Liebe Buerger Germarks,

Quo vadis Germany?

Dear citizens of Germany,

Almost half a year ago, I asked the question: Where will Germany go when Sirius dissolves? Now, the question is more relevant than ever, as the top news of this week was:

"After a long illness passed away: Sirius"

The fact that the alliance guided by Poland has stood before its disolution already for a long time, was an open secret for everyone involved. Initially intended to form, together with Aurora (Aurius) a counterweight to the Serbian lead alliance Asteria, Sirius had been involved faster than expected in both internal and external problems.

Starting with the entry and departure Brazil, over the expulsion of the US, the lack of support of Spain and Croatia in the fight against Argentina and Serbia through to the non-inclusion of the Ukraine, the alliance was plagued by internal quarrelling.

In particular, the role of Poland within the alliance was ambivalent from the beginning: Started, actually, with the claim of the leading power of the alliance, the politics of the country fluctuated constantly between "Farmville" psychological non-aggression-pact with Asteria and open confrontation with the opponents of Sirius and Aurora.

However, the application for admission of Poland to Asteria gave the alliance the death blow. Turkey and Croatia branded Poland as traitors and immediately resigned from the alliance. Poland, Spain and the UK didn´t have any choice and followed only a day later.

The relations to the sister alliance Aurora, which damage Sirius needed (and vice versa), to maintain the international balance of power, was also from the beginning not without friction. In particular, the refusal of Poland to assist Aurora in the liberation of the Macedonian core regions, or at least in assuring Congress for Macedonia (Defence of the Argentine AS on Australia / Mazedonean airstrike on Canada), difficulted the cooperation with Aurora.

This led ultimately to the fact that on one hand Aurora´s help for Sirius essentially concentrated on the support of Croatia and Turkey and on the other hand it made it posible for Asteria/Leto to attack Aurora and its possessions without taking bigger risks (Venezuela, Bulgaria , Indonesia, Mexico, chile colonies in Australia and Peru).

Aurora itself is lying sick in bed. And the diagnosis for the survival of the Alliance is not at its best! Germany and Bulgaria have already pulled the emergency brake and left the alliance. The reasons therefore are manifold and range from poor internal organization and coordination and lack of cooperation with Sirius (in the case of Germany) to lack of support (Bulgaria).

But where shall Germany go and which alliance will eD join?

Although there are some options to choose from. However, much would depend on how the international alliance structures will develop in the coming weeks. And the options available to us at the moment, are not particularly delighte😛

1) Germany goes the Polish way:

Given the strong Polish support in the German campaigns in recent months, especially against Asgard, this is actually a tempting possibility, especially since Poland depends on Germany, if it wants to maintain its route to the west. However, for many eGermans it is an absurdity to ally with someone who keeps occupied a large part of its country. And if Poland should unite with Serbia, this would mean for Germany, that it has to turn its back to almost all current allies. And the only good reason to include Germany in an alliance, is its reliability as alliance partner. Although the Polish membership application was not accepted by Asteria - as information currently is available, however, that won´t say that in the future an alliance between Poland and Serbia can be excluded as in the days of CoT/TWO.

2) Join LETO:

The Alliance is too weak and also has the same internal problems that have led to the withdrawal of Germany from Aurora. At the same time joining LETO would reequire a radical break, and all previous Aurora allies would have to be abandoned. In addition, Germany has no friends in Leto. France has left some time ago and will also stay in future on the opposite side of Poland.

3) Join Pacifica:

Accession to Pacifica would be a good choice given our good friendship with Russia. Whether Germany would be added there, is another matter. Secretary General Wild Owl is not on good odds with Germany. And not forgotten is the US refusal to sign a MPP with us after the accession of Germany to Aurora. But above all other things, the fact standing in the way of acceding to Pacifica isl: The United States actually only take care of their own welfare and are not afraid to stab an ally int its back at the first threat of an attack on the US.. The newest example: When Argentina recently threatened with a new attack on the US, the Americans signed a non-aggression pact with Asteria/Leto and sold out their previously loyal ally Mexico (Tequila Pact) to Colombia.

4) Join Root

Although Germany has in Root friendly countries such as Estonia, Lithuania and Switzerland But as in the case of Leto: The Alliance is much too weak if it should come to the aid Germany in case of an attack.

Given these entirely not too good looking options there rises the very legitimate question whether Germany is currently in the need to be connected to an alliance. Nothing prevents that Germany will continue with the current MPPs (or even with a slighly reduced MPP stack to save some money) and will take notes of the developement on the international stage.

Hastily made wrong decisions due to incorrect and/or inaccurate perception of the upcoming international interconnections and shifts of alliances will give us more likely a hard time and they´re almost not correctable. Although a change of allies and alliances may be necessary condition for the functioning and survival of the game, but we shouldn´t forget what our ultimate negotiating good - seeking to join an alliance - was and will be again: the reliability of Germany as an ally.

Allies can be made as quickly in this game as friends can be lost due to treachery But building new friendships in particular between different gaming communities is difficult and laboriously. Therefore, the government should proceed in the coming weeks with the necessary mindfulness, so that the horse (choice of alliance) won´t bolt by accident.
