Language

Day 4,096, 14:20 Published in USA USA by lachuger

To carry on the theme of observational commentary on government (granted it's been 3 weeks since my last article), today we turn to the idea of linguistics used in government. The rhetoric which we use to convey an idea is just as important as the idea that is being conveyed. Observe the difference in the three statements below:

"I concede that apples may be healthier but I prefer bananas."

"The reason that I choose apples over bananas over apples is because I have eaten apples my whole life."

"Bananas have artificially added potassium and di-hydrogen oxide which is why I would rather eat all-natural organic apples."

All three of these statements convey the same idea but have different motives which makes me think a bit harder about the messages that I receive and the news articles posted around the world of eRepublik. Even if all of the information of an article is strictly factual, what is the motive behind spreading that information (this article included).
