Vote your countries wisely

Day 2,334, 21:41 Published in Romania Romania by Nicolae Crefelean

As you know, eRepublik will soon gain 4 new countries. We get to vote for two, Plato will chose two more.

I originally voted for Cuba because their Latin blood and their political regime makes them great to have in the game. But then I looked at the population number, the internet users and the fact that they are quite affected by governmental censorship. So I used Wikipedia to get more data and I came up with this table:

Sources of information:
* List of countries by population
* List of countries by number of Internet users
* Internet censorship by country

To be really impartial, we all know this game needs more active players. This means we actually need as many new people as possible and hopefully we can retain a good part of them. The data above clearly shows which four countries are the best candidates. Too bad they all have some kind of issues with censorship but the good thing is none of these four countries have the kind of censorship that would prevent its people to join a game such as eRepublik.

The next important thing is the new citizens' compatibility with the game. Is the game localized in their languages? Do they understand English (or another supported language) well enough so they can easily jump in? Well, I had to check each country's Wikipedia page to find this out, but I only looked for top 10.

Compatible languages currently supported by eRepublik
1. Nigeria: English
2. Vietnam: English, French
3. Morocco: Arab, French, English
4. Kazakhstan: Russian, English (young people)
5. Algeria: Arabic, French
6. Syria: Arabic
7. Ecuador: Spanish
8. Azerbaijan: Turkish, English, Russian
9. Angola: Portuguese
10. Cuba: Spanish

The first four countries should normally be the best candidates for the next additions. Their censorship levels are not worrying and their large number of internet users would increase the chances of real competition in the game. Recycling the current user base by moving citizens from one country simply by overtaking them would not make a better game for everyone but for merely a few.

Of course, I deleted my first vote and voted for a country that makes much more sense in the game. So for the better of the game, please vote wisely. We don't need more take overs and clones, but real players.

P.S. There might be other relevant things to consider, but I felt these are the most important.
