Pokemon Go Strikes eRepublik

It sure has been slow around eRepublik lately. School is out, people are taking vacations, enjoying life in the real world. Boy, that fresh air and sunshine is wonderful stuff, ain't it?
But what's this? What's going on out there? That's not barbecues and beer pong. It's not baseball and Mom's apple pie. It's.. what? What??

The kids' card matching game, Pokemon, has now gone digital, and is a front page news story in many big city newspapers. Yesterday, it was two items in Facebook's "trending" side column. Whoever sets those things up is putting them in churches and government offices. They put Pokemons in the Museum of Natural History-- people are going to the exhibits just to get Pokemon.

Of course retailers and restaurateurs are freaking out at the increased foot traffic that isn't buying anything. People-- adult people-- are walking around with their eyes glued to their fancy phones, searching for the elusive Rare Pokemons, seemingly unaware of their surroundings.

"Everyone I try to call won't pick up 'cause they're busy hunting Pokemon. Everyone I text only wants to talk about Pokemon. Everyone I see with a phone out now is playing it," Vice President Resoula reports. "My friend and I almost hit a biker that was playing it at f***ing midnight. He had NO lights to signal he was there to drivers, was staring at his phone, not even watching the road.
Down my street there's a Pokemon, and you can barely walk because there's always 20 million children and nostalgic adults gathered there to get the Pokemon."

DepSecDoCA Illiguy remarks, "I started playing Pokemon Go again. I decided that I shouldn't let the behavior of others keep me from doing something I find enjoyable. Evolved a Beedrill, that was neat."

Even SecState Wild Owl has been bitten by the bug: "I caught a Jynx and a Caterpie today on Pokemon Go."

Special Envoy to Russia khotko showed off his latest catch:

Listen, kids.. it's all fun and games, and of course while you're out hunting Pokemons you're checking into eRep now and then to snag a Battle Hero medal and buy Gold an' stuff... just be careful out there.

A New York man wrapped his car around a telephone pole while trying to catch an imaginary, sea-based, fictional creature in the new viral game Pokemon Go. Steven Cary, former Marine, suffered a broken ankle and leg lacerations when he drove head first into a tree. Family members have stated that Cary spotted the Lapras while operating the motor vehicle and became only “briefly distracted.”

War News: Ireland
by Secretary of State Wild Owl

Ireland for the Irish! It's been loads of fun, but it's time for us to go.

The United States of America and Ireland have been engaged in a lengthy Training War before the advent of Resource Wars. The aim of the Resource Wars was, initially, to help the two countries get an ideal set of resources, a task in which both of us largely succeeded and later on, to serve as a source of TP damage for our respective countries.

We are very thankful to Ireland for being a gracious host and agreeing to a Training War with us in our cores. Together, we have been able to farm a considerable amount of gold and CC for our citizens in the form of Battle Hero Medals, True Patriots and Campaign Heroes.

However, it is now time to close this Training War, as both Ireland and USA are looking at different avenues for possible growth and expansion. The US has also gotten much busier since our entry in Spain, and it is best for all parties involved to end this particular training war for now, although both of us are willing to restart it at a later time.

Once again, thank you Ireland.

Hail USA!
Hail Ireland!

Vice President Resoula's $10,000 Writing Contest
reprinted from Wednesday's WHPR Special Edition

Welcome to Writing Week! This is a media event created by your Vice President that asks one simple thing of everyone in eUSA in exchange for a chance at winning one of the top 3 prizes.

To participate in writing week is very simple. All you have to do is write one article of any length about eRepublik. Whether it be a poem about eRepublik, actual news of going-ons in eRepublik, or a rant about how much and why you hate Plato. As long as it is somehow related to eRepublik, it counts.
Every person can make one submission, and submissions will be accepted until 11:59PM EST 7/19/16.

The prizes are as follows...

1st Place: 10,000 CC
2nd Place: 5,000 CC
3rd place: 2,500 CC

The rules are simple.

1. You must submit your piece during the allotted time.
2. One article per participant.
3. The article must be eRep related.
4. You must label your article with [WW] before the title, and provide a link to this article somewhere in your article.

The articles will be judged by Yui, Resoula, and Melissa Rose after the deadline and the winners will receive their prize once the judging has been completed.

To submit your article, you must send a PM containing the article link to Resoula.

Happy writing, and may the most enthusiastic end triumphant.

New Contest Contest

We've run the Caption This: contest pretty hard in both the WHPR and USAF Newsletters, so it's time to put that feature back in the box for a while and try something else.

The only problem is.. we don't know quite what sort of contest to run in its place!

And this is where you come in-- the first order of business must be to run a contest to determine what the next contest will be!

Post your ideas in the Comments, below, and if we decide to go with it we'll pay you $500.
