[CP] France-United Kingdom Renting Agreement [DEBATE]

Day 3,008, 15:53 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by 10 Downing Street

Since I became President, we have held several meetings with the French authorities to try and reach a deal in regards to the occupation of the UK. Together with Aaron Mark Daniels and Paul Tyndale, I've held many discussions with France on this very issue. And, after a week of tough debating, we've reached a deal. The negotiations didn't go smooth - we pulled terms our way and they pulled terms their way. But, at last, we reached a deal. And now, I am bringing it forward to a public, nationwide debate.

The Agreement (Copy and paste the link to see it):
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DkL2-Zt9YAmbdT1aBXdfM-7ALSGhKAUI3Hp02Q59ItM/edit?pref=2&pli=1

Pros:
-45,000 CC renting fee
-100% of our taxes returned to us
-4 full bonuses and 2 half bonuses

Cons:
-Still under occupation
-Only 4 bonuses
-Small renting fee

There it is. Have a good look at it. You will see the terms are harsh. But we are in a harsh situation internationally. Don't be mistaken, we've fought tooth and nail for the agreement to have its current form. The original deal that France proposed had us having only 2 full bonuses, for example. We did not bow down to them. But we did know we would have to compromise. And we compromised. Is the deal good for the UK? Yes and no. Yes because we will have some stability, will not be totally wiped out and will have stable income flowing in. On the contrary, we will still be under occupation, have only 4 bonuses and will not be able to participate fully economically. This deal is bigger than the government - it's about the path we take as a country - and everyone must be involved in decision making.

The cabinet has differing views on this. But we will not be deciding whether we sign this deal or not. You will. We want your opinion to be heard, so feel free to use this article as a debate platform and discuss this issue. We will listen to every suggestion, feedback and criticism. And we will make a decision based on your comments.

This debate will last for 48 hours, after which I will open a new article for actual votes in the referendum to be cast.

The government has no official stance on this. All cabinet ministers are free to vote as they wish.

Is this a lousy deal? Yes. It is. But we're in a very lousy position internationally. Is it acceptable? Yes, in my personal opinion, but only as a temporary measure. Am I happy with the agreement? No, of course not. But that's life.

I will be having a PMQs session tomorrow at 8 PM GMT where you will be able to ask me anything regarding the negotiations process as well as other issues. Make sure to join the channel #massdebate and participate!

DISCLAMER: The government is not trying to tell you what to think. We negotiated a deal, we have differing views on it and now we debate. You are free to have whatever stance you like, but the government itself will not root for any option but will remain neutral so the public can have the final say.

Let the debating begin!
