Weekly Power Rankings #18; Revenge and Rematches

Day 1,776, 00:00 Published in Canada Canada by Shoi12

Welcome to another edition of the eRepublik Power Rankings! Here are the rules; the efforts of the top five countries this week will be recognized, and the five worst performances will be mocked, no exceptions! Countries are recognized for many things, including successful defending, securing strong alliances, and, of course, conquering rivals. Without further ado, let's begin!

WINNERS

1 (5) Colombia

Despite all of the adversity, Colombia stands strong. Yes, being forced into an extra front with Mexico isn't particularly great. But having a front with Mexico as opposed to a front with Portugal is a trade any nation would make. Besides kicking Spain off of the continent, Colombia has managed to hold strong against Venezuelan troops, even capturing a couple of provinces. The main story, of course, is Colombia's ability to not only survive, but hold the line against an extremely powerful nation and even 'win' against them. No Spaniards, no problem!

Week rating: 9.5/10

2 (H2) Italy

A random war that came out of nowhere, Italy had enough of Slovenian occupation. Surprising the Slovenian armies with a very strong RW to get their feet back into northern Italy was the first step, but Italians needed to hold onto their foothold, and they did, against all odds. The Croatia invasion of Slovenia had moved the Slovenian capital to the historically Italian province of Emilia-Romagna, and the Italians took full advantage of the poor capital placement, rushing all their attacks and RWs into northern Italy, cutting off Slovenia from its capital and leaving them with only 3 resources. Italy needs only to take a few more lands to complete the first half of its reconstruction.

Week rating: 9.1/10

3 (NR) Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia's return to the map and to EDEN culminated into a battle against Montenegro, and it wasn't even close. Without much external support for either squad, this was as close to a mano e mano battle as you'll see, and this wasn't even close. Bosnia's been thought of as a weak and frail nation, but they showed their strength this time, absolutely crushing their Montenegrin enemies with unbelievable ease and adding three more provinces to its merry nation. With Serbia busy battling its way through Asia, there's no reason to expect the Bosnians to be in any threat any time soon.

Week rating: 8.4/10

4 (B4) Sweden

Sweden is getting to be a regular here on the Weekly Power Rankings, but in opposing sides of the spectrum every week. This week was the week for winning, and even as the seconds pass, their move towards the other end seems guaranteed. But for the good news, Sweden has once again evicted invaders from the Scandinavian peninsula (this is my house dawg) and invaded Lithuania, capturing the interior half of the nation. Losing the connecting province of Lithuania Minor stings, but Lithuania won't be at full strength for a while, and if Sweden can get some support, they'll be sure to recapture the link.

Week rating: 8.1/10

5 (NR) Serbia

At long last, the fated Serbian-Chinese rematch will begin! Let's look at what had to happen to make the historic battle possible, shall we? Before, China had to go through South America and through Spain just to reach Serbia. This time, Serbia went through Turkey and Iran, passing Pakistan along the way, to reach China. After a hard-fought peace agreement with Iran, the Serbs borrowed Pakistan's lone province to gain a border with the Chinese, setting up the epic battle. Just reaching the Chinese is an astounding accomplishment.

Week rating: 7.5/10

Honorable Mentions: Estonia, Romania

LOSERS

Just barely good enough: FYROM, Indonesia

B5 (NR) Montenegro

C'mon Montenegro! Couldn't you at least look halfway decent? The Montenegrins were surprised by a Bosnian attack, and had no way of protecting themselves from a complete wipe. Not even three days after the first shots were fired, the gold nation vanished from the map. In an utterly humiliating defeat, Montenegro was often seen losing 88-0 to a scrappy but mediocre Bosnian army without much EDEN support. As Serbia is busy in Asia and Macedonian and Slovenian allies already busy in their own affairs, Montenegro won't see the light of day for awhile.

Week rating: 3.5/10

B4 (2) Finland

So much for a long wipe of Estonia. Finland got ambushed by Estonian liberators who captured the northwest, and in an utter state of confusion mixed up NEs, allowing Latvia to get a first stab at the Finns. And the disaster continued from then on, as Estonia cut off supply lines to the southern base that Finland had set up which was systematically attacked by the Latvians. Finland is now defending its own land and staving off its own wipe. Russia's attack on Latvia may help a bit, but it'll be an uphill battle against the Estonians to suppress them once more.

Week rating: 3.1/10

B3 (NR) Slovenia

Checking the damage stats, Slovenia should be annihilating a much smaller Italian army. But sprinkle in a few extra units fighting against a snoozing Slovenian army, mix in some confusion and mass hysteria, and voila! A disaster for the Slovenians! Slovenia is completely split in two, with their large landmass apart from their capital. Unlike other failures this week, though, Slovenia is putting up a very good fight. Despite the hearty effort, the defeats still came, which perhaps stung even more. It's by no means a Kobayashi Maru, but Slovenia really needs a break or two.

Week rating: 2.5/10

B2 (NR) Lithuania

Lithuania wasn't completely wiped, that's true. But getting so close to breaking Sweden, then getting pushed all the way back into their own half and getting kicked in the teeth is devastating. Lithuania found themselves almost fully invaded by the Swedish army. The only bright spot for the Lithuanians that gives them hope is that they've run a successful RW in Lithuania Minor, cutting off Swedish access to their newly occupied regions. Lithuania could get out of this jam alive, but it'll need a lot of work to get back on its feet after such a disastrous botched invasion.

Week rating: 1.3/10

B1 (B3) Belarus

NOOOO NOT BELARUS!!!!! Huh, deja vu... Poor Belarus was defeated by the combined Lithuanian and Hungarian forces, despite very strong efforts in each battle. They had regained initiative against the Lithuanians, but ultimately couldn't avoid the monstrous Hungarians swallowing up provinces like crazy. And unfortunately, Belarus is now wiped once again by oppressive forces. Luckily, help appears to be on the way as Russia is now taking out Latvia in the hopes of eliminating one of the threats, and Sweden is doing a decent job managing Lithuania. But it'll take a lot of teamwork to get Belarus free this second time.
