Inside The Bastion: A different game

Day 2,481, 04:20 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Spir Tus

Today is the end of my first time as part of the Bastion, as State Secretary of Defense in Valeyard II. This period has learned me a lot about the game and especially about the people in the game. But above all I have learned a lot of how governing works and the huge difference between being in government, and just being a citizens who is interested in politics.

I'm sorry for not publishing as much as I hoped. Due to the fact I was in government, I wouldn't publish something against the system, or against my own government. This article will be a recap of my past month as part of the government.

I was the last member of the government and I was appointed on 7/8 as State Secretary of Defense, under Kaczy as Minister of Defense and NoTie112 as Advisor of the Ministry. The last erepublik month took longer than the other two months on erep, because there was much more happening, and much more I knew about everything.

June and July was a boring month for me, as normal citizen. There were only a few interesting articles of people and very few from the government. There was not much on the forum either, so I thought the activity was really bad. August was the complete opposite of this. As part of the government you speak with a lot of people and have to do a lot. You know almost everything about everything that is important and you learn to know more people and their opinions about everything. The difference between a month without government (or congress, but I don't know that) and a month within government, is really big.

The thing I liked to do as SS of Defense was to learn new things. I had the idea that our communication with all citizens was extraordinary and there were much more informative articles, I thought. But I was completely wrong. When you have contact with a lot of people, do a lot of stuff and get involved in as much as possible, you don't have any clue about what other people know. The climax was the last couple of days when I heard some people didn't know about the AS on Baja. This was a topic highly discussed everywhere, but it seems noone know about it if you don't read the forum or participate on IRC.

This has been a valuable lesson for me and I will make sure communication to the people will be my first priority in everything what I will do in the future. I like to have as much information as possible of everything, but I lost overview and didn't know there was no information at all about a lot of things. Personally, I think overcommunication is always a danger, so I'm scared of communicating too much. I would like to know how other people see this. Anyway, I think overcommunication is better than no communication at all.

Thanks for reading this short article and sorry for the lack of structure in this article. I am too lazy today to create a good article. I hope the next one will be much better 😛

I would like to thank everyone who helped me last month in doing my job. Especially I would like to thank the Valeyard for giving me this chance and Kaczy who helped me with everything I needed to know.

And by the way, Vote Tonie today! Then I will be SS of Defense another month!
