[DoEE] Dictatorship: the details

Day 2,709, 02:53 Published in Australia Canada by Ilene Dover

Well folks, the people of Australia have voted. As President Rusty has outlined in his updates here, here and here we are headed to a new dicatorship. This time, the elected Country President will become Dictator for the month.

Like a good leader (but not like a dictator...), Rusty has taken the idea and told everyone about it, then left the details to minions to sort out. This article is to publish the details of the arrangement, to the extent that I know and/or has been decided. This should, I hope, let us find any problems or issues with the scheme. I apologise for the lack of graphics and eye candy, but this is Sirius Bizness (for a game, anyway). I am doing my best to keep a straight face while writing, but it is hard when phrases along the lines of "self-dicking" keep popping into my head...

The whole process of a "constitutional dictatorship" is driven by the game mechanics. Ownership of the dictator's chair resides with the commander of the military unit that kicks off the coup. As our current President, Rusty will become the next dictator if things go to plan. He is responsible for launching the coup from his preferred military unit's command chair (which may or may not be phallic shaped).

This military unit will be set to Invite Only. After any Presidential election that sees a new President elected the outgoing President is to invite the election winner and his or her nominated deputy to the unit. It will not be possible to appoint the new President as commander of the military unit (and therefore as dictator) until 2 days have elapsed. In short, expect a time lag between the President election results and appointment of any new Dictator. In the event of a national crisis (think the Hitman airstrike of last month, Bulgaria the month before, Indonesia invading in the years prior etc.) then the outgoing President must cooperate with the demands of the Senate and the incoming President. Failure to do so in a reasonable timeframe will result in public mocking and an evisceration of their ego in prose.

On successful transfer of the military unit command chair, the outgoing President and their deputy must resign from the unit.

There are several practical considerations here:

1. If you want to be President, you must leave your current military unit. The dictatorship chair is not transferrable without the messy process we are going through right now.
2. It would be best to nominate your deputy during the election campaign. The deputy must be appointed as the 2IC of the dictator's military unit. This is a precaution in the event that the President/Dictator is banned, or dies, or goes inactive, or has a brain explosion and leaves to fight in a foreign coup/revolution (don't laugh, this happened to the Russians already).
3. If you are the President/Dictator it is your patriotic duty to stay in the dictatorship military unit until an orderly transfer of power can occur.
4. The new Dictator and their deputy will have to complete the minimum 10 kills to graduate from recruitment stage. To ensure humility, I think the people of eAustralia should get to vote (informally) on which battle this should be.

I trust the above meets with your approval. Much of it is common sense, but it bears writing down and being anally retentive about. If you have any questions or reservations, please speak now or forever hold your peace. There are only a few days remaining to iron the details out.

A great deal of trust is being placed in the President's hands. In the event they are uncooperative with the Senate, deranged, a proven cheater, or basically do anything that would have previously resulted in an impeachment the people of Australia resolve the right to revolt and have a do-over. Good luck to whoever winds up as the Queen of Australia - I don't envy you the job.

I will publish another article, closer to the time the coup is launched, with a How-To guide in case anyone needs the help.
