Reinventing democracy
Patanjali
Namaste.
If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in government to the utmost. – Aristotle
What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy? – Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Mean time, in Romania a big/small tragedy occurs. Over 30 dead and more than 150 injured.
Even if Romania had only 20 millions it is not so much. Many more die every year in car crashes, because the bad roads, or in hospital because the bad management and care system, or because they where subdued to severe poverty.
This particular incident got a nation wide impact because something else happen, after that.
Citizens began to protest and, from a day to another, they began to remember and impute to Government, at the beginning, all the bad things in them lifes.
Then, they think better and remembered that all politicians are alike, and all political class where blamed.
In the end, even the Church was blamed, because priests got too much wealth comparing to average peoples.
Meantime, Europe is thinking to reinvent democracy, under the pressure of the million migrants that came from Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Africa and (some, about 30
😵from Syria.
Those migrants wave result in building fences on Europe borders and even mighty Germany want to be protected. By the small poor country from east Europe, of course.
Now, because you, my friends, are wise (at least that kind of wisdom that a normal life gave to humans), please tell me, how could democracy be improved, reinvented?
I ask this question to you, because the forth father of India, Gandhi (the old one), was reluctant to democracy and want some sort of representation of all in the governance / exercise of power, so I think something from he’s ideas must have survived in you.

I like the middle east concept. Everyone is welcome to come and work, but you can never be a citizen.
The core of the country is preserved, and migrants get jobs to work... Some are critical of this, but I see this as the best way to a migration crisis.
I am not a big fan of the models of democracy that are followed in the majority of the world. Especially when corruption is as rampant as it is in the current scenario. Many find it shocking, but I don't vote & have intentionally never applied for a voter card, even if it leads to other inconveniences.
I believe a merit-based civil society needs to have more of a say in a nation's decision-making process. It would lead to a more sustainable process of developing intellectual capital. Of course I have little faith in politicians & this is just a utopian idea I cling to. Heh
dictators al the way o/
You got the true spirit of Gandhi 😃

I fail to understand how the examples given by you (Europe, migrants, etc.) are directly linked to democracy 🙁
Can you elaborate please?
This crisis is shaking the core values of democracy, as it was developed in EU (including social protection, inclusion, rights equality between all, etc). This lead to disrespect of certain agreements of the member states, how is the case with the Dublin agreement (sharing the burden, for example).
Somehow, considering that those days India request to have back the Koh i Noor, Greece still asking back for all the statues from ancient Athina that are now in London, etc, I sense it like a time of ~Reset~.
In this situation, EU Council (lead by a guy with the name of a german bomber) is forced to find new ways to make Democracy functional.
If they could not succed, Anarchy is the next level and after that, probably, another War and Dictatorship.
This kind of big events are generated by small events, triggers, like that.
voted old friend! o7
