Daily Terrible Niceness (Day 2313)

Day 2,313, 09:09 Published in Ireland Ireland by John Gormley

Oh yes, I'm back with my first article for about 4 months. And who do you have to thank (or blame!) for this? Well, it's the one and only harrilal!

Everybody's favourite Trinbagonian started a Niceness Challenge recently. I think that was a marvellous idea and he deserves great credit for starting such a great initiative.
Thank you, by the way, to An Sluagh who wrote a very nice article about me (it's all lies though 😛).

But who shall be the unwitting victim of my campaign of niceness today? I definitely do like a bit of a challenge, but this one will really take the biscuit. To be particularly challenging, I think I will go for someone that a lot of people love to hate. No one fits that bill more than Viktor Kurgan!

There is scarcely a more polarizing figure in all of eIreland. Whether he intends to or not, he seems to create tension and conflict wherever he goes.

But, ladies and gentlemen, I am setting out to illustrate through 5 concise points that Kurgan is much more than the infamous troll that many people perceive him to be. He is intelligent, funny and, on occasions (I admit they're rare), he is even a nice, friendly guy. Here is my toast to Viktor Kurgan!

1: Interactions with him can be very funny. All you need to do is take his comments with a grain of salt and counter with a piece of banter. If you do this, and don't take his ranting too serious, then you could potentially even enjoy your interactions with him.

2: When I was running my Terrible Jokes series, Kurgan nearly always commented with "entertained" or "Kurgan is entertained" or something along those lines. It probably wasn't always completely sincere but it was still pretty nice considering the poor quality of jokes! 😉

3: He is always calling me Gromley. While I find this very weird and slightly irking, I actually think it's a bit funny. And, I tend to just do as in point 1 and just throw it back to him by calling him Krugan (pretty stupid I know, but I like it).
I also think that perhaps if he took the effort to give me a nickname, I must mean something to him. But I'm probably wrong. He probably just hates me! 😛

4: His act is very peculiar indeed but I suppose you have to strangely admire that he is so committed to it and rarely leaves character. At least I hope it's just an act...!

5: He is loyal to those who are good to him. Maybe we don't see that too often but it's definitely true. Maybe most of us who are outside that circle of so-called "Clerics" don't like it at times, but he really has a fantastic relationship with all those who call themselves "Clerics". They work together well and back each other up at all times. Maybe they don't direct their efforts to the best causes at times, but I still see their extreme loyalty and devotion to each other as quite noble. I just wish that Kurgan and RtK would just finally come out and admit to their Bromance.

So there you have it. I'm not saying you should immediately love Kurgan completely. Just bear in mind that he has some likable traits and most of all I'd like to reiterate that you should take everything he does with a grain of salt.
Thank you!
