I get utterly disgusted when I see the likes of some of the ones I have linked in this article getting special treatment when they hardly play the actual game though.

Carlini8 Day 1,787, 12:01

There is more than one way to play the game. You say it yourself, it is very rare for one person to make a massive amount of difference in a battle and country coordination is much more important. It takes people to do that.

HOWEVER, I am also a big beliber in helping people out to get their strength as high as possible. In the past I have handed out gold loans during training ground sales so people can push up their Q of training.

Carlini8 Day 1,787, 12:01

Also, get a higher mili rank

Dan Moir
Dan Moir Day 1,787, 12:02

You're like way older than me and yet have comparably awful stats. That must really suck.

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 12:03

>Playing the game
>Having high military stats

There is more to the game than clicking 240 times a day you know.

Invalidation Day 1,787, 12:04

gsfdgfs Day 1,787, 12:09

light yagami?

Ergo Deus
Ergo Deus Day 1,787, 12:18

I'm not in there? But I'm the oldiest of oldfags.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:20

My problem Iain is that while you guys are doing all your fancy forum stuff which you tell us is useful but seems to have little in game effect, you could log into the game once a day to work/train/fight?

If what you do doesn't put some strength points on your characters then what on earth are you doing and what is the point of it? It doesn't matter if you get us an alliance with a country through diplomatic work if our citizens can't do any damage so they then decide to drop us.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:21

Iain, you are a good example of "argh I hate this game" when you refuse to train and post endless whine articles about the game dying. I want you playing eRepublik in the UK but if you don't like the game then please quit and leave us in peace.

It would be nice if someone who actually wants to play took over your job as it would keep them entertained and active.

Invalidation Day 1,787, 12:24

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 12:28

Well I do work some 230 times a day Goku, I guess the fact that when I was CP I paid 1.6 million pounds of my own money towards defending the UK was my "contribution", and the thirty thousand or so guns I donated during our crisis probably outweighed the individual damage I could potentially have done instead.

I complain about the changes because that's what you do when you don't like a change. Anyone who just rolls over when they're screwed has something wrong with them.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:32

I haven't been screwed. I paid for all of the training centre upgrades except maybe Q2 (memory is fuzzy) without buying gold.

The fact is Iain that you stopped training & fighting and spread bad vibes, you are half the player I remember from the good old days. I had ALOT of respect for you until this year. I want the old Iain back.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:33

It's nice that you can pay for the UK during your terms Iain, but it would be even better if you had put in place ways for the UK to pay for itself so that your sucsessors aren't totally screwed.

Really making the UK totally dependant on you isn't a great long term strategy, especially when you bugger off to Poland.

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 12:35

Egotism at it's best. You've always been an "I'm alright Jack" kind of player Goku, that's why I call you a sociopath. Just because you (and obviously me) can afford to buy something doesn't mean everyone is in that position. I have an objection to a new player having to spend hundreds of euros to be able to simply keep up. Even people exceptionally economically minded (or with multis ahem) struggle right now to get infrastructure built up, and if you didn't notice virtually everyone agrees.

Dr Hugh Jardon
Dr Hugh Jardon Day 1,787, 12:36

*Yawn* Not at you Goku but Invalidation...nowt to add and cant moderate these comments so reverts to type.

Anyway, great article and fully agreed.

DaJoXTeR Day 1,787, 12:37

you have a really low strength for your age.

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 12:38

The UK (and every other country) is making shit all money precisely because of changes in the game- that's why I object to the changes. Btw my physical presence doesn't signify anything. I'm still as attached to the UK as I have been throughout my life, and continue to support them. What citizenship I happen to hold makes no difference, especially since I don't fight anyway. I would much prefer the UK to be self-sufficient, but the admins ruined that idea for all countries.

Talon Karrde
Talon Karrde Day 1,787, 12:38

Did you really have to buy votes?

Invalidation Day 1,787, 12:38

DaJoXTeR Day 1,787, 12:39

And your spelling fails tbph,

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 12:39

Btw that's rich considering you have almost 50m true patriot damage for the USA, our enemies. I might have a 0 damage count for True Patriot, but you're on -25 million right now.

Frerk Day 1,787, 12:40

So you're trying to say that I should care about ingame stats and spend gold?
No thanks.

Dr Hugh Jardon
Dr Hugh Jardon Day 1,787, 12:43

Forums and IRC must be boring tonight...they're out in force \o/

WayneKerr Day 1,787, 12:44

The game requires little intelligence and compared to others available on the internetz is very boring. There's two ways to enhance the play-ability of the game. Sink time into and get involved in your party or your MU (there will always be stuff for the semi-intelligent to do) or pull out your/Daddys credit card from an early age and invest wisely.

I did both, and still find it boring. Having sunk actual cash into the game, I'm free to complain all I like.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:53

I freely admit that my strength could and should be higher, it is still a respectable amount though. I did have a year or so of inactivity because of IRL and I was a crappy forum only player until I snaped out of it. You guys can snap out of it too.

Cygnus X1
Cygnus X1 Day 1,787, 12:54

Goku, it's a lot, not alot. You don't say alittle, do you?

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:55

What I'm trying to say here is that you DON'T have to sink tons of IRL cash into this to do well. Iain says "hundreds" but I'm at £100 and thats after 4 years and being at the top end of strength gain.

