The proposed ceasefire - My thoughts.
Muglack
As I read the articles of the past few hours I see many referencing the proposed ceasefire to occur around the elections. At first glance this seems to be a good idea. It let's party presidents place their candidates without having to worry that the regions will be lost and their members caught behind enemy lines, it also let's the people who are running in those border regions to move in voters without having to worry about sending them extra moving tickets to get back to Canada should the region fall into enemy hands.
It however also made me think. It made think back to a certain January 31st, 1968. The radio stations in both the north and the south were proclaiming a ceasefire had been signed to ring in the new year. Both sides were putting down their guns for 2 days (sound familiar?) not to do each other a favor but so that the days could be recognized and celebrated by both sides (sound familiar?).
History tells us that one side did not keep their word. One side launched a sneak attack while their enemies were unaware and unsuspecting. One side realized that at a time of war it is not against the rules to claim one thing and do another in the hopes of gaining an advantage.
So I ask you this citizens of eCanada. When both sides are expected to put down their guns, and the 48 hours of peace are in place which side do you want to be? Are we going to be the ones who have lulled our enemies into a false sense of security, or are we going to be the idiots caught with our pants around our ankles?

The mistake was being unaware and unsuspecting
I will be checking things regularly with my gun not to far from my hands
Voted! Great read!
I have no memories of '68, and it wasn't because of the drugs. Muglack, are you really 40+? But seriously, it is good to wonder what could be lost by gambling for temporary peace. Would we lose the initiative on declaring battles? Who decides who gets dibs on pressing the attack button once the 48 are up?
Very interesting, indeed. I, too, will be locked and loaded ... well, I'll at least be loaded.
No I'm not 40. But I can think back to 1968 the same way I could think back about 1944 or 1941 in terms of their relevance to a war campaign in the eWorld.
Very good article, thought provoking.
This may all be for naught anyway with the UK CP up for impeachment and on the verge of being impeached
"or are we going to be the idiots caught with our pants around our ankles?" Suspenders ftw. I do remember 1968 btw.
