[Petition] Vote Buying is Bad
Major Lee Hung
Vote buying is, to sum it up, paying other people to give your article votes that you would otherwise not have gotten. It is typically done through a third party service which is used by several hundred people, and costs pretty large sums of currency.
Why is it Bad?
Often, in the eUK for example, vote buying will push an article straight to #1. For example, the current article which has had votes bought has over 700 votes; typically a very successful eUK article will have around 50-60 votes. This means that good quality articles are losing visibility to people who insist on ruining the media module simply because they lack the ability to create good articles.
People would argue that this is much like advertising - you merely pay for visibility on your article. Very few however realise just how much damage they cause their reputation by using this service. I for one will never vote/subscribe somebody I know uses these services.
What Can Be Done?
Articles which have clearly had votes bought should be marked and deleted as spam. It is usually obvious by the sudden 500 votes in 3 hours, and the fact that the number of votes are disproportionately higher. This will eventually discourage people from using these services and return the media module back to a fair, free and open place for us all.

It's bad.
Though it's really bad when people keep droning on about it.
Fair enough - but every party. Every President. And indeed every MU uses vote buying in a different form.
They trade on loyalty - A consequence of your membership to there group allow them to bombard you with things like: "Vote this up please". "Vote up our article for more publicity". Etc... Many people simply follow that instruction - especially if it is to do with the party leadership, President or MU officers who are giving the order.
Vote buying, while it can be a form of evil...
...can also help the smaller groups have there say and ensure that they are heard.
You wish to have a media module for all?
- Allow vote buying, tolerate it. Simply because sometimes for the little guy they need a boost.
- If something is needed for the National MU/Party/Pres - the loyalty votes should still put them in the top 5.
- If you are an aspiring writer? Write a good article then spam your feeds with it - try and trade on that loyalty too. I mean, why not? The masses never...
...really know something unless someone points it out to them.
Sorry for the WoT!

Vote buying is used by everyone in the form of loyalty. Other people just have less friends so buy some instead, which does not signal the destruction of this game. Q7 weapons did that.

I completely agree with what this is saying I am quite happy with having a small paper with 12 subscribers but some idiots insist on giving a ton of money to greedy vote sellers

Vote buying is bad, mmkay.
Madacaion said how it works.
Personally I think it is a race to the bottom
Erep is generally a cesspool where money trumps everything anyway (which I guess is maybe a plus since it is supposed to reflect the real world?....)
I'm still a believer that quality journalism will be rewarded, and I will hunt through the media to find it if I have to.
link me what you find Ros pl0x
Ergo Deus, y u no make a comment like that on Dragoons article which bought votes? : 3
V+S nice article
Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. "I can't afford these services, so my articles never get to number 1, so it's bad that other people do it"
I couldn't care less whether my articles reach #1; I mostly just write my thoughts in here which some people happen to enjoy.
Unlike vote buyers who choose to go for complete overkill and buy 700 votes in a country with maybe 300 active citizens.
It's just vote buying, it's not harming anyone. People who want it can have it.
Petition to stop people moaning about vote buying.
It's not going to stop whether we want it to or not so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
This article is as pointless as buying 500 votes.
It's still wrong Aces Man.
'It's still wrong Aces Man.' Yes it is but it's not going to stop.
