Pavlov's Dogs and the Resource Wars

Day 3,142, 03:16 Published in Serbia Ireland by Releasethe Krakken

Well I am not gong to much into Pavlov's Dog but this has more to do with an expected reward in the design phase.

So we saw that we all fought for 30 days to allocate resources. We thereafter waited another 30 days for the changes to be implemented.

So lets look at the formulas one by one.

Productivity bonus

The Productivity Bonus for an industry is calculated as such:

Productivity Bonus = Country Productivity Bonus + Region Productivity Bonus + Player Booster - Region Pollution Factor

Pollution Factor is calculated based on the number of goods of the same type that were produced in the region compared to the overall average production for that type of goods. The factor varies between 0 and 25%. The more goods are produced in the region, the higher the pollution will be. Each product type/quality pair will have its own pollution.

All raw Factories will share the same pollution for their respective industry (Example: Fishery, Grain, Farm and all other Food Raw Materials will share the same Pollution Factor).

The Country Productivity Bonus is the sum of distinct industry resources the Country owns.

IE: if a Country holds all 5 resources for an industry and the regions are linked to the capital, the Country Productivity Bonus will be 100%.

Keep in mind that if a region is not linked to the Country capital, half of its resources’ productivity bonuses will be used in the formula (ex: 25% for rare will become 12.5😵.

The Region Productivity is the sum of the industry specific resources available in the region divided by 5.
IE: if a region holds the best 4 resources for an industry, its productivity bonus will be 18%.

Based on the numbers presented and assuming a Pollution Factor of 25% and no individual Productivity Boosters, the Productivity for a food company will be computed as:

Total Productivity = 100%(base_productivity) + 100%(country_bonus) + 18%(region_bonus) + 0%(individual_booster) - 25%(pollution) = 193% (93% productivity bonus)
For the same example but with no pollution we would 100% + 100% + 18% + 0 - 0 = 218% Total productivity (118% productivity bonus)

Other Examples:

0% country bonus, 0% region bonus, maximum pollution: 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 - 25 = 75% Final productivity (-25% productivity bonus)
50% country bonus, 5% region bonus, 5% pollution: 100 + 50 + 5 + 0 - 5= 150% Final productivity (50% productivity bonus)

Somewhere another writer on the Serbian feed commented that the holding company will operate independently from the owners citizenship.

So lets look at 1 point . Basically we all worked very hard for the region bonus which is :The Region Productivity is the sum of the industry specific resources available in the region divided by 5.
IE: if a region holds the best 4 resources for an industry, its productivity bonus will be 18%.

So best case scenario it adds another 18% right. NO!!! Because the other thing Plato also added is pollution which: Pollution Factor is calculated based on the number of goods of the same type that were produced in the region compared to the overall average production for that type of goods. The factor varies between 0 and 25%. The more goods are produced in the region, the higher the pollution will be. Each product type/quality pair will have its own pollution.

Ok so Plato gave us region bonuses but effectively he is taking it away with pollution or nerfing it. All other factors in the formula worked the same.

If its going to be a factr from 0 to 25% and say we have a high pollution . In best case we cannot hope for anything less than 12.5% pollution.

PAVLOV'S DOGS or PLAYERS will all respond to a false positive. In fact we can now see if the pollution is on the high level based on averages. Think about students taking a test

2 will get 80 - 160
5 will get 70 - 350
8 will get 60 - 480
15 will get 50 - 750
8 will get 40 - 320
3 will get 20 - 60
1 will get 5 - 5

So lets add up and average out: 42 students earned 2125 points average is 50.59%

Ok but lets say we take all the regions which were close to 700 - 500 will have say 5 jobs in a region = 1000 jobs
lets average about for next 190 100 jobs = 1900

last each 3000 per region = 30000

total 32900 jobs /700 = 47 jobs average

So ABS(3000/47) = 100% POLLUTION

That is not correct maths but basically we capped our percentage at 100%

So lets revisit our formula

Base + Country Bonus + Region (to a max of 18% ) minus pollution(to a max of 25😵

Lets take rubber we get 250 + 250 (serbia holds all regions hopefully)

We stop here at this stage no matter your region you have 500 WRM

Good now we go to the formula for region which clearly states to a MAX of 18%

So we add another 18% = 45 (what we fought for a month)

And then the taxman says hey what about your pollution So at this stage we go again to the formula which now say to a maximum of 25%

If we take the student example we have to fork back 12.5%

if we take my example we will have to fork back 25%

Now lets look at the examples provided by Plato

For the same example but with no pollution we would 100% + 100% + 18% + 0 - 0 = 218% Total productivity (118% productivity bonus)

Other Examples:

0% country bonus, 0% region bonus, maximum pollution: 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 - 25 = 75% Final productivity (-25% productivity bonus)
50% country bonus, 5% region bonus, 5% pollution: 100 + 50 + 5 + 0 - 5= 150% Final productivity (50% productivity bonus)

We can clearly add up disregarding the original base + country

we get either 18% minus 12.5 = 5.5% net bonus

or worst case 18% minus 25% = -7% net bonus

Yes you have read it right if everyone places their factories in regions with a high region bonus we get the effect of a nerf in production.

But each product type will have its own pollution. Except Raw materials. What this means is that Q7 will have the highest pollution in weapons but the lowest in say food and houses.

Since raw is universal it means that placing your factory in a high region bonus region will lead to a nerf or small percentage gain.

For rubber we get 13 more wrm.

Now 13 more wrm per factory is minimal at 100 factories its 1300 but 100 factories produce 50000 . At current prices we risk nerfing 1500 cc for a gain of 39 cc.

CONCLUSION

Basically we fought a month and waited a month for ZERO gain . WELL DONE PLATO!.

Plato had a stick in his hand the whole time . Everyone that jumps on the high bonus regions will probably get a beating.

In programming this makes no sense. Why reward a user by punishing him? Hey Plato none of us are sado-masochist . Despite your research. Yes we like playing a game that each day suck more but that is not because of some deep rooted urge for punishment.

how can plato fix it. by realizing his mistake he should quickly up the region bonus to 50% of its face value or 75% or 100% . Or make moving your holding free and unlimited.

This is golden gun territory where players in the west was not allowed spoilers and so chose the wrong path and never received the top fort fighting gun which was the most important activity in the game. They had to re-offer the golden gun in another mission because of the unpopular decision /error they made at the start.

Most likely players will sign into the high bonus region never figuring out it nerfs their production and then go ballistic when they realize the above.

Not that it would be a massive nerf but still shouldnt there be a reward for a task well done?
