An American Employment Program

A United States Employment Program
Citizens of this country who have been around for the last few months have seen the evident decline in black and white. Our numbers have fallen by several thousand, our active players becoming less and less enthusiastic and our standards slowly slipping. Really, this is all a combination of the one real issue at heart, and that’s the amount of active players we have. What happened to the days when there were many POTUS candidates, when articles filled our media and when I could spend twenty minutes talking to some new guy because what else did I have to do with that time on IRC? This morning I rejoined the United States (because let’s face it, I love you people) and I was dismayed to see only two articles under the political section. TWO. Both Presidential campaigns.
America is still an amazing country in this game, we’ve still had some great Presidents recently and some great victories, but I feel like everyday we could be on the path to do so much more, and it all begins with an active community. Every Presidential candidate has tended to promise some form of activity bump through “Competitions and Media” and all sorts of other things. I think we really need to start looking at an activity problem more logically. What keeps you active in this game? Why do you play? Isn’t this why other people would play this game too? I sure as heck don’t play for some competition in the media every two months and so I can read other people’s shouts. How entertaining that is…
“I DO IT FOR THE CAUSE (Hale26)”, “The people (Mazzy Cat)”, “I have no clue outside of the fact there are some truly awesome people (Malarkey83)”, “Its like a social network where I'm starting fresh with everyone (MrSwagg)”, “I play erep because of the people that play and the friendships (Potato134)”, “Because I love my MU, and I've always enjoyed playing politics (Kortanul)”, “I like this game because of the possibilities (Rainysunday)” . The truth is, most people play this game for either the military or the politics and the people involved in both. Now, I’m not the best military mind in the world, so I’ll let someone else solve any issues there (I’m looking at you Haley…) But I do know that most people play this game for the political jobs, congress seats, cabinet posts, and items of the sort. If that’s why people play, why aren’t we catering more to that area?
Now, yes, most Presidents and Presidential Candidates open their inboxes to anyone open to being a part of a cabinet, but rarely do many people besides the standard “elites” get involved. For whatever reason this is, and I’m sure someone has a good theory of why Oblige scares them off with his Whale powers, we need to get people involved in the aspects that keep them here (including IRC).
My solution? Well, I suppose the testing of a jobs program would be warranted. Why don’t we try getting every new player we can assisting in different departments? Not as Deputies perhaps, but as workers. Pushing them on IRC, giving them plenty to do, and making them feel as though they’re accomplishing something. (All significantly harder than it sounds, of course, but who isn’t up for some challenging fun?) A job program could also work on contouring more to the people, finding them jobs they didn’t quite know existed or where available. Military Unit jobs, the level of positions most new players don’t really think about, department jobs, ambassador jobs and more.
As Secretary of the Interior I opened an IRC program specifically to cater to this idea of why I play this game, and for the most part, it had better effects than I truly expected it to. This isn’t a black and white thing for sure, you can’t magically make every newb get a job, work hard, and love IRC (wouldn’t that be lovely…) and there certainly aren’t ten million things to do a day in an administration, but I have never seen the harm in trying new things, working with new programs, and giving something a shot.
Kudos to every administration who has tried to do something like this so far, it’s not an easy task, I’m not saying it ever will be, and I’m not saying it should be, but there needs to be more of an attempt. Is there even a program to involve people in government right now? Not one I can find easily, and as a former government member, I should hope I could find something like that fairly easily (noobs certainly couldn’t then). For one reason or another, new players don’t volunteer for cabinets, so there will need to be more pushing involved of course, and perhaps new players could be the ones assisting in running this, but not trying is not an answer.
Just my two cents and an attempt to fill the empty media void. How lonely it has gotten for the media module...

Voted. Good article.
hm, idea! elect me president! and i will lead america to less deaths!! lets lower the lethality rate of eusa! lets prosper again!!
exports! it is the number one key to grow the economy!!
Presidents of the eUS (and real life too) have to be able to at least write correctly.
Capitalize the beginning of sentences, apply proper punctuation, and use the basic semblance of sentence structure we all learned during fourth grade English class.
I mean, I stink at writing, but I still at least proofread my stuff. Makes me sound ALOT cooler then I am. This is not exactly rocket science, people!

