The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Miyagiyoda
Yesterday, eBrazil invaded eSouth Africa for the umpteenth time.
We have been asked to support this violation since:
a) eBrazil promises to liberate us from PTO
b) eBrazil promises to keep certain resource regions rent free for 3-months
c) eBrazil implies that it promises to actually eventually pay rent
There are several problems with this. The first being the a Brazilian promise is less substantial than dew on hot summer's day. If you can name a single promise that they have ever kept towards South Africa; you are remembering wrong. We words honourable and Brazilian do not occupy the same though space. Let's break down the substance of these promissory notes.
Liberators
Conquest does not equal political freedom. eHungary dominates eSouth Africa because they outnumber us at least 3:1. We won't get into the reasons why, but the hard reality is that even if the country is conquered and open citizenship achieved; who is going to fly to our aid? Our allies are embroiled in wars far removed from out troubles, and Phoenix's "political machine" is in full tilt with an explosion of "new" players. Unless we are to adopt the ethics of Phoenix - which our current predicament proves we don't - we don't stand a snowball's chance in hell.
Tenants
Brazil believes that Gauteng and other regions are theirs by right of conquest. We have been down this road before and they a simply squatters with no intention of paying for anything. The situation is made worse when you wake up to the fact that the resources will be used to fund their war machine to continue supporting Phoenix and their dubious methods. This is a lose-lose situation for us. More so, since we are not in political control, and are a tiny community whittled down to nothing and kept there by bare-faced abuse, South Africa is not ours to give. Giving away Gauteng or Western Cape is a death sentence to us. It kills all hope of our population growing. It is agreeing to genocide.
"If you give me a burger today I'll gladly pay you Tuesday."
Based upon Brazil's past performance, a promise to pay is as good as a Standard Bank cheque issued in Lesotho. The only sane choice is for them to pay upfront. They deserve no credit because they are a bad credit risk. In fact, nothing less than a lay-by is acceptable or cash in advance. The lack of trust is not us eBrazil, its you.
While I have no love for the current bunch who are a blight on the name of decent eHungarians; at they don't lie to our faces. That's something with more substance than the hot air that passes for negotiations in eBrazil.
Amandla, Awethu.

A lot of fair points. But actually if you look back far enough we had an alliance with Brazil (back when we were neutral rather than eden aligned). Also, we have enough resources that missing some won't actually lower our production bonus.
And sadly what it realistically comes down to is that we can fight a nation like Brazil in a fair resistance war if we need to. We really can't fight a group who are willing to use multies to illegally PTO a country. (It doesn't matter that they 'aren't' using multies now, it's how the take over occured).
So actually I'm looking forward to fighting a mostly honourable enemy like Brazil. Reminds me of the hey days of the eSA resistance. Much better than dealing with the Hungarians (which is sad, because after sharing a country with a lot of them for a while I reckon there are some good people in their group. Sad they have to align themselves with the cheaters who took our country.)
Voted hard. Miyagiyoda is right!
Especially consider that even if someone registers from IRL SA, why would she/he stay in a country that has a large chunk of it torn out (wishfull thinking) or under full Brazilian occupation (most probable)?
The self styled leaders of the ressistance are mostly abroad working for, paying taxes to a foreign country. Participating in foreign wars, etc.
Sad situation.
@Ramet: I missed the part where admins removed the possibility to RW regions. When did that happen?
but if they we working in eSA teh taxes would go Huns PTOers, mine are better in Romanians Gov hands.
you will fail as usual, brazil will not help you. they will never trust you, cos you would sell your mother for 5 Golds (congress seat) : ))
I share your concerns. Only the future will judge, either way.
You of course can RW. But if the resistance has too few members to outvote the small Hun community here, then how would you RW a region against the largest enation?
The Brazilz won't give it up free. Or will PTO it immediately.
Thanks. I was trying to say that you have just said for the last two days.
Especially for "It kills all hope of our population growing."
New players that would register to play for eSA in in nearest month (much longer for some traded off regions) will start with eBrazilian citizenship.
If today someone check eSA residents profiles, he will see a bunch of dead players with last shouts like "I'am Brazillian? WTF?" It is a result of previous eBrazil occupation, I suppose.
I see some people whose claims are totally false, and only want to cause trouble, and others who are trying to argue with a good intention.
1. If Brazils betrays us, we can RW... With EDEN's help, just as we did many times before. We don't want to use multis, that's why we couldn't beat the small (last votes show it's not that small, unless mmm... interesting...) hungarian population. Even with EDEN's help. It's impossible.
2. German Lindholm, the regions Brazil is going to keep if they do not betray us are very scarcely populated, and hardly anybody live there. We haven't had anybody legit being born there since a loooooooooooong time ago. Most of the people born there are multies. As for the rest of the country, not that much population is being born, we can afford giving it up for a few days. It's better than seeing populations from 3 months ago saying "hungarian??? WTF?".
3. Rains, your trolling attempts are so utterly ridiculous, that you should be full of shame. Learn of Griffmadar (and he still has way to go).
4. It's true we can't trust Brazil. But we can't trust the hungarians either. Both of them are our enemies. If we do nothing, we won't get rid of them. So what do you want to do? Wait 5 years until admins realise they are doing it wrong, and shut the game? We must do something. This is something. And it can work.
Besides, we have other means of doing damage to Brazil if they betray.
They wouldn't want their friendship with USA to be destroyed, they would end without friends and against the world.
5. I like turtles.
^ I like turtles more..
Let's not forget that Bros countries are now getting MPPs with Brazil. This is an economic decision that many large countries will be making. I just read Battlegazi's article discussing the pointlessness of bringing in new small countries all of which will be attacked for their resources. The point of the new RMs is to encourage war, which is profitable for the game's owners. War is going to be free and plentiful in eRep.
Though I'd prefer to have eSA back the way it was before the Hun bots stole our country, our size makes that impossible. So do we act as concubines to a group that has cheated to gain power? Do we roll over and allow arrogant, dishonest players to take our money and treat us as an irritating afterthought?
Or do we take our chances on the battlefield, holding our heads high? Do we work with the new Western Hemisphere Alliance in hopes that our traditional allies, the eUS and eCanada, will hold eBrazil to its word?
The Huns are killing eSA. We're unable to battle their numbers and have been languishing as they boasted about their control and oppression. Personally, I'm sick of it. If we must look at a Brazilian flag over some of our regions in order to start rebuilding our infrastructure, I'm willing.
Dycey, I would prefer Union Jack flying over eSA 😉
I do not speak neither Portuguese nor Indonesian.
And imagine - the British Empire on which the sun never sets...
The previous comment souldn't be read in anyway as "Hail Penix".
I had known about the current allegiance of UK when I wrote this. But also I had known about Canadian proposals to merge 😉
