[jw] The future of ESO - Updates

Day 2,292, 21:21 Published in United Kingdom France by Hell The Great

First and foremost, I apologise for the delay in the publishing of this article. As most of you know, I'm based in China, which means that sometimes it just isn't possible for me to get online. However, thankfully I'm here, and here is an update on what we hope to complete over the remainder of the term.

First and foremost, I want to address my proposed usage of the Wiki. Our pages are basically useless; not updated, and even then, it is an insight into our past. I'll be asking our spokesman Dave Trenga and vice party President iAdrastos to help me overhaul this.

Our wiki will become a useful addition to both our recruitment and retention activities; filled with the plethora of useful tips we have gained over the years, as well as our image library for members to use in their newspapers and such.

We'll also be using it to ensure that recurring ESO programs, such as Eat Some Omelette and Grow With Us will be easily accessible. Finally, we'll be offering a much more useful 'how ESO works' section, replacing the outdated, ignored, and largely irrelevant Constitution of the past. This will, simply be, a simple 'What you can expect from ESO' and 'What ESO can expect from you' declaration, allowing members to ensure that a Party President is doing what should be done, and also outlining what a Party President should be, at a bare minimum, doing during his tenure.

Secondly, I'll be asking our councillor, Robin Redcap to oversee a relaunched, yet still generous, Eat Some Omelette program, giving free food, and some weapons, to new eUK players. I will not put words or thoughts into Robin's mouth, as we will be discussing the logistics and details of this, but rest assured, we will be focusing on feeding the youth, with weapons reserved for rewarding some, and those who would be better suited to fighting with them. Expect some other competitions and activities from Robin too, but for now, we'll be returning to basics, to build a foundation upon which others can later build upon.

In conjunction with this, I'll be asking Lucy28, our Secretary General, to trial some feed and group-message based equivalents, in the form of a daily 'sign in'. The process will be explained in more detail (by either Lucy or myself) at a later stage, but the main thinking behind this is to return ESO to a more community spirited place, like the days of old.

Finally the whole HQ staff, and those who volunteered to help, will begin discussions centred around yet another (I do this every time I end up re-running for PP, so why not start it all over again?) Policy feature. That is, returning ESO once more, to a party which can offer something to non-members. Sure, we are working hard to gain members and recruit. Granted, we're trialling new and different ways to connect with the members we already have. But parties often interact with none members once a month: to elicit support for their candidate for President. Outside of this, does any party really offer anything? ESO used to once; we offered a military unit. After that, we offered policy. But now? I'm ashamed to say: we can offer or help none-members in exactly 0 ways. This policy will not be used as other parties have in the past; to extract concessions or demand change in return for supporting a candidate for President.

But rather, these will be our own personal policies; that which gives us as a group a path into the future; aims. As well as this, it will be our Congress platform; that which we will do in Congress, or in power, to make the UK a better place. New? No. Particularly exciting? No. Important? Undoubtedly. The makeup of the UK is quite simple; only a small majority of active players are a member of a top 6 party. A minority of our total players are a member. Its easy, indeed convenient to forget this.

As always, anyone who is interested, has the time or inclination to help, just drop me a line and I'll ensure you're included in the process. To my HQ, I apologise in advance for the amount of pestering and micro-managing I'm going to be doing. To ESO members, I apologise in advance for the amount of messages I'm going to be throwing your way.

To those not sure which party, come and help shape a new way. Cheers,
~jw
