Yesterday Canada liberated Ontario from eUSA.
Today they will regret it.
While we did not relish the idea that they won this battle, there is a silver lining.
About a week ago, one of my senior advisers approached me with a plan to allow Canada to liberate one of their regions. Why? So that we could attack them back with an NE bonus while they only have a single region.
And why might this be a good thing?
Canada has (now had) a 3 Billion National Shield that they had won during the National Shield 2 contest. The mechanics of the National Shield are such that if they only have a single region, it will be possible to completely wipe it out in one fell swoop.
Today is that swoop. Today we will strip down Canada of its National Shield.
Prior efforts to strip Canadians have been disastrous.
This time will be different.
The Battle for Ontario launched a few minutes ago. During the first five rounds Canada will begin with a massive Shield advantage in each Division. We want to each up that shield NOW so that we won't have to deal with it later when Congressional elections will add a bit of extra vinegar to Canada's efforts.
So the strategy is not all that complicated.
Focus your damage on the opening 20-30 minutes of each of the first 5 rounds. Keep hitting until we push that shield symbol back past the 50% marker.
This was not exactly when we wanted to deal with this, but this is exactly how we wanted to deal with this.

I had a discussion with Gnilraps regarding this topic a couple of days before the Presidential Elections actually. Destroying Canada's shield at this stage in the month is a huge plus for the USA and may well prove to be one of the reasons for Canada not attaining a Congress this 25th.

This isn't either the time nor the place we wanted to do this. However, it was absolutely the plan to eliminate their shield before Congressionals.
So the proper way to handle this wouldn't have been to decide to go for it early on when we saw that we got manhandled in both the French and Canadian RW? That way we could focus on France and Baja and have 1 drain in Canada. As soon as the Canadian RW was lost we start the NE vote, wait a little bit and start a RW in a region that is not connected to Ontario and bash it so that when the NE vote is through we can attack and they have their RW on CD?
To me that sounds a lot better. Since you apparently "had this planned but didn't want to do it yet".

As I said IN THE ARTICLE, we didn't want to deal with this so soon. We didn't want to lose Ontario. We lost it.
However we knew we would WANT to lose a region so that we could deal with the Defense Shield while there is but one region.
Or you can just troll without reading the article. Your choice.
