19 Reasons Why Kids Born In The 1990s Had The Best Childhood Ever!

And how the kids of today are missing out on so much!

That innocence, the happiness, the mischief. Children are God’s greatest gift. But seeing a baby in a cradle use a phone, instead of a soft toy is scary. The early 2000’s was a revolutionary period. The kids growing up these days do not realise that there is a world beyond four walls and an LED screen. Here are 19 reasons why today’s kids will never have a childhood as good as ours.

#1. Even though Lifebuoy and Dettol promise moms that it’s totally fine to let their kids play in mud, Moms these days are not going to allow them to do this:

The dust and dirt made our childhoods all the more better. And all those knee bruises? They are our souvenirs of the glorious past!

#2. The kids today think Chotta Bheem; Oggy – The Cockroach are the best of cartoons they can watch. Unfortunately, they have missed the best.

The kids today will never know how cool Power Puff Girls were or how hot Johnny Bravo was. Black and white checkers meant more than chessboards to us.

#3. “OMG, my baby is crying. Let me give her my phone to show her that video”.

The only thing that stopped us from crying was mom’s hug and a lullaby.

#4. Our Sunday mornings were something like this:

And not like this:

#5. The most advanced piece of technology we probably owned was a Walkman.

Not an phone. Not a computer. Definitely not a tablet.

#6. Some things that will never irritate the kids of today.

An😛

Nor will the kids know how much fun it was to do this, and then spend hours to untangle them!

#7. The kids will barely hear the infamous “washing powder Nirma” and “Vicco turmeric” ad songs.

You will have to adjust with the short-lived “jo tera hai who mera hai” or “har ek friend zaroori hota hai”.

#8. And oh the priceless stamp collections!

Those days when the anticipation of getting a new stamp was more than that of getting a letter!

#9. The only gaming devices we carried to a ground/park were bats and balls.

Today, socialising starts and ends within a small screen.

#10. “Ting ting ting” meant only this and not an annoying mobile ring tone.

Golaas for some reason feels tastier when with friends, preferably after a match of football!

#11. A million memories. One photo.

Those were the times when photos were taken for memories and not for “likes”!

#12. The friends who doubled up as our neighbours were the best people in our lives.

A day without meeting them or having street goodies with them was considered incomplete!

#13. TV shows made sense. So did the movies.

All of these shows left a mark on our hearts.

#14. And how awesome was it to see this guy in Microsoft Word?

Even though it was really irritating; for some reason many of us miss this guy.

#15. Passing chits and not texts when in a class!

And the fear of being caught.

Whispering “Don’t read, okay”? to the messenger!

#16. We saw the greatest cricketers play during their primes, and cried when they hung their shoes.

The days when rectangular scorecards and jam-packed test matches ruled the world of cricket. Twenty20? Not so much!

#17. Power cuts did not make us desperate for the Internet. It made us happy: because no electricity = no studying = a playground full of friends awaits!

The kids of today may still fight for these rides. But something was magical back then.

#18. We never had the patience to sit in front of a screen of for so long.

Even though it was entertaining to watch TV and play on the computer, it was almost impossible to sit in front of them 24×7, right?

#19. And this is probably how today’s kids will grow up and be like:

Who is to blame? The kids? Or the exposure? Or their parents? Or the society? Being tech savvy is one thing, but is childhood supposed to be the way it is being for our kids? Kids of today need to go out in the sun, get injured, get lost once in a while. They need to make friends, in the actual world. Socialise. Be mischievous. Shatter some windows! And then get scolded for that. Because sitting in front of screens all day long shouldn’t really be the only memories of their childhood!
