On elections / Over verkiezingen
BaronVanZon
Some citizens, included myself, got confused yesterday. First there was an elections button, then the elections got discontinued. Due to the fact we were holding no regions on the election deadline, we will not have a new Congress this month. A faulty game code however, first said otherwise and showed us the vote now-button.
It did struck me though that hardly (or even none) of the political parties actually campaigned. One could say it was because there was the expectancy of not having an elections this month. Or is it more? Did the Netherlands settle for a political stasis? Do we all just vote for our own party and that's it?
I collected some reactions amongst the party presidents down below, but what do you think? Have we grown complacent?
* In the end the expectancy of no congress is the reason that nobody is campaigning at the moment.
* I personally don't think that the eNL have agreed on some status quo with minor changes. If you look at Congress development on the long term, there are not many changes, but they are there. A great thing about our current society is that our differences really aren't that great and our player platform isn't very large, meaning that we don't have much "margin" in who gets to be in Congress and who doesn't.
New players are absolutely not left in a swam of political ignorance. In fact, it is fairly easy for new players to become active in politics. Just register on the forum and use your Dutch citizen's right to comment in the Congress Debate section. You don't have to be a Congress Member to have the right to participate in a debate! (Great rule of our community!)
* I think the uncertainty of there being elections is part of it. most probably didn't think we would actually have them. Also the war might have been distraction for writing articles, plus the fact that most people already are in a party, and the few that are not are either accounts about to die or have been along for some time and know what the parties stand for.
I'm not saying there shouldn't be any articles, but given all of the above it isn't much of a surprise there aren't any.
* Personally I think this is because most of us are busy fighting the Italians. And ofcourse also because finally Summer has struck our country!

A country will have a congress if they have at least a region on every month on 23rd 02:00 and 25th 00:00 and 26th 06:00
On the 23rd we were fully wiped by Italy, so yeah, that's the reason we don't have congress. Everyone who was aware of this, including the party presidents and other people who were interested in the Congress elections, knew already there wasn't going to be any congress. That's why there was no campaigning. Usually around this time there are a lot of articles up of all the parties to encourage the citizens of eNL to vote for their party.
votado.
In the DemNL private section of the forum we always have a discussion before congress elections. In this case we noticed that no in-game elections would take place, so we basically decided to take no further action.
And indeed the war also played a role. We might have published something already a bit earlier, but also the early signs were that we would be wiped, or left with only one region. In any case, publishing campaign articles for elections that do not really occur only adds to the confusion.
Next month, I'm expecting to see a normal election campaign again.
Regarding what this means for our congress: basically the old congress stays in place on our forum. And since there was no in-game power anyway (due to the dictatorship) actually nothing changes. Congress on the forum keeps checking on what the gov is doing, and keeps ordering the dictator around. 😉
Idk what I like best the old or the new 'Het Parool' :/
Well I managed to vote.
Steengoede krant weer !!
verwacht komende 2 maanden nog minder activiteit. Vanwege vakantie periode wordt het erg rustig.