Hm, here's a good idea! How about you elect me president? I will reduce eMerica's mortality rate, while also bringing more prosperity!
Exports are the key to grow the economy!

🙂 ha, a facade! It isn't the face of a building that makes it strong!
this is not the real u.s it's a game it's where people go to enjoy a nice gaming experience not writing essays for somethign that won't even make a difference would be a waste of time writing pooperly >😃 properly.. ;p
"I mean, I stink at writing, but I still at least proofread my stuff. Makes me sound ALOT cooler then I am. This is not exactly rocket science, people!"
A lot 🙂
A lot? a_l.o.t? i type quite fast 😛 no time for correcting waste of time
^ True, but if the facade looks shitty, it doesn't inspire confidence in the rest of the structure either.
your right! it will be more difficult for me to win presidency, however like in my party. the other party president promised a lot of different things and never accomplished anything. the next month i was elected. and i am almost certain i will win again if i run, though it is the 9th party and so it not important. but eventually the truth comes out. i have not seen many recent country presidents hold office for more than a month. soon America will learn.
You don't need to be a president to accomplish whatever goals you have in mind.
BTW, if you do get elected, you will find out why people don't want to get re-elected a second time 🙂
Voted.
When I was "more active" I had to dedicate myself to using IRC. I agree that there is no better tool to build the community but not everyone can manage it regularly. Glad to know you get it, though.
"we need to get people involved in the aspects that keep them here (including IRC)"
"Pushing them on IRC"
"make every newb get a job, work hard, and love IRC"
You'll notice IRC in all of the above quotes and that is specifically why I do not get involved. Apparently to really get involved, it requires participating in external forums and IRC. I have no interest in having to go outside the game to participate in a game.
Most of the reasons I've been given for this external participation, is that the game itself isn't setup to handle player needs properly. I have several reasons for not participating in these external "necessities", and one of them is that I don't want to facilitate poor programming and design on the part of eRepublik. This isn't my primary reason but it is high on my list.
I absolutely respect that a lot of people don't want to get on things like that, and I think they can certainly enjoy the game too. I'm just talking about what seems to work for the largest amount of people, what seems to keep most people active, and one of the main reasons I play myself.
this is the thing on your side is like this; "let's get people working and the economy working well so the country can run better and stay strong and so we can have strong relations and new leaders rising" . . .but in reality is really like this; "guys we need people to pay more taxes we've been losing a lot of money recently of all the spending and we need to restock we need more newbs and more people in our irc so we can command them then they will vote for our newspaper, vote against ajay and give us more money to bribe, spend on personal un-useful stuff and best of all sell some in black market so lets get those newbs working. . . .the newbs will be thinking most likely that they will end up ranking up and getting a position in a congress or in the house or even in as potus but that's what they want you to think it mostly takes 6 months for that to happen and that's less then 50% chance as some people's legacy's are tied to the game and here people don't die so those are never ending legacys.
U.S is dying slowly other countries are growing people would thing that it's boring stayin in the u.s by now seen how nothing interesting is going on and how we are weak puppets of poland ;p .
happy new years ;3
I'm not even talking about the economy if you read the article. Tax income has been going up, if you knew that either. I'm not an economic expert, and the ones we have are the ones working on that. More active people means more tax income. And honestly, how many people play this game to work and train every day? A lot, but how interesting is that? It's really not. I'd like to see people enjoy this game more, stop looking at the economics when I'm not talking about them.
oh so then your speaking about politics... continuously taking down afa? sounds worst i would prefer paying taxes ._.
Didn't talk about the AFA either 😛 Maybe read the article?
naa that's too much to read i just read start and the end and it gives me all i need /:
Voted!
lol their getting less tax money. i can tell alright. it's a good idea creating multis and advicing the puppets and followers to vote to make #1 so people can get a job and start working again xD lol well for me is still not happening i don't think i will be paying taxes for a while except for the money/gold exchange ;p money comes in and out ;p
Good plan.
