Part 3 of the Daniels Series

Daniel’s was just beginning to fall asleep in his comfortable bed of Irish Rubble when shells seemed to burst in every direction all at the same time and throw large chunks of lethal metal through the air above him.

Daniels loved Dublin.

“Hey guys! I just got word! Its gonna be a fun night! Nice of them to tell be before it started shitting steel out there!” Col. Evry Yelled as loud as he could from his foxhole, screaming above the racket.

“Supposedly, they’re gonna cut that nonsense out in couple minutes, then we get to go take their nice big guns from them! Howitzers and Tank Destroyers!”

Daniels heard him clearly enough, and shoved his head farther into the dirt, waiting for this supposed “slow down” in artillery fire. Rubble fell all around him and he was covered in dust and harmless debris as what was probably the last free-standing building in the area got blasted to bits. Turns out though, “in a couple minutes” came pretty soon. Daniels poked his head out, the artillery had stopped, and apparently the Brits still hadn’t learned that Marines don’t mind getting shelled.

“Alright ya jarheads, these bastards are actually pretty close, we’ve just gotta run down thirteen or so blocks and then we liberate those field pieces, lets go!”

It was too late at night for talking so the Marines just ran, cutting out their usual swearing and ranning fast in the hope they can get back to their rubble piles and back to sleep soon. Block after block, they ran hard in no time and broke into their familiar fire teams.

6 Marines, down one street, another 6 around the side and 7 more moving around on another angle. It didn’t take any talking at all as the marines moved around the British troops quickly and quietly, getting three separate angles on them and just waiting for the word.

“Alright, looks like 3 mortar teams, a battery of 5 howitzers and a couple tank destroyers watching their rear, though I’m not sure if they’ve actually got any guys in them” Evry’s voice came over their radios quietly, just loud enough for them to hear. “Teams one and two, focus on the howitzers, team three get rid of those mortars and keep a good eye on the TDs, if start to move, blast ‘em”

Each team opened up fire perfectly, as though they new the moment of Evry’s order before it happened. The mortar teams went down, the Howitzer crews are dismantled by a storm of angry lead. They ran through the carnage once they had finished that initial deadly salvo, but could find no resistance to speak of. The TDs ended up to be empty after all.

“Some more good orders marines, along with our orders came the news that we’re leaving Ireland tomorrow, Brits have finally had it, this is the last action we see here, tomorrow is another battlefront in some new god forsaken region” Evry seemed thrilled to say this, fact is, the weather in Ireland sucks.

Daniels was suddenly filled with pride over his accomplishments in his first Marine deployment, He remembered all the Marines that had come before him, and would come after, and could only be certain that this was the only force he could ever fight with for the rest of his career.
