Of Farms And Zombies
Ind1anMartyr
Hi guys,
It has been a while since the occupation tax and the determination bonus has been applied in-game. There have been a lot of views and thoughts about it, but as the days have progressed, there has been more clarity on how it affects nations.
I read a recent article (go on vote up the guy!) that talked about the effects. The article by itself is not really extraordinary, it is the comments that are insightful and even downright depressing! Have a read below at some of my selected comments and share your thoughts if you feel like it! (or disagree) since this would help us all understand better.
Stoich :
The tax is not balanced at all by the determination bonus and is yet another farmer oriented mechanic in the game.
It basically means no income for the vast majority of countries in the game, which will in time fully destroy any sort of "organized" game play. The hope of the admins obviously is that people will compensate for that with buying gold to turn into currency to dish out in COs from them.
The result like many other things they have done will be another impulse for the ongoing exodus of players.
The determination bonus is nothing more then a minor nuisance and one that appears only after weeks and months of occupation.
Soon smaller and even medium countries will not be able to sign MPPs anymore which will make impossible for them to even start thinking of fighting back. There is no way for them to change this even with high taxes as the taxes would be going to the occupier.
The complete morons managed to brake the game even more then it was before.
Alex Dima :
And then the occupied countries changed the taxation level to minimum and this taxation of occupied regions became useless again.
Stoich :
really? It basically killed any ability of the occupied countries to save resources to organize a resistance at a later time, because the countries now have no income, hence no ability to borrow against their taxes at a future date as well, only on the basis of private donations...
Basically the game is being turned into a farmville, but only for a few chosen by the admins countries. They have been hard at work to destroy the warrior type countries for 2 years now, changing the mechanics and bonuses and events and tournaments and what not to that end.
The result is more then obvious in the number of players left playing the game even "revive the dead" tricks can't hide it anymore.
Alex Dima :
I didn't say this change is good or bad. I said it is useless. : )
Stoich :
well let's agree to disagree, for me it is very useful for some.... farmers
😉
FOOT-NOTE
Share your thoughts via an article or a comment. eRepublik is a game that is tough to balance due to its number of players with varied thoughts and ideas...added to which ar ethe admins and their incessant need for making money (but obviously!) Though none of what we write or discuss ever gets taken up the admins/coders, its still worthwhile to discuss, if nothing, to enhance our own understanding of economy and social interactions.
Maybe time to turn back time and go back to "farming"?
😛

Yeah.. That change was bad but not as nearly as bad as Stoic said it was...
Saying that country can't pay for its own MPP's is stupid as I myself can earn enough to sign around 30 MPP's every month + having enough to fully equip myself....
If anything else it can only bring occupied countries community closer to each other and make them more united where everyone would contribute as much as they can while bringing greed to those that would only expect to get something from that same country and divide them more and more as time passes...
So yeah that change was bad but not as nearly bad as some other things that most of players got used to play by its rules....
thanks for the comment 🙂 makes a lot of sense!!!
Too often people allow their mistrust of admin to enhance the negative. The best description I can think of is that eRepublik is self-devouring. The reality is that the game is not as terrible as it is perceived to be. Certainly there are difficulties, but the only true blemish on the game is the economy module. If they ever truely improved it so other players can survive more easily, then the game will begin to revive again.
The fact is despite its drawbacks loads of people keep playing it. So other than the finer points which we keep discussing what the game lacks is a regular feed back from the players. And eventually making players frustrated. A regular feedback does not mean they have to implement all our ideas. But imagine 50000 brains sending ideas rather than just 50 people working on them. Eventually in the future RL admins are also going to work like this(refer to Arvind kejriwal of AAP)
Now THAT'S a dream! Admins actually going through so many responses! 😃 eUtop-lik 😉
Also how the hell does exzilyon make 30k per month? Hey write an article or atleast msg me ur trick.
A lot of companies help with that : P
Tho I am old player that invested a lot of time to get to that point but yeah there are a lot of people like me. That is if I work in all of them and hire people to work in those but sadly I don't bother with that anymore... : /
On the other side money that I earn goes directly to the new players and not to the country as itself because I can't know in what way would that money be used...
All in all country doesn't need taxes if it wants to be successful but only united community.
Ohh it is 300k per mth(I think)
