[New Era / British Army] How we are changing - Stage Two: the British Army MU

Day 2,145, 12:43 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Sven Goran Duran-Duran

First, a bit of history.

New Era was born out of the MU that became the British Army: not the other way round.

The MU that is today called the British Army was formerly known as the British Bulldogs and indeed, the John Bull MU before that. Nevertheless, this active fighting force has consistently been the 2nd, if not the 1st, biggest hitting MU for the eUK for a long time.

New Era was created by the Army and its founders as a way to bring long forelorn representation for its members to Congress and beyond.

The British Army and New Era have had a very close relationship ever since.

As the first of my series of articles in this term of PP highlighted, many of our friends and comrades in the British Army left for eIreland to escape the political scene in the eUK.

The loyality of those who remained has been (in some cases harshly) questioned by others who worry that loyalities may be split or minds unclear as to where the loyality of the British Army specifically and by association, New Era, lies.

The time has come to clarify the situation and explain some changes that will now occur that will, it is hoped, gain the confidence of the eUK public as a whole whilst also reinforcing the British Army and New Era as the real leaders of change and reform in the eUK.

The British Army MU

The British Army MU will end its formal association with New Era.

This change has been discussed across the New Era Council for a while with members past and present contributing to the debate and by consensus this has been agreed.

In practice this means that, for instance, New Era will not be allowed to campaign on the Army's feeds, order members to vote for someone etc. etc.

When recruiting, New Era will not be "forced" on members of the British Army and vice versa.

The British Army will welcome new members from all parties who want to get involved and will promote and supply them, without thought as to their political persuasion.

Be the Best

Many of us have friends that have gone to eIreland but whilst "proving" its loyality to the eUK should go without saying (the Army's record speaks for itself and the members who stayed clearly don't want to leave to eIreland) the British Army recognises that intercommunity relations would be helped by a gesture of goodwill.

In that regard, the British Army has decided to form an elite unit.

Regiment 1 of the British Army will now get extra and more regular supplies but soldiers will be made to make the following pledge:

I will serve the eUK faithfully as a member of the British Army and will be loyal to the eUK.

I will only fight for the eUK and its allies unless ordered not to by the serving MoD(s) and the serving Commander(s) of the British Army.

Loyalty to the eUK will always be put before loyalities of friendship or loyalties of party, past or present.

The new regiment will be called the the Parachute Regiment.

It will have a special Paras avatar (coming soon) and will have a private section on the eUK forums.

I invite any and all citizens of the eUK who would like to be a part of the Paras to send a pm to me or William Ross, Deputy Commander of the British Army.

New Era

New Era is agreeing to end its formal relationship with the British Army.

Most members will still stay in the Army and vice-versa but we will agree not to campaign or try and politicise the Army in any way.

Further, New Era is to consider an Application System for the next Congress elections.

Potential congressmen will be required to apply outside of the game (forums or gdoc) and sign a Code of Conduct indicating they agree to follow some basic guidelines that New Era will expect its congressmen to follow if they want to be picked as Congressmen again.

These guidelines will be simple and straightforward and will include a clause about citizenship applications and a clause about loyality to the eUK and may, for instance, also contain a clause about loyality to the party.

The details of the changes to New Era and congress applications are yet to be ironed out but (because these changes could be controversial) an all-member vote will be held before asking congressmen to go through the new application procedure.

These details will be ready in time for my next article.

Footnote - The CP elections

The New Era CP primary was a draw. As such I invite all New Era members to use their vote tomorrow whichever way they see fit - just use it 😉

Thanks for taking the time to read this,

Commander of the British Army and Party President of New Era.
