[jw] Time for a fresh start?

Day 2,362, 23:59 Published in United Kingdom France by Hell The Great

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, its clear to see the UK is facing tumultuous times ahead. Hovering at 40 members, we now have a party that offers sanctuary, and in the near future potentially a vehicle for growth, for foreign forces that seek to influence control over the UK.

To be clear, terms such as 'Take over' and 'PTO' have been politicised beyond all reconciliation of meaning. One man's 'take over' is another man's 'defence'. Hence the wording I chose above. There is no denial, even by the more articulate amongst them, that the Serbians are here to try to influence the choices we as a country made, and in the future change our allegiances.

Why we are where we are no longer matters. Who we aligned with, who decided and who disagrees is also, no longer a priority. Our only priority, is to ensure that in the near and long-term, it is players who will represent and act on behalf of British Citizens who are in positions of power. You do not need to be from the UK to be a British Citizen; this is eRepublik. Allegiance is a measure of character. Is a person going to further our population, or is a person furthering their own agendas?

Personally, speaking, there is a pretty easy way forward. Right now a party which is not TUP or New Era has no real reason to exist, has struggled to have a tangible effect on anything, and is beyond really ever hoping to do anything more than stay in the top 5 and continue struggling to have any tangible effect.

TUP will never change, neither will New Era. So the path forward, for players not interested in spending the majority of their time bickering, is to unite and force change to happen. That's why I'm proposing something pretty simple.

The parties of UKRP, PCP, WRP, UKPP and ESO should begin talks and discussions on merging into three distinct communities, based on the splitting up of members. How they are split, it doesn't really matter; by real life views, game views, area of interest in the game, name your variable and you'll find a way to do it.

Once organised, this will then lead to three bigger, hopefully more functional communities that can in the short term re-enforce the political power of players who have the UK's interests at heart. Our top 5 will not be half dead and half hell-bent on arguing with someone over something because of that one time when someone did that one thing. It will have at least in some parts, a purpose other than existing. These three new parties, freshly made and free from past arguments, can then begin to forge a new path, focused on helping the UK, helping new and old players enjoy and prosper in the game, and hopefully, changing the political dynamic of the future.

I'd say it's wishful thinking for the communities of ESO and UKPP to ever really hope to push back into the top 5 without damaging the defence against our potential Serbian overlords. It's also naive for WRP, PCP or UKRP to assume that people will just disband and join them en masse as things stand. WRP remains in the top 5 thanks to the majority of new members remaining from our recent ATO actions. PCP and UKRP float up and down in membership, but there is nothing happening. Where are the groups looking to change things, where is the search for progress? Time is spent engaging with New Era and TUP; it should be invested in trying to help the UK.

So the only remaining solution? Burn all the things. Let's make a fresh start with actually doing something at the centre of it. Let's do something bold for the good of the UK, and get back to what we should've been doing all along.
