1. Manolis Hiotis

The King



Manolis Hiotis was born in Thessaloniki Greece in March 21 1921.
He started his career as a quitar player but some time he started playing bouzouki.
Hiotis wasn't simply a great bouzouki player. He was also an excellent composer who wrote too many great songs and solos.
He had great success in Greece where his songs remain still very popular today.
He wrote in both rebetico and popular style.
He had great succsess in the USA too and he was invited at 1964 in the White House to performe for Lyndon Johnson's birthday.

One of the frequent costumers in the club Hiotis used to play in the US was Jimie Hendrix who was a great fun of Hiotis.
Ones a reported said to Hendrix "Jimie you are the best quitar player in the world" and Hendrix replied "you sould hear Manolis Hiotis playing first and then to say who's the best".

Manolis Hiotis was the person who added the 4th double string in the bouzouki and improved it very much.

He died at 21 of March 1970 at the age of 49 due to a heart attack.