Diablo 3 cost me about £50 and I played that for a couple of weeks. I think eRepublik at 4 years is worth 2-3 box games like Diablo 3. It's certaintly worth a tenner to buy a starter company like what some of you spent on Minecraft, then you can build up using gold gains from within the game.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 12:56

If you are young or a student then get some refferals. I did. If you look down on me so much then why can't you elite forums guy do what I did?

I think the spammers and grammer nazis trying to derail are a little pathetic but I guess that is the eUK forum game. I play the eRepublik game and I wish that you would too!

mwcerberus Day 1,787, 13:13

Not keen on you posting people's profiles trying to single people out who work very hard for the UK
but your overriding principal is correct the admins do need money the Q5 rocket factory's are taking advantage of people who have more money than sense as for the training grounds young players shouldn't expect to keep up with people who have been playing this game for years and they shouldn't expect to keep up with people willing to shovel loadsamoney into the game. Prefer the economist tho

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 13:19

Well I'm not sure what most of the people I posted actually do, I didn't intend to post hardworking people.

Nobody was named!

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 13:25

You started in a different time. Please make your next article "how to start tomorrow and get to level 4 training grounds". Do the maths and tell me how to do it without spending RL money, I'd be very interested to hear it.

Betafoxtrot Day 1,787, 13:46

I'm pretty sure Woldy already did an article by this title. Also yay me at being a beloved eUK Elite

Carlini8 Day 1,787, 13:48

Sadly unless you buy gold now a days or invite 1000 people, or a gold buyer, you are not going to get in to a good position quickly. That is where us more wealthy people have to come in.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 13:52

Oh quick note on the USA damage on my profile!

I was there for the maximum resource bonus to level my character up from a forum weakling to an ingame beast, so again it is possible for us to change our ways if we are led astray by the forum elite.

I did 40 million damage for the USA in almost a year. I've been back in the UK for a week or so and done 20 million damage for us. Hmm...

Betafoxtrot Day 1,787, 13:53

I have higher rank points, does this mean I play the game more than you or not?

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 13:54

There are things we can do to help Carlini through education and investment, you seem to have a pretty good grasp of that though!

The future of the UK is in good hands with players like yourself rising through the ranks.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 14:01

Beta that means that I put my income into strength training and sometimes didn't have enough left over to fight with weapons. So I had high strength increases but low rank increases.

You put yours into weapons to rank up and didn't do much strength training. So you had high rank increases but low strength increases.

The difference is that it's easy to catch up on rank points and I'll overtake you soon. It's difficult to catch up on strength points so it's impossible for you to overtake me.

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 14:01

So I buggered off to Poland (an allied nation)

Whereas you went to USA (enemy) to help the UK?

Nice logic. Btw the only difference between Carlini and any of the other guys you're slagging off is age. We're all players who have focused on other aspects of the game than purely fighting, and without people doing that the whole military aspect would be irrelevant. Through his economy stuff Carlini supplies the whole of Legion. His stats are mostly immaterial.

Dan Moir
Dan Moir Day 1,787, 14:03

107th in UK for military rank points. So inactive. Hardly an "ingame beast".

There are players with a third of your strength with much more rank points.

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 14:04

Basically Beta you chose an ineffective strategy to improve yourself and I chose an effective one. I fear how many players you have led astray down the road of your example.

Iain the difference is that you had a choice! Also I origonally moved to supply the UK with cheap weapons with the governments blessing. You still fail to realise that you can be a political or economic player and still train and/or fight. Lots of my health is used up on companies too you know.

Talon Karrde
Talon Karrde Day 1,787, 14:05

Speaking of the USA stuff, when you gonna pay me back the loan? : D

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 14:06

Hey Dan I know I have low rank points. They are easy to catch up on. I focused my income on strength which you can't catch up on. I explained in the comment above your comment, please read it!

Dan Moir
Dan Moir Day 1,787, 14:09

You shouldn't be playing catch up if you're such an old, experienced, "ingame beast". Why don't you invest in the game as you recommended everyone else do and start catching up right now?

Iain Keers
Iain Keers Day 1,787, 14:12

All my choices are the result of actions I've taken in the game. I've invested in more than just companies, but personal relationships are pretty alien to you.

Go back a couple of articles and you're boasting about how you've screwed over people and countries. Well done with that, you've also screwed the UK a few times and cheated a lot of people out of money. Oh and you keep making multi accounts.

Such an example to us all, a cheating player who screws over everyone silly enough to listen

Goku Jones
Goku Jones Day 1,787, 14:17

Dan, if I spend my income on Strength I do more Damage, so short term my Rank will suffer if I can't also afford Weapons. If I do more Damage then I get more Rank Points when I fight. So long term I will catch up anyway.

Since joining Bulldogs I now have a supply for Q7 weapons just for fighting so my Rank Points will shoot up now and do so faster than they would have otherwise because I invested in Strength. I AM catching up now!

You can't catch up on Strength so I did the right thing.

Niemand Day 1,787, 14:18

Oh I am a real bad player. I didn't use my gold on training centres, but on food companies to supply others. Now I am weak. No use to UK I think. Maybe I better quit game. Oh I am so sorry.

Goku Jones who published our secrets to our enemies, who fought for our enemies, who is always attacking others we should trust to be the one bringing UK to the top.
At least he has enough money to buy votes.

Carlini8 Day 1,787, 14:19

If we can focus on upping our strength as a nation (be that gold loans for training grounds), upping rank points via higher supplies and upping activity by funding fun strikes then surely we can all push forwards together instead of always putting each other down.
