[eCanada Ambassador to eSpain] A Canada-Spain NAP ✓

Day 2,031, 23:16 Published in Romania Canada by New Faustian Man
This is just an opinion piece and isn’t meant to represent the views of the eCanadian government.

eSpain have issued an NAP proposal to Canada [viewable here], this consists of the following:

NAP PROPOSAL

1 - eSpain will have Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. eCanada will have the other nine regions.

2 - Neither eSpain nor eCanada will fight on the resistance side in any RW on those four regions. eCanada will ask its allies not to fight for the resistance side.

3 - All the regions will be back through RWs, no direct attacks. eSpain will coordinate the liberation of this regions through RWs.

4 - This NAP is subject to monthly renewals by the CPs of both countries.

As NAPs go, this one has real merit. Spain ARE NOT extorting payment for ceding regions back to Canada, they ARE NOT demanding multiple roads to their capital, plus the monthly renewal allows each new Canadian government to review and potentially reject this treaty at any point in the future, a move which is written into and secured by the proposal. So its not as if Canada is tying itself down if they accept this offer.

The perception that this is a “surrender” to Spain is entirely wrong. Firstly, since when has signing an NAP been considered a "surrender"? Spain signed one with the eUS when it was wiped/near-wiped by BrUSA and no one thought Spain were "surrendering" at the time. Secondly, that NAP set Spain and BrUSA on the road to improved relations, and its this relationship which is a contributing factor -- probably the main factor -- to eSpain securing 10/10 bonuses. Alliances are polarising institutions in this game, NAPs are one means to evolve past that form of tribalism and develop mutually beneficial relations with perceived "enemies". BrUSA and Spain did it after been locked in combat for months, and all sides profited from it. No doubt Spain and Canada can do the same.

NAPs based on material resources are the future of this game, they're overtaking the bonds alliances are supposed to provide. The days of alliances based on empty slogans like "loyalty", "brotherhood" etc. are behind us, and can't be used to justify opposition to this NAP (an NAP that countries like France or Germany would grab with both hands) simply because its with a perennial enemy like Spain.

It should also be noted that Spain are pro-CoT, and have excellent relations with some CoT countries. So signing this NAP shouldn't harm Canada's chances with that alliance, indeed quite the reverse.

*

In conclusion:

If Canada say NO to this NAP eSpain has the damage/allies to keep Canada wiped permanently. As long as the treaty between the eUS and eSpain holds (and it will!) these are the facts Canada must work with.

If Canada say YES to this NAP they regain nine regions, get their full indigenous resources back, secure their congress for the foreseeable future, get one of the strongest nations off their back and also get an NAP with this nation.

This proposal should be viewed as Spain trying to normalise relations with Canada, something that a lot of old enemies are doing across the globe.
