[UK GOV] Foreign office news

Day 1,548, 14:48 Published in United Kingdom North Macedonia by Foreign Office

These are tumultuous times in the eWorld. ONE is under extreme pressure from TERRA and EDEN on all fronts, with a number of its members and supporters wiped, including the UK. The UK government, with the assistance and encouragement of our allies, is doing everything it can to ensure we will return to the map in time for the next congress elections, however we must be patient and not make any knee jerk moves to distance ourselves from our steadfast allies purely because they are currently going through a difficult period. We recommend that you save up your energy bars and bazookas in case we need a big push in the future. For more on the situation with ONE see the article written by our Minister of Defence.

One of the aims of the Ministry this month will be to improve communication ingame to educate and inform citizens, especially newer players about our current situation and the events both past and present that continue to shape our current relationships with both our friends and our enemies. In a series of articles we will give updates about current events in the World that have an impact on the UK and our allies and will also feature profiles of some of the countries that have had the greatest influence on the UK's diplomacy over the past few years.

Current Events

Cracks begin to appear in EDEN
Arguably the main reason for TEDEN's recent successes has been the defection of Turkey from ONE to EDEN, which has tipped the damage scales in TEDEN's favour. However Bulgaria, one of EDEN's leading members has an extremely strained relationship with Turkey, due to both ingame tensions and real life issues. The ingame issues mostly appear to stem from Bulgaria's departure from Phoenix, of which the UK was a member in late 2010. Whilst Bulgaria was still in the alliance, although close to their departure due to their refusal to accept the entry of Macedonia into the alliance for real life reasons, Turkey fought against Bulgaria in resistance wars to remove them from their holdings in Iran. The countries relationship has remained bitter ever since, but with Turkey's move to EDEN these differences have become much more significant. In a move that much of his country did not support a previous Bulgarian president accepted Turkey as a trial member of EDEN, however since then Bulgaria has vetoed any attempts to make them full members. This has led to tensions with many EDEN and TERRA members who see Turkey's additional damage as responsible for their recent victories over ONE. This has understandably led to fervent speculation that Bulgaria may choose to join ONE at some point in the future. The Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Stoich gave a press conference earlier yesterday evening on IRC where he denied that Bulgaria were planning to leave EDEN and said that the Bulgarian CP had put in an official request for the alliance to hold a vote on Turkey's membership once and for all. Their CP stated that if their veto on the matter was not taken into consideration they would leave EDEN. You can find full logs of the press conference Q&A here.

There have also been disputes between Finland and EDEN, over the recent Finnish presidential election. Petsku, a senior figure in EDEN, believed a candidate that had a lot of support in the Finnish election was a Polish PTOer. Without informing the Finnish government or congress as a whole, he arranged for citizenship to be given to some of his EDEN friends so they could vote for the opposition candidate, which obviously stemmed considerable fears in Finland that EDEN were interfering in their internal affairs. You can read Petsku's attempt to explain himself here.

ONE assaults Romania and Ukraine to free Hungary
Over the past few days ONE has been engaged in a major operation to free Hungary, which was recently wiped by a combination of Ukraine and Romania. 3 days ago Serbia declared Romania as their natural enemy, following Poland's declaration on Ukraine a few days earlier. The objectives of Poland's NE were two fold, to free Hungary from Ukraine by diverting EDEN damage away from battles for Hungary's freedom and also to get revenge on their former ally Turkey, whose defection from ONE is one of the key causes of the alliances recent defeats. The situation on the Ukrainian front appears to have reached stalemate, with Ukraine easily securing Volhynia, but without a massive prospects of moving very deep into Poland. Serbia has captured two Hungarian regions from Romania and is now going on the offensive deep into Romania, capturing Oltenia and Muntenia and fighting hard for Maramures as it stands. However Croatia do still hold two Hungarian regions and are batting away any attempts to free them through Resistance Wars.

Other news in brief
• Hungary’s president PoriTomi resigned due to real life reasons. He has been replaced by Bosko Balaban.
• France has experienced a sizeable babyboom from the Jeux video site, France’s most popular gaming website. Their population has nearly doubled, however it is unclear how many of these babies will survive.
• After helping to free Sweden, Poland have continued to fight against Russia however neither side has managed to make any massive inroads into each other’s original regions, although Poland are once again attempting to win the battle of Kaliningrad, which if they capture would end the war between Poland and Russia as they would no longer border each other.

The Ministry is still on the lookout for envoys so if you would like the chance to meet new people, learn more about other eNations and help improve the UK's relations with nations around the world, feel free to send a PM to Invalidation or Kravenn.
