The fall of a Leviathan I : The forging of a rebel (I)

Day 2,570, 10:56 Published in Israel Israel by Yaron Merteyn
I present you the start of a short (very short and simple) story that will be divided in chapters, "The fall of Leviathan" and will be published from time to time here in Hatikvah. I hope you all like it.

Year 2034, somewhere in Europe.
After a terrible series of terrorist acts and a subsequent world war between, as people said, two ideologies: Individualism and collectivism, the world lies in the ruins of what used to be a good place for living, the progress obtained after countless generations of people spilled their blood is destroyed.
Traditional governments fell, but new "modern" ones rose in order to control the people so the old level of progress is achieved again, using the brutal force if needed.
Here is where our story begins, with a World War veteran called Villeneuve that was forced to drop his weapon and work as an slave for the new government of the People's Republic of Eglesiya, the PRE.

An angry faced guard wearing a grey coat and a black hat is patrolling between tens of workers picking the quarry, he has the PRE badge in his left hand, a black ring surrounded by red, the flag of the PRE, symbol that inspires fear in the heart of every man and woman. As the guard goes back to the barracks for taking a drink two workers start to talk:

"Are you fine Kahn?" - Said a man on his 40s, strong and black haired, to an old man that was near while picking a big rock in front of him.

"Oppressed, starving, unhealthy and working 16 hours per day in this damned quarry... that's now our reality Ville, we are just a bunch of slaves under the rule of the people we used to admire my friend Villeneuve" - Said the old man while picking with his rusted pickaxe.

"Shut up Kahn with that crap... do I have to tell you again what the hell will happen to you if you keep saying things like that?" - Replied Villeneuve.

"Do you think I care if the guards shoot me? They would make me a favour... look at this... the world is fucked up thanks to ourselves, we didn't want to do anything, we saw how Europe was falling in the hands of the people that now rules over all of us! And the worst thing is that we have been just some months here and I'm already about to die!" - Replied Kahn.

"And what the hell do you want me to do!? Every day you are saying the same stupid things, we can't do anything now, people was, is and will be stupid always, that's why you should care about what you have now, you are lucky you are alive; stop thinking about the old world"
- Said Villeneuve.

Kahn assented with his head and kept picking the rock in front of him while thinking about the old times, when he had a house, a car... a family.
Villeneuve stared at him with an angry face and thought to himself:
"Soon it will start, when nobody expects it, the guards will lose their head and the faith we lost 15 years ago will be restored... I hope you can live until that my dear friend"...
