Dear Plato,
I write this letter to you as a way to share my vision on improvements of our erepublik. I would argue that since the implementation of rising, you have heard our pleas regarding change, yet you did not understand the very essence hidden within all complaints.
Briefly, the main problems.
1. Pay to win does not work. Look at Star Wars Battlefront 2. People do not want to be beaten in-game by out-of-game events. It removes the skill aspect, which is the main force that determines game satisfaction.
2. No cap on lvl/dmg. Look at succesful MMO's. All of them have a cap on lvl/dmg, until a new expansion is released. New players must be able to participate in end-game play. Currently, there is an insurmountable gap that discourages progression.
3. Action dependency. There is PvE, and there is PvP. Erepublik has always been a fully PvP environment. Good for satisfaction, but not outweighing the bad that you fully depend on players for (nearly) all active events. This also decreases you ability to prevent boredom born from mega alliances.
Point 1 and 2 were no large factors in the original version of erepublik, and a main driving force for its success back then - after just eight days, the New World reached 1000 citizens, and after one month there are over 7500 citizens and 10,000 daily visits to the eRepublik world, over 600 companies and 111 political parties in 43 different countries. We were capped at FM rank, and both strength and xp had diminished returns. Noobs could get relatively close in damage after a while and make a real difference. The third point was never solved in erepublik, showing it is not a necessity for success, though I do feel it adds a lot of benefit.
So, respectfully, I offer my advice.
1. Reset every citizen to zero, but allow them some bonuses (vanity ones).
2. Set a max level. To be increased at every expansion (optional).
3. Limit gold/CC influence in PvP. Set a max amount of recoverable energy for PvP. This also increases the strategy aspect.
4. Develop a PvE environment. Let people co-op in events/raids against the environment. Allow any amount of gold spending. The guerilla fight mode seems useful as a base for this, as well as the battle module from rising. It is evident erepublik has the knowledge and talent to implement this.
5. Reward players with gear. Attainable through both PvP and PvE achievements. Make it tradeable. Create augmentations that can be created through companies.
6. Create a permanently challenging world. The system of resources in regions is great. Implement all nations in the world, but require 500 (or more) citizens for it to be 'active' - otherwise make it a computer-controlled nation with a base level of power with which it defends its regions. Create PvE threats that countries randomly have to deal with, and get rewarded/punished for.
7. Limit the amount of MPP's to 8. Add more complex PvP war mechanisms, similar to V1.
In short, there are many succesful video game companies around. The most succesful formula is to steal the succesful components from others. Why has erepublik not done so? Giving players the joy from skilful and equal victories creates and keeps a giant playersbase, which will increase revenue, rather than prolong a dwindling one.

Hey we can't reset the game to zero now! I've been playing here from 9 and half years!
If you are loyal after all those years, you will stay loyal in the new world.
Also you would get loyalty skins and a '2008 veteran' banner. Sounds pretty cool to me!
Just remember erep labs was sold last year with an earnout agreement...
Yeah, it was one of the reasons that gave me the belief everything is still perfectly salvageable.
before making this assumption, have you checked the stillfront portfolio?
I hadn't. I don't see how this changes anything to my suggestions though. Iirc it's basically still being run the same way, just under a bigger umbrella now. They can improve their earnout. I don't see how it would mean Bonte will just drive this game into the ground.
Considering past decisions of the erep managament and that 13kk out of 20 are based on earnout, I suspect Bonte will try to squeeze us till the very end in 2019.
Considering stillfront acquisition rule: "If it's crappy I want it". I suspect they are not very fond of the R&D part of the industry.
I see no light at the end of the tunnel.
gold influence can be limited by limiting the number of hits one can do daily, or in battle, or in mini battle or in some other way. let people spend money, but limit pay-to-win influence on the game. fix the economy, remove production bonuses on tycoon pack...give people an option to earn money on monetary market...etcetc
also, map revision would be a nice thing. especially significant is number of regions a country has. i understand singapore is a city state, but wtf is going on with uruguay? usa has 50 regions, but it would probably be better to divide it in some other way. in a way its both strength and weakness at the same time.
It needs a more fundamental change than a revision of the things they implemented in the wrong way. We need to change the inability for new players to become important in the war module.

Yes, but it is only a temporary solution. In two years, new players are now too weak for tank battles >and
one of the pillars of erepublik is that it is rewarding those who are training and fighting regularly, the how the strength was accumulated was different back in time. i guess implementing some similar training system with perception may help with that. impact of strength and rank on damage output can be revised as well..
No reset needed. Just stop maverick pack changing divisions, then increase the amount of divisions and then base them on hit power, not something completely unrelated like experience points.
1. pay to win is working in almost all other games. it reduces schlep like blitzkrieg and power pack do. erepublik labs were sold for i think 5 million euro. Why would they end their only revenue stream?
2. this is debatable. new players can never match older accounts because of the time spend on growing that old accounts. take away that? and you take way the effort older accounts placed into their game.
lastly dont fix what is not broken. game is what it is.
1. You don't see pay to win in games that make actual money. Not browser shit, but the console hit games. And those still earn insane amounts through people exchanging RL money for vanity items.
2. Diminished returns were fair in v1. I did significant damage, but I could never hope to beat rupetot, romool or all-x for a BH. They had their prestige, and I had my worth. New players have no hope for either.
3. That's a negative thing to say. It's how the companies think that "my" company buys (as in, the one I work for).
sure vanity items that give you an edge hence pay to win. you spend money top buy the game right. so at that stage all users are paying customer and contribute to the revenue stream. but your comparing apples to pears im referring to other many times massive browser games.
2. yes thats why they buy older accounts or quit. whilst of you reset your losing your top players almost with a 100% certainty.
3. yes perhaps they can here and there change a thing but i am not rebuilding my account and neither would most. therefore its an implausible idea. you dont fix a carburetor by replacing the entire engine.
So instead of starting from zero at day 1 of this game, they go to another day to start from zero at day 'something higher than 1'?
Limit wellness to 100 PER DAY per citizen, rest everyone to zero and reintroduce a version of Rising.
Rising battle system was kind of kaka. I recall having a 3.5 hour fight for a single round when I invaded Belgium.
Simply put a time limit on battles whoever is leading wins....

If I could still donate to this article, I would. It is still better than anything we have seen in years.
I think you lose the remaining players if you in essence reset. In most cases they are only here because of what they have built thru the years. There is no guarantee that you would get anymore either, there are more choices to play these days.
I have seen very junior players take part in the so called Meta Game at a high level. A new player has that avenue available to them.

PS: there’s no pay to win for new players here, when someone played like ten years and you only played one year you simple can’t pay sooo much to win anything
