ORIGINAL ARTICLE

Very soon it looks like we’ll find ourselves in the slightly odd position of having to choose, democratically, an evil overlord elected dictator.

Unless you’ve been eLiving under an eRock, you’ll have noticed the wide-ranging national debate over constitutional dictators. To cut a long story short, two proposals were … er … proposed; one by Sir Humphrey Appleby and one by Mr Woldy. After some discussion, argument and a hint of baww, these proposals were smashed together into a compromise proposal (which you can read here should the urge take you).

A new Congress was formed today, and immediately the AppleWold plan was put before us for approval. At time of writing it looks extremely likely that the proposal will pass.

Yes yes yes. That’s all very nice, but why are you telling me this?

Simple. Assuming the proposal passes, we - as a party - need to decide who we would like to see as our next benevolent dictator.

Currently there are two main contenders who have been “officially” (if such a thing exists) nominated. Unsurprisingly, these are:

Sir Humphrey Appleby - proposed by BDPUSP
Mr Woldy - proposed by UKPP

Only party presidents can nominate dictatorship candidates. To date, TUP haven’t nominated or officially supported a candidate. More candidates may come forward (if they do, I’ll amend the article accordingly), but - for the time being at least - the decision before us is a simple one:

option 1: do we support an existing candidate (and if so, which one)?
option 2: do we nominate a new candidate of our own?
option 3: got a different idea? tell us!

As a member of TUP, your opinion on this is important. So let the debate commence. What do you think we should do?
